CR JONES COLUMN Yep, two weeks has passed already. I bet if you were doing something you really didn’t enjoy doing, time would not go this fast. Friday, 8 March saw the RSL finish a long awaited project to recognise 51 veterans that up and until now were in our cemetery as unmarked graves. Thanks to the persistence and the dedication of some of our local RSL members these unmarked graves are no longer unrecognised as they have plaques etched with their names and details so as they never be forgotten. This is a good time to remind everyone that Anzac Day is not far away and your presence at either of the commemorative venues would be appreciated. Saturday, 9 March saw Karina Murphy receive our Inspiring Woman in Isaac Award for Clermont at the Commercial Hotel. Venue was lovely as was the morning tea that Marie supplied. Congratulations to our winner and also to our other nominees. This is where I thank those people that turned up to offer their support, but to thank them also for phoning around at the last minute to get a few more people to come along. In the end we did have a reasonable attendance. The next few days saw me out at the truck depot doing my best to keep our business compliant. I am now sure that the more paperwork you have to do the more it just ties you up in knots and then you have to get someone else to explain the last lot of paperwork to you. It must be keeping a lot of people in jobs I think. Then we saw rain. Tell you what I had just about forgot what the smell of rain is like. There is nothing quite like it is there? Just makes you feel on top of the world. All I can hope for is that most of our area did get some.

Axel just had a ball running in and out of the puddles. Here is a photo of him doing what he does best. That is “just hanging around” or standing around. On my way out to the shed last Saturday I saw a heap of kids playing cricket down at the lagoon. How lovely did that look with the kids in white and the field so green, the mums, dads and others all looking on. Just beats the heck out of seeing kids playing video games on their computers, iPads and phones.

Gosh showing my age now aren’t I. I can remember when my mum and dad used to say “now in my day” and we would roll our eyes at them. Montcler had a green- themed morning tea to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

I have never seen so much green (not from age) food in all my life. Everything that you could think of that is very nice to eat was green. My fingers were green for two days after. Not just from eating green food but using green colouring in the cooking that I did as well. All of the residents were dressed in green and Jules had plenty of activities for everyone to do. Travelled to Moranbah on Tuesday and Wednesday for more meetings. Getting to know the road from Clermont to Moranbah fairly well now. Just about know every bump that is there. Last Friday saw Isaac Council meet with Central Highlands Council in Emerald for a day of talks with the Local Government Association of Queensland. Many thanks to the Central Highlands Council for their hospitality on the day. Our Ordinary Meeting of Council, or as I like to call it our Suit and Tie meeting, this month was held in Middlemount. We stayed the night over there as it gave the community the opportunity to see all Councillors and ask as many questions as they liked. Must say having these meetings in different towns certainly gives you a varied look at their amenities, their parks and of course most importantly, their people. That’s about it for this fortnight so until next time ....... Lyn. Don’t forget my phone number is 0429 831 469 and my email address is lynette.jones@isaac.qld.gov.au. Please use these to contact me at any time for any issues that you may want to discuss.
