MAYOR ENCOURAGES ISAAC REGION FARMERS TO HAVE THEIR SAY ON VEGETATION MANAGEMENT LAWS Mayor Anne Baker says it’s not too late for Isaac farmers, landowners and rural and regional community members to have their say about proposed changes to vegetation management laws. Even though written submissions to the State Development, Natural Resources and Agricultural Industries Development Committee has closed, regional hearings are still being heard and State Government decision makers are accessible right up until the law is finalised in Parliament. Mayor Baker said Isaac Regional Council understands that this is an important issue for the agricultural sector. “We encourage affected landowners in our region to have their say now before it is too late,” she said. “The last regional hearing will be in Cairns on April 13 as it’s the only one left still taking registrations – act now.

COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW DEPUTY MAYOR Isaac Regional Council has a new deputy mayor with Cr Kelly Vea Vea being appointed to the community’s second highest civic post. “I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for this opportunity. In a time where tuning into politics can be like watching a reality show gone bad, I genuinely appreciate working with elected members who are open, supportive and just get on with business,” Cr Vea Vea said. “I’m very much looking forward to tackling the challenges this role presents and representing the Council and the community in a higher capacity as deputy mayor. “I’m also looking forward to meeting more people across the region as I assist the Mayor. Meeting everyday people doing incredible things, in places you wouldn’t think of. It’s what I love most about Isaac.” Mayor Anne Baker congratulated Cr Vea Vea on her appointment as her new deputy. “Cr Vea Vea has been a strong advocate for her division and the wider Isaac region since being elected to Council in 2012,” she said. “She is passionate about campaigning for a better deal for our communities, and making sure they benefit from the massive industries they host. Cr Baker said Council had previously determined the role of deputy mayor would be periodically rotated among a number of the eight divisional councillors over the 2016-2020 term. “The today’s change reflects that decision and our commitment to work together as a council team,” she said.

ISAAC WELCOMES NEWEST AUSSIES
New citizens: Chantal Gow and LIam Mollatt with Mayor Anne Baker Two residents pledged their loyalty to the land down under during an intimate citizenship ceremony at Moranbah last week.Mayor Anne Baker said welcoming Isaac’s newest citizens was an honour. “Often the journey to citizenship is a long one, and I congratulate Chantal Gow and Liam Mollatt on their perseverance and commitment,” Cr Baker said.
“Mrs Gow, born in South Africa has journeyed the road towards citizenship for eleven years and Mr Mollatt from Zimbabwe for seven. “I wish them the very best to as they begin a new and exciting chapter as Australian citizens”.
CR LYN’S COLUMN As I am writing this I realise we are now into April and I will be writing about things I did last month. Where the heck did it go to? First off a little bit more about the Queen’s Baton Relay and the way our town gathered to show appreciation and support. We had a lovely afternoon at the park with great company, good food, fabulous weather and really, what more could we ask for. I attended the Cent Sale at the Senior Citizens last month and as usual did not win any prizes but had a great morning just the same. Bit of a catch up about our beautiful boardwalk around the lagoon. Because it was storm damaged we have to wait for insurance assessors to come here and access the damage before we can begin fixing it. As Clermont was not the only town that received damage we have to wait our turn as there was a lot of storm incidents throughout the entire region. We all have to be just a little bit patient. Fancy being able to say that the Show is on next month. Hopefully everyone that normally put entries in will have their arts and crafts well on the way. We have to remember that this year it is particularly special
as the show celebrates 150 years. What an achievement. We have all noticed the extra trucks on the road coming from BA and this will very soon be coming to an end. During this time I drove backwards and forwards to Moranbah many, many times and in all that time I never once had to cause to be critical of their driving or overall behaviour. So well done to all of them and thank you for your thoughtfulness to other road users. We took Axel (the pet – I was going to say dog but I am fairly well convinced that he isn’t one) out to my sister and brother-in-laws for a drive over Easter and he thought it was just great. Plenty of space to run around, cats to chase, birds to chase. Mind you they all ran or flew faster than him. He wouldn’t have known what to do with them if he had caught them but the fun is I guess in the chase. That’s it for this fortnight. Until next time..... Lyn

Come along and create a piece of Mola art, which is like applique but using paper or express your creativity through the Surrealism and Cubism art forms. A STEM session, during which children can build with Legos or program Ozobots or Osmos, will be held on Wednesday, April 11. All sessions run from 10am to 11am and bookings are essential.
OPEN UP THE STORY BOX LIBRARY The Story Box Library is a new e-resource offered by the Isaac Libraries through the Council’s website. The Story Box Library is full of favourite stories for children read by Australia’s best storytellers. Children can read a picture book on line while listening to the author. You can browse by storyteller or author/illustrator and watch short films to meet the author behind many of the books in the Story Box Library. Library patrons can have free at-home access to the Story Box Library through the Public Library/Tertiary link on the Story Box Library website.
SPOTLIGHT ON AUTHOR Alexander McCall Smith worked as a professor of Medical Law in universities in the United Kingdom and overseas before becoming a full-time writer. He has written and contributed to more than 100 books, including fiction, specialist university texts and children’s books. GUT AND BUTT BLAST: Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. OPEN GYM: This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. LETS LIFT: This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.
METAPWR: MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. CIRCUIT TRAINING: This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.
