Clermont Buffalo Show organiser and performer Judy Ann Dalrymple puts on a show and raises funds for the 2015 Great Endeavour Rally participants.
Country bash helps 2015 Qld Great Endeavour Rally meet targets The 168 participants and support staff of Queensland’s Great Endeavour Rally were treated to true-blue country hospitality when they pulled up in Middlemount and Clermont last week. Mayor Anne Baker said local events like Clermont’s Buffalo Show helped meet fundraising targets. “The rally brings colourful characters to our communities and everyone got into the spirit of it,” she said. “Locals helped raise vital funds for disability support by entering Rally Teams and hosting community events.” In Clermont, Rally Events Production Coordinator Paul Purcell said “We were delighted to see so many local residents coming out to share the excitement of the Buffalo Show and mingle with Great Endeavour Rally entrants.” Organised by Clermont volunteer Judy Anne Dalrymple, all admission costs to the Buffalo Show were donated to the Endeavour Foundation raising $660 for disability support. The Middlemount Junior Rugby League Club put on a night of fun with a DJ, which saw the participants up dancing and handing out hats and lollies to excited local children.
“It was also pleasing to see so many children in attendance and enjoying the show and looking at all the rally cars,” said Paul Purcell. The Middlemount Junior Rugby League Club cooked the 72 team’s dinner and breakfast and sent them onward with a packed lunch. President of the Middlemount Junior Rugby League Club, Scott Lonergan extended his thanks to all volunteers and the club committee for supporting the Rally. Isaac Regional Council was proud to sponsor the Clermont Buffalo Show event and to support the 2015 Great Endeavour Rally as it toured through their region. This year’s 3,000 kilometre trek started in Redcliffe and crossed the finish line in Rockhampton on July 25. Fundraising targets from the Rally will directly benefit 300 people with a disability through greater choice, control, independence and inclusion.

Health Matters contributed by Jackie Martin Clermont MPHS Health Promotions Officer DonateLife Week is the national awareness week to promote organ and tissue donation in Australia. In 2015, DonateLife Week will be held from Sunday August 2 to Sunday August 9. DonateLife Week provides a timely reminder to all Australians of the need to discuss their donation decision with loved ones, and to ask and know their donation decisions. It’s a week dedicated to having the chat that saves lives. Family discussion and knowledge of donation decisions is vital. The majority of families say that having discussed and knowing the donation decision of their loved one made it much easier to support donation proceeding. Rarely, does a family decline donation if they knew the deceased’s wishes. Donation facts and statistics: •
One organ and tissue donor can transform the lives of 10 or more people.
•
Australia is a world leader for successful transplant outcomes.
•
Around 1,500 people are on Australian organ transplant waiting lists at any one time.
•
The Australian Government funds dedicated doctors and nurses in 72 hospitals to work specifically on organ and tissue donation.
•
In 2014, 1,117 Australians received an organ transplant as a result of the generosity of 378 organ donors whose families agreed to donation at the time of their loved one’s death.
•
49% of Australians do not know or are not sure of the donation decision of their loved ones.

In Australia the family will always be asked to confirm the donation decision of the deceased before donation can proceed. The quality of care for a potential donor at the end of his or her life, and the wishes of their family, is always the foremost consideration of those involved, and is never compromised by the potential for organ and tissue donation. Decided about becoming an organ and tissue donor? Everyone has their own reasons for deciding whether to become an organ and tissue donor. It is important that the people close to you understand those reasons. Your family need to know your donation decision because they will be asked to give consent. Families that know each other’s donation decisions are more likely to uphold them. Families that do not know the decision of the deceased are much less likely to agree to donation. You may think you are too old or unhealthy to be a donor, or that your religion doesn’t support organ and tissue donation. These are common myths and misconceptions. Discover the facts about organ and tissue donation. This will help you make an informed decision about whether to become an organ and tissue donor. You can register your donation decision online at the Australian Organ Donor Register (www.donorregister.gov.au), call 1800 777 203 or complete a form at any Department of Human Services service centre. You still need to discuss your decision with your family.

Gold and Coal Festival contributed by Danny McKay
Excitement is building for our 2015 Festival with most of our previous year’s activities including our wacky compare, gold nugget wheel, jumping castle and face painting and plenty of quality stall holders.
We have been fortunate again with sponsorship from Isaac Regional Council and Glencore. Most of our funding will come through ticket sales in the jewellery raffle, so please support our ticket sellers.
Friday night’s entertainment will include items from all the schools in the district and local artists. Saturday will kick off with the Poets Breakfast hosted by John Lloyd and stall holders will be trading.
This year we also have a Mine Lab GPX5000 worth (over $6000) to raffle.
We have committed to supply three hundred gold pans for the Paint Your Pan art competition hosted by Clermont Artslink, which is a great initiate to both promote the event and display our local artists. These are starting to appear in shop windows and around town and will be on display at the Festival. The Paint Your Pan Art workshop will run on Saturday to assist with painting a pan and completed pans will be displayed and then judged at the event.
Once again we are inviting local stall holders to bring their wares to the Festival. Sites for locals are free. We currently have over 40 stalls booked for the event. The Committee will be looking for helpers at the Festival to sell gold wheel tickets around the crowd and maybe raffle tickets at the entry. Please turn up to the Committee tent and offer to help if you can spare some time for both Friday night and Saturday.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Workout Of the Day (WOD) This is a board based program, working TO the principles of H.I.I.T where you can come in and complete the workout in your own time. What is H.I.I.T? High-intensity interval training is a training technique, which commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by active recovery periods. This form of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolizing fat at the same time.
Open Gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. Lets Lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minute whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for every fitness level. Mad GRIT This is a 30min program incorporating core, strength and cardio based exercise, ideal for total fitness development.
