Don’t let this summer end in tragedy As the weather heats up Isaac Regional Council is urging pool owners to keep their children safe. Acting Mayor Cr Geoff Bethel said Council inspectors will be cracking down on non-compliant pool fencing this swim season. “Since the launch of Queensland’s pool safety laws in 2009, inspectors have been lenient issuing warnings to pool owners.
“One of our licensed pool safety inspectors can check your pool for a cost-recovery fee. “If your pool is compliant, the inspector will issue you with a pool safety certificate.”
“That grace period is now over and inspectors will be issuing on-the spot fines for non-compliance.
All new swimming pools need building development approval and must comply with the pool safety laws. All residential pools and spas must also be registered with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). For information on how to assess your pool’s compliance visit www.qbcc.qld.gov.au.

Extraordinary honours for Isaac SES

Four members of the Isaac Regional SES Unit were honoured at a recent awards presentation in Rockhampton, Sunday October 16. Held during National SES Week, the SES Central Region Awards paid timely tribute to ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things’.
“I’m thrilled to see the Clermont SES Group awarded Central Region Group of the Year 2016, it’s very well deserved.” Isaac Regional SES Unit award recipients:

contributed by The Sarge Sorry the article hasn’t gone in of late but a few things have been taking up my time. The story on the crime front is still much the same with not a lot going on with the exception of some assaults which have been cleared up and people getting put before the court. Just a reminder court date is coming up on December 5 and all that are required to appear, do not forget or a warrant gets issued for your arrest. Just to mention the Rockhampton Stock Squad have a male person they have put before the court on a string of charges to do with cattle theft, transporting cattle without permits, waybills and many other offences. There is a fair bit on that day so listen out for the police prosecutor when they call your name if you are required. Traffic offences are on the rise. Some parents are wishing they had listened as they are now in real strife allowing their children to ride motorcycles around the streets and roads of the township. Remember if your child rides a motorbike it is your responsibility as you have allowed them to ride that motorbike or drive that car underage. If any parent tries the old ‘not my fault I didn’t know’, then think again, you will go before the Magistrate for what your child does as you have permitted them to ride, drive an unregistered car and so on. This means hundreds of dollars in fines. Your child is still your child until 17 years of age.
You will see some real sad faces on court day. Many townsfolk are getting sick of the noise, dust and so on especially in the top end of town. We are carefully monitoring Hetherington Street towards the water tower where we have heard they hang out. If your child is involved beware as there is a suggestion drugs have been shared in this group. So if anyone gets caught they all share the responsibility. On the station front please remember cash or cheque only. We cannot take card and I have tried to have this introduced but it won’t be coming anytime soon. Nothing else really to talk about. The races are on this weekend and hopefully everyone will behave themselves, if not well I’ll make sure they are dealt with. A reminder fines have increased again not only in amount but also in range of what persons can get the fines for. Try not to be one to sample the list. Until next time, The Sarge.

The CWA would like to thank everyone who came along and supported our Cent Sale last Friday. We were very pleased with the day. Congratulations to all of the prize winners. The money raised from the raffle will go towards a memorial to Mrs Dorrie Appleton, a long time member and supporter of CWA, at the new Monash Lodge Building. The Appleton family kindly donated some of the Cent Sale prizes which we were most grateful for. We have had a busy year catering for cattle sales, bull sales and Beef Expo as well as our cent sales and International Dinner. We were honoured to receive a Group Achievement award at the Australia Day presentations. This year, with financial help from the Qld Government, we ran a very successful Country Kitchens programme
to educate people to eat and cook more healthy. A big thank you to our facilitator, Mrs Jenny Wilby, who put so much time and effort into this programme. It would not have been the success it was without her. Catherine Kelly ran a successful Millinery workshop and thanks to Melissa Bridgeman who organised a candle making workshop. Hopefully we will run more workshops next year. Our final meeting for 2016 will be held on December 9, following our Christmas luncheon. We would like to thank everyone who supported this branch this year. We will go into recess following our December meeting until our first meeting in February 2017. New members are always welcome. ‘One Million Stars’ challenge
First Five Forever
The challenge has been set for Isaac communities to make 10,000 by March 2017. The 10,000 stars will be the Isaac region’s contribution to the ‘One Million Stars to End Violence’ star weaving project.
The First Five Forever program aims to give children from birth to five years old the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes.
‘One Millions Stars to End Violence’ is a love and peace filled community project started by Brisbane artist Maryann Talia Pau and supported by the Queensland Government. Isaac Libraries are championing this project and have encouraged community members to visit their local Isaac Library to weave stars. We have a star weaving station set up for people to drop in anytime during opening hours to weave a star from ribbon. It is planned that the stars will go on a regional tour and be displayed at the Isaac Libraries before they are sent to the Gold Coast to be included in a display at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Harry Potter collection goes e-audio The entire series of Harry Potter books is now available as e-audio books through BorrowBox. BorrowBox is an e-resource of e-books and e-audio books available to Isaac Libraries members. To borrow e-books and e-audio books through BorrowBox, download the BorrowBox Library App onto a smartphone, tablet or iPad. E-audio books are great way to entertain the family on road trips. Isaac Libraries are planning to hold recycled art sessions during the December/January school holidays. Clermont Library staff are gathering recyclable items for these sessions but needs some help to ensure there enough resources available for children to turn ‘trash’ into art. The library is seeking donations of magazines, plastic shopping bags (in all sizes and colours), large cereal boxes and bottle tops of all shapes and colours (please wash before donating). If you can help, please drop your donations off at the library.
Babies and children love sharing stories and it’s never too early to talk, read and tell stories with your child. The Clermont Library runs three children’s sessions a week and all programs are aimed at helping young children develop their literacy, numeracy and language skills from a young age, through singing nursery rhymes, performing action songs and reading books. Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families? The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age. The Isaac State Emergency Service (SES) is part of a national organisation of ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things’.

Each year they help their communities in times of emergency and disaster, protecting the safety of our people.

The Isaac SES is always in need of volunteers. All SES volunteers are trained and equipped to help their communities with the primary purpose of helping our most vulnerable community members. Isaac SES operate across depots in Moranbah, Nebo, Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount, Glenden, St Lawrence, Carmila and Greenhill, and welcomes volunteers aged 16 years and over.
What We Do Isaac SES volunteers empower members of the community to help themselves and others in times of emergency and disaster, so they can focus on helping the most vulnerable. SES members work as part of a skilled team and have approved functions based on local hazards and skill sets. As an SES volunteer you may not be activated on a regular basis, however your assistance will be critical when needed.
Becoming ‘Extraordinary’ No matter who you are or what you do, there’s an SES task to suit everyone. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds - officer workers, miners, farmers, students, tradies and retirees. In addition to helping your community in times of need you’ll become part of a like-minded yet diverse group of people. You’ll form lasting friendships, and develop real life skills and knowledge that can be carried through to the workforce and will stay with you forever. Many Isaac employers support volunteers in their workforce, meaning if you’re activated while at work they will support your SES commitments.
No matter who you are, or what you do, the SES needs you. Kerbside Recycling

Stay Loose Recycling goes into the bin loose – never in a plastic bag, and keep other soft plastic out too* #.

Keep It Clean-ish Recycling does not need to be spotless – just scrape of solid food and give it a quick rinse.
These rules apply to almost everyone but of course some people have to bend ‘em!

Follow these Six Golden Rules to make sure you’re doing the right thing.
Easy Does It Paper, cardboard, glass jars and bottles, metal cans and aerosols, cartons and rigid plastics are easy to recycle and accepted in almost all kerbside collections.
Drop ‘Em Off Kerbside systems cannot separate items like mobiles, computers, batteries and printer cartridges – find local drop off services*.

Into the Garbage Crockery, window and drinkware glass, polystyrene, plastic bags, nappies and food are the big baddies in the recycling – put them in the garbage*.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.
This will be a quick 30mins aerobic workout inspired by the ‘Greats’ of the 80’s. It will incorporate acerbic movement, 80’s Step Aerobics and some of the old time chain dances. It’s fitness and fun in one! Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!
