Shade upgrade for Clermont gets rolling Clermont skate park youth will be cooler in the shade with a brand new hardcover shade structure. Installaion of the 25 x 30 metre wide upgrade will start next week Monday January 23.

Cr Lyn Jones with Isabellah Reveillon and Rylie Murdoch - just two of the many youth set to benefit from Clermont’s new skate park shade cover

Mayor Anne Baker said it is another positive addition under Isaac Regional Council’s SHARP program; Strengthening Healthy and Attractive Regional Places.

“I know the community has been looking forward to this upgrade, which was promised in the 2016-17 ‘Connecting our Communities’ Budget.

“I’m pleased to announce we are installing a hard roof shade structure rather than shade sails,” she said.

“It will be fantastic to see our local youth enjoying the shaded skate park for many years to come.”

“The new fit for purpose design will deliver vital longterm infrastructure to Clermont.”

Council has installed new hard roof shade structures for parks in Dysart, Moranbah, Middlemount and Nebo.

Local Councillor Lyn Jones said the shade cover will provide much-needed sun protection.

The new fit for purpose design will provide youth with ample protection from the elements to enjoy skate parks year round.

“With soaring temperatures this summer, the new structure will offer a welcome reprieve from the heat,” she said. “Weather permitting, construction will take around four weeks and the ramps will be closed for public use during this time.

Crews overcome challenges to deliver crucial road project Isaac’s essential agricultural corridor has received much needs rehabilitation.

Diamonds in the dust: Council crews and the stabiliser at working on Lou Lou Park Road mixing the new PolyCom product into the pavement.

Council crews have completed a $1.5 million project on Lou Lou Park Road, north west of Clermont. Mayor Anne Baker said they went above and beyond to solve the pavement issues the road has had historically. “After 18 months of research and trials, they found the Australianmade PolyCom stabilising aid. “They discovered it could withstand several varieties of unfavourable ground conditions. “Approximately 43km of the Lou Lou Park Road underwent works in the later part of last year. “Works included reinstating formation shape, drainage, gravel capping and pavement stabilisation.

“The rehabilitation will ensure a safer commute for the cattle road trains and agricultural traffic that use it each year.

“They tackled a difficult project and persisted to track down a new product that could ensure the road’s longevity.

“Council crews worked extremely hard to deliver the project on time and under budget.

“We’ve already had positive feedback about the high standard from farming families who use Lou Lou Park Road.”

“The team’s positive work ethic and determination, produced excellent results in what was before considered unachievable. “We are proud to deliver this project as promised in the 201617 ‘Connecting Our Communities’ Budget.” Cr Dale Appleton said he was impressed with the finished product. “I’d like to congratulate the road construction crew for their efforts.

The Lou Lou Park Road Rehabilitation Project was jointly funded through the Queensland Government Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) and Isaac Regional Council. For more details visit www.isaac.qld.gov.au or call Council’s 24/7 Customer Service Centre on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).

Mayor urges community to back Council’s call to beef up the bill The Mayor of the largest mining region in Queensland is urging workers and their families to back the call for a ‘stronger’ bill at regional hearing next month. Mayor Anne Baker said Isaac Regional Council is strongly advocating to beef up the Strong and Sustainable Resource Communities Bill 2016 (SSRCB). “There must be rules and regulations that prevent a company having the ability to discriminate against workers for where they live, and support the communities in which they operate,” she said. “Regional public hearings, being held in February, are an opportunity for anyone in our communities to have their say.” “This is our chance to demonstrate the need for effective legislation. “Our voice can help ensure regional communities benefit from local resource projects.” Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Hon Dr Anthony Lynham, introduced the SSRC Bill 2016 to parliament in November last year. “Council commends the Queensland Government for its commitment to regulating mining projects to ensure affected communities are stronger and more sustainable. “But the Bill in its current form can be improved to ensure benefit for local residents.” “Council’s submission, made in December 2016, provides practical and meaningful ways the Bill should be strengthened to get the job done.” “Council will continue to engage with the Queensland State Government to ensure that the Bill is fit for the job.”
