TWIN HILLS SPRINGS INTO STEP THIS WEEK A unique Isaac outback experience combining country racing, rodeo, campdraft and gymkhana is set for a four-day extravaganza at Twin Hills this weekend. The Twin Hills complex is just off the Gregory Hwy between Clermont and Charters Towers and is well signposted.
Division 1 Isaac Regional Councillor Greg Austen will present the Leading Trainer following the last race on Saturday, 28 September. Isaac Regional Council is a proud supporter of the Twin Hills event thanks to the Isaac Community Grants Program which funds activities and benefits residents in the Isaac region. PUBLIC NOTICES CLERMONT SPORTSGROUND EASTERN TOILET BLOCK CLOSURE Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents and sportsground users the eastern toilet block between the netball courts and main football field is closed until further notice. Council officers are evaluating the structural condition assessment advice recently received and will ensure the community is updated on any future actions associated with the facility. CLERMONT SPORTSGROUND GRANDSTAND CLOSED Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents the sportsground grandstand on Rubyvale Road is closed until further notice. The grandstand will be undergoing a refurbishment, which will see the existing facility reconstructed to a compliant standard. Council apologises for any inconvenience and thanks the community for their patience.
CHANGES TO KERBSIDE COLLECTION SCHEDULES, ISAAC REGION Isaac Regional Council advises residents that a new kerbside collection contractor will begin from:
Monday 7 October 2019 There are no changes to the route schedules in Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount and Moranbah under this new contract with Cleanaway, but there may be a change to the time of day your bins are collected. Please be reminded that when placing bins for collection to place them 1m apart and to be out by 6am. Recycling is collected every fortnight and general waste is weekly.
There will also be a free magnet to all Isaac residents via Australia Post from early October of the kerbside collection schedules. If you haven’t received one by 8 October, please contact Council’s 24/7 Customer Service Centre on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227). EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT FOR RATES NOTICES Isaac Regional Council would like to advise residents that rates notices will be issued from Monday, 30 September. Discount period closes 30 October 2019
Ratepayers who make prompt payment on or before 30 October will receive a 10 per cent discount on general rates.
Ratepayers who have encountered delays with the postal service in their area can register their email address with Council for an additional rates notice to be issued electronically.
Unpaid rates from 31 October will incur 9.83 per cent interest per annum, compounded daily.
If you have recently moved or changed your contact details, please check that you have informed Council to ensure delivery of rates notices on time.
If you require further information please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).

CR JONE’S COLUMN Almost feels like summer is upon us through the day, but the nights are still a bit cool. No doubt this will soon change. Poor old Axel is feeling the heat already. The extra pounds he is carrying does not make his situation any better. Might have to cut him down to no more than 10 treats a day. I had a few busy days fielding questions about the water restrictions. The matter found there was there was an error, which has now been rectified and for the time being we are not on water restrictions. However, I hope everyone is doing their best to be water aware. Be conscious of what and when you water. The more conservative we are with our usage, the longer we will have water. I have to admit that I was disappointed in having to hear so many negative comments from some of our community about the water situation.

Our parks and gardens people are doing a great job in keeping the town and parks looking great. I know it can’t be easy with the heat. Has everyone noticed how quickly the water in the lagoon is dropping? Doesn’t seem that long ago that it was spilling over.

BABY BOUNCE, STORY TIME AND CRAFT The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a great way to connect with other parents with young children. BABY BOUNCE (0-2 years) Come along on Thursdays from 9.30am to 10am. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.
BOOKINGS Bookings are essential for all library programs and events. Please call Clermont Library on 4846 3746. Please note: Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times when visiting the library, including during organised programs.
STORY TIME AND CRAFT (0-5 years) This is held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 10.30am. Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.
HOLIDAY FUN CONTINUES AT LIBRARY There is one more week of school holidays and if the children need ‘something to do’, bring them to the Clermont Library. A craft session on decorating bookends will be held on Thursday, 3 October from 10am to 11am. The bookends are preloved library bookends needing new homes. Sessions are limited to 15 places as this helps keep the sessions to a manageable and enjoyable level.
SPOTLIGHT ON STEVE HAWKE Steve Hawke is not only an Australian writer but the son of an Australian prime minister, the late Bob Hawke. Hawke’s latest book, Out of Time, is dedicated to his late mother, Hazel Hawke, after witnessing her struggle with Alzheimer’s. Out of Time is about a couple nearing old age and looking forward to retirement, when one spouse begins to suffer from early onset dementia. He grew up in Melbourne but moved to the Northern Territory in his late teens, then to the Kimberley. He lived in the Kimberley for 15 years, working for Aboriginal communities and organisations. Much of his writing is influenced by his experiences in the Kimberley.
NEED A COMPUTER Did you know that there is more to the Clermont Library than borrowing books, audio books on CD and DVDs? People can use the public computers to access the internet, check their emails, create documents or spreadsheets at no cost. There is a small cost for printing. People can also have documents photocopied for a small fee and there are also scanning facilities available as well. You don’t need to be a Clermont Library member to use the computers, scanner or photocopier.
