ABORIGINAL ARTIST TO CONNECT WITH CLERMONT A 70-year-old who lives and breathes the vibrant culture of his ancestral art is set to share his story and life experiences through workshops in Clermont.

Bookings for the workshops are essential. Residents are encouraged to contact their local library for more information.

Lloyd Hornsby Gawura will visit the Isaac region during NAIDOC Week and the school holidays between July 9 and 20.

During the first week of the new school term, Lloyd will also be visiting Coppabella State School, Nebo State School, Mistake Creek School, Kilcummin State School, Valkyrie State School, Carmila State School and St Lawrence State School.

Mayor Anne Baker said the region is incredibly privileged to have Lloyd visiting Isaac Libraries and schools once again. “At the age of 70, Lloyd continues to pass down his experiences and stories through his exciting workshops. “He also works closely with disadvantaged youth, through art therapy programs in youth detention centres and prisons. “He uses his art to bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.” The Lloyd Hornsby free one-hour children’s art workshop will be at the Clermont Library, July 10 from 11am to 12noon. The free two-hour adult’s art workshop will be at the Clermont Library, July 10 from 6pm to 8pm.

The art workshops are made possible thanks to a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). In 2017-18 the Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, allocated $2.08 million towards Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) across 59 council statewide. RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
