FOLLOW MY LEAD EDUCATION PROGRAM BEGINS Isaac Regional Council advises residents that compliance officers will begin a three-week campaign starting from Monday, 24 August 2020 to encourage dog owners to take the lead.

The leash should be strong, in good condition, and of a length, so the dog is unable to create a nuisance or interfere with other animals or people.

Dogs need regular exercise to be healthy and for mental stimulation to stop them from becoming bored.

Dog owners are also required to clean up after the dog in public places as droppings pose a health risk to the community and other dogs and detract the amenity of the place.

Boredom often leads to anti-social behaviour such as digging holes, barking unnecessarily, escaping the property to wander and generally being mischievous.

Compliance officers will be giving on-the-spot advice during visits to public places and spaces for those owners that have dogs not under effective control.

Most dogs need to be taken for a walk or have some other form of exercise at least once a day.

Officers may have a treat for owners doing the right thing so be on the lookout when you walk your dog responsibly.

While dog walking is highly recommended, when taking a dog for a walk anywhere in public, Council park, reserve or beach, the dog must be on a leash.

The leash must be held securely by a person physically able to control the dog.

Keeping dogs under effective control by means of a leash in this manner, and under constant supervision, is a requirement of Council’s Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011 and applies to all dogs that are taken onto a public place.

FREE 3D PRINTING WORKSHOPS FOR CREATORS IN CLERMONT Are you thinking about buying a 3D printer?

Maybe you have one and would like to get more out of it?

All digital tinkers, creators, artists and curious individuals are invited to join the free 3D Printing Workshops held across the Isaac region, with an event held at the Clermont Civic Centre on Saturday, 5 September 2020.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn 3D printer’s design and setup, the materials used, and troubleshooting common printing dilemmas.

Local artisan and entrepreneur Royce Bailey of 3DprintCQ.com will demonstrate a variety of theoretical and hands-on skills for participants aged over 13 years.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the innovative workshops will offer those with a keen interest in the world of 3D printing an opportunity to enhance and learn some new skills.

“Council is proud to be able to offer these workshops across all locations of our region and to have local Royce Bailey share his knowledge and expertise on the topic is extremely exciting,” Mayor Baker said.

“These free workshops are part of building vibrant, resilient and diverse communities across the region and this is our Arts and Cultural Action Plan in full swing.”

This program is funded by Isaac’s Regional Arts Development Fund. The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to continue its RADF partnership with local governments with an investment of $2.08 million, through Arts Queensland, for the 2019-20 fund.

“This investment will support the delivery of hundreds of arts experiences and professional development opportunities across the state,” Ms Enoch said.

“Projects funded through RADF provide pathways for learning, contribute to the creation of jobs, foster creativity and boost cultural tourism.”

The Isaac 3D Printing Workshops will run until 17 October 2020 at Council halls and centres in Clermont, Middlemount, Glenden, Nebo and Moranbah. Each class will run between 9.30am to 2.30pm. Participants must bring their own laptop, mouse with scroll wheel and bottled water; and download the Cura program before attending the workshop.

GW3 LAUNCHES REGIONAL TRANSFORMATION DOCUMENT Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) today launched a regional advocacy document to steer Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday’s recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.

“This document articulates projects that are not just about the here and now, but provide a pipeline of opportunities and growth across our region.”

The “Transformation Region-COVID-19 regional response” document was launched in Bowen last Friday at a meeting of the Greater Whitsunday Council of Mayors attended by Mayor Andrew Willcox (Whitsunday), Mayor Anne Baker (Isaac) and Mayor Greg Williamson (Mackay).

Isaac Mayor Anne Baker said as a GW3 region of just over 170,000 people, in a ‘good’ year, we contribute more than $22B in Gross National Product.

Chair of GWCoM, Mayor Andrew Willcox said the document highlights the significant projects that require government investment or fast tracking across the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region.

“Exports from this region drive the Queensland and Australian economy and supporting performance in these markets is critical.

“The document has been developed by GW3 in collaboration with the three regional councils and focuses on three key areas: funding vital regional infrastructure; supporting key industries and enabling future growth,” he said.

“Funding future major infrastructure projects in these three areas will cement this region’s position as a regional economic powerhouse and lead Queensland and Australia’s post COVID-19 economic recovery.

“Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region has experienced significant impacts from COVID-19, particularly in the Whitsundays as one of Australia’s premium tourism destinations.

“Agriculture, Mining and Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) are the cornerstone pillar of the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday economy,” she said.

“The message from Mackay Isaac Whitsunday is simple: invest so that we lead the economic response for Queensland and Australia.”

Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson said new projects and developments are essential to the continued growth and prosperity of regional Queensland areas.

“Mackay Isaac Whitsunday has a strong, diverse industry base and a depth of technical knowledge and experience,” he said.

“This region is committed to leveraging these strengths and parlaying them into establishing new industries which will enable future economic and, more importantly, jobs growth.”

“Our regional economy is driven by the mining, agriculture and tourism sectors.

“REMPLAN research has revealed that nine out of every ten GW3 businesses have experienced direct impacts as a result of COVID-19 with the average impact seeing a reduction in turnover of almost 50 per cent,” Mayor Willcox said.

“There can be no doubt that this region, despite our strong essential-industry workforce, is experiencing severe pain and requires Federal and State government investment for projects now.”

Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) CEO Kylie Porter said the economic landscape has dramatically changed in the wake of COVID-19.

“By working collaboratively together, our region is able to demonstrate to key decision makers that investing in Mackay Isaac Whitsunday protects jobs and drives future economic growth,” she said.

STATEMENT FROM ISAAC REGIONAL COUNCIL MAYOR ANNE BAKER A statement from Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker in response to an announcement that specialist resources workers will be permitted to travel from interstate to work in Queensland: I want to emphasise that Isaac Regional Council continues to have every confidence in the actions of the Queensland Government – and the Chief Medical Officer – however we are seeking information to satisfy the understandable concerns of our communities.

These exemptions are not our rules.

The exemptions have been negotiated between the resources industry and the Queensland Government.

As Mayor of Isaac Regional Council, I am on record as saying we do not support exemptions being given to the mining sector for workers from COVID-19 hotspots.

So far, we have been spared any cases of COVID-19 in our region, despite the risks posed by interstate travel, and we want to keep it that way.

We have put questions to the Queensland Government about how the risks of exemptions being provided for specialist workers for emergency works, who may be travelling from interstate hotspots, in to the coal fields of the Isaac region will be managed and we are awaiting a response.

Council maintains the position that the best solution is to allow specialist workers from interstate to travel to Queensland, have them quarantine for the mandatory 14-day period and then, cleared of COVID-19, remain on location in the region.

Protecting the health and welfare of our communities is our first priority.

Council will continue to be involved in discussions with the Queensland Government and resources industry on the issue of interstate workers in the Isaac region.

BUILDING RESILIENCE AND ADAPTION THROUGH COMMUNITY GRANTS Pure people power is set to ignite through the Isaac Community Grants program, helping to energise local communities.

“They are another example of the pure people power which drives our local communities and make the Isaac such a great place to live.”

To help the region’s social, sporting and cultural fabric through a cautionary COVID-19 period, the grants powered by Isaac Regional Council have been re-instated.

There are four categories for funding and applicants are encouraged to think about how their project, event or activity will benefit the people and community of the region, and what outcomes it will provide.

Mayor Anne Baker said building and supporting the region’s resilience is key through uncertain times.

Applicants are required to head to www.speakup. isaac.qld.gov.au and read the Isaac Community Grants Guidelines before proceeding with their application through the following categories:

“Isaac Community Grants fund local projects, events and activities that help develop resilient, adaptive and vibrant communities while it contributes to the social well-being of our residents, workers and visitors,” Mayor Baker said.

“Council has reactivated this program as part of our regional vision and strategic community plan as Isaac not-for-profit and community organisations return to business-as-usual activities, all while adhering to COVID Safe practices.

“Many of these organisations rely on volunteers and ongoing community support to deliver events and activities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors especially in these unprecedented times.

PUBLIC NOTICES DOG REGISTRATION RENEWAL NOTICES WITH NEW INCENTIVES AVAILABLE Isaac Regional Council is launching new incentives thanks to the Paws-itive Blueprint for Responsible Dog Ownership.

For the first time in the Isaac region and to encourage responsible dog ownership, there will be free puppy registrations for pups who microchipped and aged less than 12 months are and it doesn’t stop there.

If you are paying your dog registration renewal before the 11 September, you qualify for our early bird discount of 50 per cent.

Council is also now offering the following for registered and responsible dog owners: Paws-Itive Blueprint for Responsible Dog Ownership Free registration for pensioners who hold concession cards and own a desexed and microchipped dog.

50 per cent discount to anyone aged 65 or over who owns a desexed and microchipped dog.

Reciprocal Free Dog Registration up to 12 months if the dog has an active registration in another local government area.

If you are a member of the Canine Control Council (Dogs Queensland), you will receive a 50 per cent off or take advantage of the early bird discount period between 10 August and 11 September to receive a further 50 per cent discount.

In recognition of your responsible dog ownership, desexed and microchipped canines are no more than $20 for owners who have registered their pooches after 11 September!

For those registering for the first time, whether they’ve forgotten or moved to Isaac; you’ll qualify for pro rata registration discounts no matter what time of year you register.

Registration fees help to fund essential services for animal management including our pounds. The great thing about registering is that if Council picks up your dog, rangers return them for free for the first time.

Ain’t nothing but a pound dog if it’s unregistered – owners will be up for an impoundment fee and registration fee before they’re released home. Register, microchip and make sure your yard is secure and safe.

CLERMONT WATER QUALITY RESPONSE PLAN Isaac Regional Council would like to advise the Clermont community of the Clermont Water Quality Response Plan.

The Clermont Water Quality Response Plan outlines the upcoming changes and improvements to the Clermont Water Treatment Plant and network.

There should be no doubt about the quality of drinking water in any of our communities, and Council is putting strategies in place to prevent further water quality

ST MARY’S CHRISTMAS FAIR 2020 CANCELLED

Clermont Meals on Wheels delivers meals to those who need it, either on a permanent or temporary basis, to assist them to remain in their own homes. The committee is calling for volunteers to fill a few vacancies in our delivery team.

A huge thank you to the Clermont community for the incredible support over the years for the St Mary’s Christmas fair. It is always a fun family night.

The role entails delivering midday meals prepared and packed at the hospital to clients around the town who are in need of this assistance. A car is provided.

Meals are delivered on week days only and each round takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Each volunteer is rostered on only one day a month and they usually work in pairs. Substitutes are available if something crops up and you are unable to do your rostered delivery.

It is a very rewarding experience that involves little time or effort so give it some thought.

CLERMONT WATER QUALITY RESPONSE PLAN Council has developed a plan to outline what changes and improvements are planned for the Clermont Water Treatment Plant and network.

Isaac Regional Council is committed to maintaining, renewing and expanding its water infrastructure to meet the present and future needs of the communities of the region.

In partnership with government and industry, Council continues to invest significantly in this essential function as part of a focus on improving water infrastructure and service delivery.

Council acknowledges the region’s communities have experienced past issues in relation to water supply, but is working hard to deliver long-term solutions, particularly in the area of drinking water quality.

In 2019-20, Council is spending over $1M on maintaining and improving the region’s water infrastructure. In 20/21, over $2.5M has been approved and additional funds are also proposed to be spent specifically on projects relating to the sustainability of the Clermont water supply network.

Council is committed to providing regular updates on the progress of the actions outlined in the Clermont Water Quality Response Plan. Regular updates on the progress will be made on Council’s website.

Each item outlined in the Clermont Water Quality Response Plan will be updated on the website so the Clermont community can regularly keep track of the progress.

If you enjoy watching birds visiting your garden but don’t know what species they are, the library has books to help you identify them.

The books will also help you identify the variety of birds living around the lagoon.

FREE WI-FI All Isaac Libraries now offer free Wi-Fi to visitors. You can access up to 500MB of data per day via your smartphone, tablet or laptop. It’s great for browsing and downloading some of our fantastic online resources.

Just search for the IRC Libraries network in your settings and follow the prompts to register and log-in.

It’s available inside and outside the library so you can maintain social distancing.

MOVIES ONLINE WITH KANOPY Kanopy can bring the cinema to you in the comfort of your lounge. Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video platform for public libraries that offers viewers a large collection of award-winning films and documentaries.

There are collections on Australian films, popular films, foreign films, documentaries. Kanopy for Kids has many popular children’s TV shows and films.

To access Kanopy, you will need to download the Kanopy app on your device and be an Isaac Libraries member to create an account. You will then be able to download 10 films/documentaries each month, but each download has a time limit for viewing.

TUNE INTO Isaac Libraries now offer Freegal Music to patrons.

Freegal Music is a free music service offering access to about 15 million songs and over 40,000 music videos.

Patrons can access Freegal Music through the Libraries, Arts and Cultural Services link at Isaac Regional Council’s website or download the Freegal app on to a device.

You will need your library membership number and Libero password to access Freegal. You have 24 hours 7 days a week of free music streaming and you can download three titles to keep per week.

E-RESOURCES An Isaac Libraries membership allows you to borrow out not just books, DVDs and audiobooks on CD, but also e-books and digital audiobooks. Library membership also gives you access to e-resources, digital magazines, movies and music online.

You don’t even need to visit a library to sign-up.
