Council calls for creative Christmas displays Isaac Regional Council is calling for Christmas enthusiasts who wish to spread Christmas cheer to enter Isaac’s annual Christmas Lights’ Competition.
Acting Mayor Geoff Bethel said nominations are now open for this wonderful tradition. “It’s one of the best family experiences at Christmas, travelling the streets and seeing the twinkling lights.” “Residents can nominate their incredible festive displays in Nebo, Clermont, Middlemount, Moranbah, Dysart, Glenden and St Lawrence to Ilbilbie.”
“Each year we are amazed at the efforts our residents and businesses go to, to spread the joy of Christmas before Santa arrives on his sleigh,” he said. Community Groups and Isaac Regional Council representatives will judge entries as early as November 29. Are you playing renovation roulette? This NOvember Isaac Regional Council is calling on the community to Get to kNOw Asbestos. National Asbestos Awareness Month urges everyone, from weekend DIYers to experienced builders, to know the risks. Acting Mayor Cr Geoff Bethel said asbestos-related diseases will increase unless we take warning signs seriously. “Australia has one of the highest incidence rates of malignant mesothelioma in the world. One in three Australian homes contains asbestos in some form or another. “Home renovations are popular due to shows like The Block. “If you suspect you have asbestos in your home, contact Council and one of our Building Services Officers can lab test a sample for a cost recovery fee. “Don’t play Renovation Roulette, learn how to protect yourself and family.”

The GERG has eight members comprising two nominees of the Wolfang Water Basin Landholders Group, one nominee of Agforce Qld, one nominee of the Clermont District Landcare Association and four community members. In addition to these members, an independent chairperson, representatives from regulatory agencies and Clermont Open Cut representatives are included in its membership. contributed by The Sarge Well it was no Milan catwalk on Saturday at the races where I was a guest judge for the committee, but competition was pretty fierce in fashions of the day. I was cordially asked what qualified myself as a judge. I’m not really certain. But I have been judging, reading, assessing and communicating with people my whole entire career. I like to think I look deeper, however the character is not always revealed when stiffened up on the stage with that held smile for, oh, so long. Perhaps we should concentrate on the whole person not just the facade, but then that would take a background check and a million other things and the horses need their rest! Anyway the races were a hit and again a great crowd overall. A couple tried it on in the bar and they got turfed out for their troubles. That sort of continued through the night. Any signs of trouble was jumped on by everybody, which is a very far cry from the days of old for Clermont. I love seeing people enjoying themselves but when people decide to upset everyone elses night, well that’s when they need to say goodnight. As the warmer weather heads in please drink responsibly and remember to drink water on your nights out as alcohol dehydrates you. Incidentally that is why you have a headache the next day. You are dehydrated which is easily cured by drinking water, not more GROG!

On the traffic front we are consistently seeing the same people offending around town. Young drivers remember to put your L, green P or red P plates up on your vehicle when you are driving it. If mum or dad or somebody else is driving it then they need to be taken down again. This will attract a fine if seen. More motorbikes have been reported in and around the streets of Clermont. Like I warned last week if parents want to front court or face huge fines so be it. If not, lock the motorbike away or don’t buy them in the first place. It is that simple. Anyway that’s all for now. Remember to be prepared for storm season and watch out for flying debris. On every storm video I have seen there is usually one trampoline or plastic table and chairs flying through the air. Tie these objects down or put them away if a storm is brewing. Take care. Sarge

Can you help? Isaac Libraries are planning to hold recycled art sessions during the December/January school holidays.
First Five Forever The First Five Forever program aims to give children from birth to five years old the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes.
Clermont Library staff are gathering recyclable items for these sessions but needs some help to ensure there enough resources available for children to turn ‘trash’ into art. We are seeking donations of magazines, plastic shopping bags (in all sizes and colours), large cereal boxes and bottle tops of all shapes and colours (please wash before donating).
Babies and children love sharing stories and it’s never too early to talk, read and tell stories with your child.
If you can help, please drop your donations off at the library. Christmas is coming Christmas is coming and if you’re planning a nontraditional Christmas menu, come and have a browse through the cookery section for inspiration on salads, seafood or barbecue dishes. Maybe you want to make your own Christmas cards – books on cardmaking will give you ideas. There are also plenty of books on craft to inspire you to make handmade gifts to put under the Christmas tree. Isaac Libraries are championing this project and have encouraged community members to visit their local Isaac Library to weave stars. We have a star weaving station set up for people to drop in anytime during opening hours to weave a star from ribbon. A huge thank you to one Clermont Library patron who purchased their own ribbon and made about 140 stars to contribute to the ‘One Million Stars’ project. Thank you also to those who made stars while attending the Clermont Beef Expo recently. It is planned that the stars will go on a regional tour and be displayed at the Isaac Libraries before they are sent to the Gold Coast to be included in a display at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Clermont Library runs three children’s sessions a week and all programs are aimed at helping young children develop their literacy, numeracy and language skills from a young age, through singing nursery rhymes, performing action songs and reading books. Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families? The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age. The Third Billy Sing Marksman Shoot, was held at the Clermont Rifle Range on the 1st and 2nd October 2016. Saturday morning saw a very cold start with 3.8deg temperature; warming up over the weekend to 36deg on Sunday afternoon. The competition was shot over 8 Ranges :::: 2 X 300m, 4 X 600m, 2 X 700m. Reading wind and mirage changes with only one wind flag - half way along each range, proved extremely challenging. Shooters travelled from Bundaberg and Mackay, and enjoyed a very competitive event along with wonderful meals, and friendship.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.
Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45mins whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of Barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

It will incorporate acerbic movement, 80’s Step Aerobics and some of the old time chain dances. It’s fitness and fun in one! Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!
