PURE PEOPLE POWER ENERGISES QUEEN’S BATON RELAY IN ISAAC The residents of Isaac region helped to energise the Queen’s Baton Relay during it’s visit to Nebo, Coppabella, Moranbah and Clermont.
“On this journey, I saw young and old working together to carry the baton. People like centenarian Bill Bruce, who at 101 years of age, was the oldest batonbearer in the relay,” she said.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said she couldn’t have been prouder to welcome the Queen’s Baton to four communities on its journey to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
“The Baton represents so much more than a housing containing a message from the Queen. It symbolises the dream we share with our fellow Australians and reminds us that like our region, this great country is built on pure people power.
“Our communities celebrated with overwhelming support, cheering on our 44 batonbearers from the roadside and in local parks,” Mayor Baker said. In a salute to the region’s resources sector which helps to energise the world, the Queen’s Baton was carried on part of its journey, from the Moranbah town centre to the iconic Red Bucket, by an underground coal loader provided by the BMA Broadmeadows Mine. Cr Baker said the Queen’s Baton Relay was illustrative of the pure people power which drives the Isaac region.

DEPUTY MAYOR TO PASS CIVIC BATON Isaac Region Councillor Geoff Bethel has announced he will not stand for the role of Deputy Mayor when Council undertakes its periodic review of the civic this week. The representative for Division 8, who has served as deputy mayor since the 2016 council election, says it is time to pass the baton and allow another councillor to step up and gain experience in the region’s second highest civic post. “After two years, it’s time that another councillor is afforded the same opportunity that I have been graciously granted by my colleagues to represent our community at a higher level,” Cr Bethel said. “I did not want this to be something that people heard about after the fact, so I am announcing ahead of time that I have decided not to seek or accept a nomination for the deputy mayor’s role. “It continues to be an honour and a privilege to serve our community in elected office and it is even more humbling to be selected by your peers for the greater civic responsibility of deputy mayor. “I did not actively seek to take on the role in 2016, but was encouraged to do so at the urging of my colleagues. I thank them, Council’s staff and the community for their continuing support over the past two years. “It is a testament to the maturity of our organisation that we believe in the shared empowerment of councillors to grow their abilities as civic leaders. The position offers an important opportunity to experience how the Mayor’s role operates and to support Cr Baker in her duties. “The deputy mayoralty provided me an opportunity to contribute at a higher level and, like my fellow councillors, I acknowledge the value in rotating this among my colleagues to build on our collective experience. “We have eight competent and capable councillors who all have the capacity to step-up into a role such as this.” Mayor Anne Baker paid tribute to Cr Bethel’s contribution to Council and the community in the role of deputy mayor.
“When we talk about the pure people power that energises our region, it is reflected in individuals such as Geoff Bethel who is a committed advocate for the communities of his division and the Isaac as a whole,” Cr Baker said. “Geoff has performed admirably as deputy mayor and I sincerely thank him for the assistance he has provided during his two-year tenure. The duties of Mayor are both rewarding and demanding, particularly in a region the size of Isaac. I am appreciative of being able to rely on Geoff for his support, counsel and help to shoulder that load.” Cr Baker said Council had previously determined the role of deputy mayor would be periodically rotated among a number of the eight divisional councillors over the 2016-2020 term. “The role of deputy mayor provides an important opportunity for the incumbent to undertake higher civic duties and further develop their skills as an elected leader in our community,” she said. “I’m proud to lead a unified Council team, committed to working collaboratively and in support of each other to deliver a powerful future for the Isaac region.”

PUBLIC NOTICES 1080 WILD DOG AND FERAL PIG BAITING PROGRAM 2018 Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that the baiting program for 2018 is scheduled as per the dates set out below. Please note: Baiting will only be conducted during the below periods.
Monday April 9 to Friday May 4 A second round of baiting will be conducted during the period below to provide landholders with an opportunity to undertake further control of wild dog and feral pig populations.
Currently this baiting period is scheduled for the dates below.

Australian crime writer, Peter Temple lost his battle with cancer on 8 March, 2018, aged 71. South-African born, Temple won several prestigious literally awards in Australia and internationally.

PROGRAM METAPWR: MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. CIRCUIT TRAINING: This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.
