CLERMONT RAG FRIDAY APRIL 27, 2018
CLAIM THE DATE FOR A GREAT CAUSE Isaac residents can mark their calendars for the region’s gala night of nights, with Saturday, August 11 announced as the date for annual Mayor’s Charity Ball. This year’s stylish black tie affair will be held under the night sky in Morbanah’s Town Square, featuring a sumptuous three-course dinner, live music and entertainment, prizes, charity auction and much more. “It will truly be a night to remember, dancing and dining under the stars in the town centre, but we are also raising money for an important and vital cause,” Mayor Anne Baker said. The gala event, which is an initiative of the Isaac Regional Charity Fund, is raising money for mental health initiatives in communities across the region. “2017’s gala ball raised nearly $69,000 for mental health initiatives and we’re looking forward to an even bigger event this year on 11 August with the support of the community,” Mayor Baker said. “Funds raised are helping to make are real difference in the lives of Isaac residents.

FREE GREEN MULCH TRIAL CLERMONT WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY Isaac Regional Council advises that residents will be able to access free green waste mulch for their gardens from the Clermont Waste Management Facility on:
The last Sunday of each month starting from Sunday April 29 between 9am to 1pm Residents will be entitled to two cubic metres of free mulch until 30 June 2018 or until the stockpiles are exhausted. The trial will assist in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill through the recycling of green waste as quality mulch. The use of mulch as a conservation tool to reduce evaporation and to hamper underlying weed growth is widely accepted. For safety purposes, the mulch will need to be loaded by a Council-operated loader and not manually by hand, so customers will require a suitable utility or trailer for collection. Any children or animals accompanying a customer collecting mulch must remain within the vehicle at all times. It is also a requirement that the load be fully secured and covered by a tarpaulin or similar before departing the site. Customers will have to show they have a suitable cover before loading commences. Customers wishing to collect free mulch will be required to accept the full terms and conditions of the green mulch trial at the Waste Management Facility Gatehouse prior to the commencement of the loading process.

RAISE YOUR HAND FOR MENTAL HEALTH GRANTS Not-for-profit organisations in the Isaac region with projects and programs targeting mental health awareness and support are being encouraged to raise their hands for assistance from the Isaac Regional Charity Fund. Mayor Anne Baker said organisations were invited to apply for the 2018 round of grants to assist with the delivery of worthwhile charitable projects which engaged with residents in the mental health space. “The aim of Isaac Regional Charity Fund is to distribute monies raised through initiatives such as the annual Mayor’s Charity Ball towards projects which support the residents of the Isaac,” she said.
“Earlier this year we invested $30,000 to help the headspace foundation deliver a series of workshops to equip the youth of our region with tools to help combat feelings of anxiety, depression and loneliness. “It is important that we work together to bring mental health out of the shadows and into the national consciousness. I encourage suitably qualified local organisations to make application for grants from the Fund.” To find out more about the grant application process email Grants Committee chair Ian Joblin at ian@brownbird.com.au

QCWA CLERMONT NEWS Our Country of Study this year is Germany and each meeting Maureen gives a very interesting account of this country. She has even bought along some of their foods for us to try.
A gold coin donation will go to the organisation to help less fortunate women in the world. You only need to walk a few steps or what you feel comfortable with - it’s up to the individual.
Our International Lunch will be held on July 4.
On May 2 at 9.30am we will hold a Cent Sale and morning tea with all profits going to Diabetes Australia. Bernie Selwood from the Clermont Hospital will be our guest speaker and will give a presentation during the Cent Sale.
We are again sponsoring prizes for the Clermont Show which is celebrating 150years this year. We will also cater for the Sponsor’s Breakfast at the Show. We decided to donate $500 to both the Meals on Wheels and to Blair House in Clermont. On April 29 it is Women Walk for the World day but we have decided to walk today Friday, April 27 at 9.30am down at Centenary Park followed by morning tea. We were pleased to hear some of the residents from Monash Lodge will join us and we hope others will also.
Jenny and Denise have Country Kitchens up and running again and are conducting cooking sessions every second Friday for the State School Students. Some of our ladies have again been busy catering for the Cattle Sales. We would love to see more ladies come along and join our organisation.
