Pimp Yo’ Pan and more bling-bling In a bid to embolden Clermont’s quirky and creative nature, the Pimp Yo’ Pan gold and coal art workshops and competition are on again. Open to all Isaac region residents, the aim is to challenge art perceptions by creatively decorating a gold pan with art. The Pimp Yo’ Pan competition, sponsored by Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), gets its name from the urban phrase, to make something cool or better by decorating.

Mayor Anne Baker said the Pimp Yo’ Pan competition was an innovative approach to art education and workshops to be conducted in schools across the Clermont region. “We also encourage community groups to take up the challenge of creating new, cool street art,” Mayor Baker said.

More local art opportunities A wide range of creative arts and cultural projects will unfold around the region as part of the Isaac Regional Council (IRC) and The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) 2016 grants program, round two.
“RADF supports arts, cultural and heritage projects throughout Queensland, ranging from local festivals and celebrations, to training, education and employment outcomes for Queensland artists,” she said.
The latest round will see 12 projects benefit from more than $23,000.
Round one for RADF grants 2016 -17 opens on August 1 and closes on August 31.
Mayor Anne Baker said the grants would fund a range of community classes and workshops from blues guitar, mixed media, pottery and woodcarving to a skateboard art party, a ‘Pimp Yo Pan’ art workshop and floating lanterns for a 1916 flood commemoration ceremony.

“A further $30,000 has been allocated for the St Lawrence heritage trail; NAIDOC week celebrations; the engagement of Indigenous artist, Lloyd Hornsby, to deliver library programs and workshops to schools, including some small schools in isolated areas whose students often miss out on visiting art programs,” Mayor Baker said. “Popular textile artist, Jane Milburn, of Textile Beat will run ‘Slow Clothing in a Fast World’ workshops in our libraries; and artist, Walter Stahl, will deliver his ‘Legend of Croqland’ program for adults and students at Moranbah Library in conjunction with the Animal FanFair exhibition to be held at the Coalface Art Gallery.” Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Queensland Government is providing $2.08 million in 2015-16 for the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a state and local government partnership with 59 local councils across Queensland. “The $2.08 million will leverage approximately $1.8 million from local governments, and means an anticipated total of $3.9 million will be available for arts projects across the state,” the Premier said. “Each year around 500,000 people are involved in RADF projects as practitioners, participants or audience members, helping to ensure that Queenslanders can engage with arts in their local community.

Isaac makes State funding shortlist Isaac Regional Council’s Moranbah Water Reservoir and Associated Works Project is in the running for the next round of the $375 million Building our Regions (BOR) program. Isaac Mayor Anne Baker said Council welcomed Minister for State Development and Natural Resources and Mines Minister Dr Anthony Lynham’s shortlisting of the $9.2 million project to address critical risks to Moranbah’s water supply. “It’s pleasing to see the State Government recognising the vital issue of water supply in regional resource communities. “Comprising a new potable water reservoir and pump works at Moranbah, this project will increase the reservoir capacity from one
to two days storage as part of an overall strategy to address water security. “If successful, this project will strengthen the resilience of one of Australia’s most important resources areas. “It addresses the most significant risk to the continuity of coal mining and related economic activities – water supply,” she said.
“Our application seeks $4.6 million in BOR funding to match funds already identified by Council, providing a total budget of $9.2 million for the project. “Isaac Regional Council will continue to strongly advocate for State and Federal funding for Isaac communities.” For more information visit www.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/ buildingourregions.

There are more than books at the library! When you think of a library, do you think of a building with books lining shelves? Libraries are still ‘traditional’ but have more than books lining shelves. Isaac Libraries offer a range of e-resources through the libraries link on the council website at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/e-resources. If you are an avid reader, Books and Authors will help you search for new and old authors.
Babies and children love sharing stories and it’s never too early to talk, read and tell stories with your child. The Clermont Library runs three children’s sessions a week and all programs are aimed at helping young children develop their literacy, numeracy and language skills from a young age, through singing nursery rhymes, performing action songs and reading books. New arrivals Make some popcorn and settle in for a movie night as the Clermont Library has received many new DVDS.
Good Reading is an online, monthly magazine, helping general readers, library staff and students find out exactly what they like to read.

Isaac Libraries also offer free public computer and internet access to everyone, not just library members. History books for sale The Clermont Library has some history books relating to the Isaac Region, for sale. If you have an interest in local history, these books would be great to add to your book collection or make a nice gift for someone who likes reading books on ‘Australiana’. The books for sale are: ‘Below These Mountains’ by Lyall Ford ($15), ‘Behold Nebo: A History of Nebo Shire’ by George A. Mayes ($20) and ‘A Photographic Record of Colonial Queensland’ by Lyall Ford ($20). Both books by Lyall Ford relate to his great grandfather pioneer photographer and miner, John Henry Mills, who lived in Mount Britton. Bag a book bargain If you love books and a bargain, come and check out the Clermont Library Book Sale. Most of the books and items on sale are preloved library books in good condition and paperbacks, magazines and CDs are priced at $2, hardbacks and DVDs cost $3 or buy a bag of books for $12. Stock is constantly being added to the sale shelves. Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families? The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age. Clermont Work Camp Advisory Committee Call for Members Isaac Regional Council is calling for expressions of interest from persons interested in serving as members of the Community Advisory Committee for the Clermont Work Camp – Queensland Corrective Services. The Committee membership is honorary and members participate on a voluntary basis. The Community Advisory Committee’s role is to: • Provide information and advice with respect to the local community views and concerns. • Promote effective and supportive relationships between communities and corrective service facilities, and thus facilitate the reintegration of offenders to the community. •
• Provide links to the community, which will assist in developing opportunities for prisoners in their rehabilitation and reparations. • Identify, assess and priorities community service projects. Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants. Monday and Saturdays, Wednesday 30 minutes flexibility focus. Rip Group Rx A high intensity strength conditioning class using barbell and light weights. 45-1 hour in duration. Bring towel and water bottle! $16.50 casual/free for members. Rip Express is a 45min major muscle group workout. THUMP boxing for fitness 1 hour free for members. Beginners L1 run Wednesday nights 6pm. A pair of inners to be worn under gloves can be purchased for $5.00 before class. L2 and L3 bookings only! Boxing equipment provided for both classes. $16.50 per class, free for gym members. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. There are many benefits of Yoga, this class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation. CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.
XT - THUMP boxing It’s a nice way to start your day. This class incorporates 10 mins of circuit cardio, 10 mins strength training and 20 mins thump boxing. A fully functional total body workout that burns, burns, burns.

80’s Night This will be a quick 30 mins aerobic workout inspired by the ‘Greats’ of the 80’s. It will incorporate acerbic movement, 80’s Step Aerobics and some of the old time chain dances. It’s fitness and fun in one!

Metafit This is a 30 mins bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire! Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 mins whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of Barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Pin shots were won by Ross Faint, Reg Olzard and Bill Moller. The men will complete their 54 hole Championship event this Sunday. Hit off 10am.
