TECHNOLOGICAL FEAST SERVED UP IN ISAAC COMMUNITY Interactive technology, robots and the skills of enthusiastic youth have been showcased at Isaac Libraries’ 2018 Tech Fest. Some of Isaac’s most creative thinkers and problem solvers demonstrated their coding skill and knowledge at the Dysart Civic Centre on Saturday, September 8 with around 160 people attending the annual robotics challenge. Five teams of children from Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount and Moranbah were welcomed to the challenge by Councillor Nick Wheeler who was pleased to support the initiative for a third year. “Each year, Tech Fest provides a great opportunity to showcase the technology programs and opportunities available to our community,” Cr Wheeler said. “It was pleasing to watch the teams thoroughly engaged in the challenge and to see such great support and encouragement from the mentors, families and members of the community who attended. “The teams all worked well together on the day and did a fantastic job with the Dysart Aussie Outback Robots

The team at Isaac Regional Council will be engaging the community through a region-wide survey and eight info share sessions on options on managing the protected species between September 24 and October 26.

LANGUAGE OF THE BUSH SET TO INSPIRE AND ENTERTAIN Yarns from the bush and beyond are set to feature as poets of all ages are called to come together for one of Nebo’s most anticipated annual events next month. Now in its 17th year, the Nebo Bush Poet’s Smoko being held at the Nebo Historical Museum on Sunday, October 7, is a significant community event dedicated to keeping the Australian tradition of bush poetry alive. Mayor Anne Baker said the Bush Poet’s Smoko offered storytellers and poets a unique opportunity to share their stories, tall tales and memories through the art of poetry. “Poetry is known for evoking meaning, exploring human experience, celebrating our heritage and highlighting the beauty, and sometimes hardships, of regional life,” said Mayor Baker. “What better place to spin a yarn or tell a good story than in the historic town of Nebo.

A group of men and women with pure intentions to power the region into the future and share 440 years between them were recognised last week. Isaac Regional Council paid tribute to its long standing and valued staff members during a ceremony at Clermont Showgrounds. A total of 39 people celebrated milestones for their service in local government. They varied from 5, 10, 15, 25, 30, 35 and 40 year milestones. CEO Gary Stevenson PSM said to celebrate pure people power, Council was honoured to pay tribute to our long standing, and valued staff members. “We hear a lot about Pure People Power in our organisation but what does this really mean?” Mr Stevenson said. “It’s our workers. Our organisation is made richer by its people. They’ve taken the opportunities to live, work and invest in our region which is helping to energise the world. Their tireless commitment, loyalty, and dedication is valued.” Carmila and St Lawrence Library Assistant Desley Jeffs clocked up 40 years of local government service and hitting the 30-year milestone were Clermont-based Overseer Infrastructure Bill Bruggemann and
Moranbah-based Senior Water and Wastewater Operator Julie-Ann Smith. Moranbah-based Waste Management Operator Richard Elly joined the 25-year club of local government service in Isaac. A total of 15 people celebrated five years at Isaac while 14 recognised 10 years. Another four people entered 15 years of service and two arrived at the 20-year milestone. Current storage in Theresa Creek Dam, which supplies the local water treatment plant, is presently more than 1 metre below spillway level, which is the trigger for Level 1 water restrictions. Ratepayers who make prompt payment on or before October 24 will receive a 10 per cent discount on general rates. SWIMMING SEASON IN FULL SWING AFTER BEHIND THE SCENE WORKS
Residents across Isaac will have a lane changing experience after Council took the plunge in the off-season to upgrade its aquatic facilities.
Mayor Baker said, “In Clermont, installation of a new shade structure over pool filters will improve the facility operations for residents.”
From starting blocks to pavement repair, Isaac Regional Council has completed works at pools in Clermont, Dysart, Nebo, Middlemount and Moranbah.
“Isaac’s pools are a safe place to cool off, relax, enjoy water play, swim laps, attend a fitness class, learn to swim, improve your swim stroke or join a swimming club,” Mayor Baker said.
Mayor Anne Baker said residents discover many reasons to visit pools in Isaac. “Our facilities offer fun, fitness and recreation,” Mayor Baker said. “Swimming skills, particularly among children are fundamental to every individual’s safety and overall motor skill development. In the past 12 months, Council has delivered a number of key facility improvement projects across the region.
As part of the 2018-19 Building a Stronger Isaac Budget, there has been a replacement of a chlorine tank at Glenden Pool, investigations and scoping is already underway to assess the aged Clermont, St Lawrence, Middlemount and Nebo pools. The Story Box Library is a new e-resource offered by the Isaac Libraries through the Council’s website. The Story Box Library is full of favourite stories for children read by Australia’s best storytellers. Children can read a picture book on line while listening to the author. You can browse by storyteller or author/illustrator and watch short films to meet the author behind many of the books in the Story Box Library. Library patrons can have free at-home access to the Story Box Library through the Public Library/ Tertiary link on the Story Box Library website. Patrons will need to create an account and log-in, using their library card number.
Story Time sessions will be held on Fridays from 9.30am to 10.30am, during the school holidays for children aged from 2 - 5 years.
SPRING INTO GARDENING The native garden around the Clermont Library has been in bloom, attracting various birds feasting on the nectar of the flowers. If the library’s garden has inspired you to create a garden of native plants, the library has several books for loan on native gardens and water wise gardening. There are also books about making garden art, growing vegetables or controlling garden pests and diseases.

SOCIAL TENNIS NIGHT A Social Tennis Night will be held on Saturday October 13 commencing at 5pm, following on from a very successful Social Day on Sunday September 16, when we had around 40 players. This night is open to anyone in the community who may like to come along and have a game or two and a night out. We intend to have a sausage sizzle on the night with BYO drinks if you wish to do so. FIGHT CLUB JIU JITSU Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art specialising in submission grappling. It is a non-striking sport that promotes fitness, self-confidence, respect, flexibility and teaches self defence strategies. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes have now started for Adults and Kids (8+). Both Gi and no-Gi classes are being offered. Follow the “Fight Club Jiu Jitsu Clermont “Facebook page for more information. Adults classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.30pm - 7.30pm Kids classes are Wednesday Ages 6 - 9 years 4pm to 4.45pm Ages 10+ 5pm to 5.45pm. TRX STRENGTH TRAINING every suspension training exercise builds functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once as is required in everyday life. This class is capped at 6 people. 45 minutes. TRX FLEX/STRETCH TRX flex incorporates strength through training, this class is capped at 6 people. 30-45 minutes. FUNCTIONAL FITNESS Functional fitness trains your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasize core stability. STRETCH CLASS Improve the flexibility of your joints and muscles with our stretch classes. Stretching is a vital component in any fitness regime, whether you’re a fitness newbie or a professional level athlete, it can boost the effectiveness of your workout routine. THUMP A 1 hour boxing for fitness class, boxing equipment is provided(gloved, focus pads, kickshields, etc). Inners must be work, these can be purchased from reception for $5 previous to beginning the session.
VIRTUAL RIP A high intensity strength conditioning class using barbell and light dumbbell weights. 45 minutes – 1 hour in duration. VIRTUAL CYCLE CHALLENGE Revolution by group Rx is a cycling program that brings the outdoor ride – inside. Interval bases cadence training takes your classes through sprints, hill and mountains, to achieve results and personal goals. Revolution is a 60-minute cycling program tailor-made for anyone who can ride a bike. This class is capped at 10 participants. KANGA TRAINING Kanga training is a complete workout during which both cardiovascular endurance/ flexibility and muscular capacity/ strength are enhanced. Unlike traditional exercise classes, new mums need not worry about finding a babysitter or minding an unsettled baby during class because the babies are worn on them and get to be part of the action! As well as the physical benefits, the opportunity to meet other local mums in a fun, relaxed environment boosts their emotional wellbeing. The pelvic floor and abdominal muscles as well as correct posture are given special attention. Kangatrainers are also trained in babywearing best practices and can help mums ensure the safest and most comfortable carrying positions for their babies.

GUT AND BUTT BLAST: is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. METAPWR: is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body, involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat.
LET’S LIFT: this program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.
