It’s time to show how much you care about keeping our region beautiful by rolling up your sleeves for Clean Up Australia Day, Sunday March 6.

Isaac Regional Council is again supporting this important environmental initiative, hosting community clean up events in Moranbah, Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount, Glenden, Nebo and Carmila.

Residents, community groups and companies across the region are invited come along and help do their bit towards protecting their local environment.

Isaac Regional Council CEO Rod Ferguson said Clean Up Australia Day provides a fun and simple way for individuals to make a real difference to the environment.

“Whether you pull together your own Clean Up Australia team or join us at a Council-organised event, the important thing is that we all get out there do our bit,” he said.

“Littering and illegal dumping has terrible long-term effects on wildlife, the natural environment and the visual appeal of our towns.

New water mains installation – Derrett Court Isaac Regional Council would like to advise residents of Derrett Court of new water mains being installed from: Monday February 22 to Monday March 7 8am to 4pm

“On March 6, I encourage everyone to head to a location that is important to them – a local park, sports field, beach, walking track, creek, street or bike way – and help keep our environment beautiful.

“Don’t forget to bring along your gloves, hat, closed-in shoes, longsleeved shirt, sunglasses and sunscreen.”

Clermont pedestrian crossing – solar light installation

Isaac Regional Council would like to advise the community of the pending installation of solar lights for the pedestrian crossing on Box Street.

During this time machinery such as excavators and trucks will be working in Derrett Court and we ask residents to take extra care when walking or driving in this area.

The foundation works for this project will begin the week of Thursday February 25 with poles erected by Thursday March 3, weather and contractor permitting.

Council apologises for any inconvenience and advises residents that they will be informed 48 hours in advance of any water disruption.

These works will be carried out between the hours of 9.30am to 2pm.

Isaac Regional Council CEO Rod Ferguson said everyone is invited to special events recognising and celebrating the achievements of Queensland women and girls.

“These events are opportunities for women of all ages and backgrounds to join together in celebration.”

“We should reflect and acknowledge the outstanding contribution women make to our communities, workplaces and lives.”

Council distributes funds to local community organisations who deliver a range of local community events and activities that contribute to connectedness, social wellbeing and increase access to support services.

International Women’s Day, held globally on 8 March each year, will be a highlight of Queensland Women’s Week.

On that day, Queensland women join millions of others throughout the world to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future.

These events are supported through the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services Community Drought Support Packages.

Graziers set sights on sustainability Graziers in North Queensland will get the opportunity learn more about sustainable beef production practices at Grazing Best Management Practices (BMP) workshops in March.

AgForce Regional Manager Paul Burke said the workshops will give graziers an understanding of the program and how it can help them improve their long term productivity, profitability and sustainability.

“Grazing BMP provides best practice guidelines, outlined in the programs five modules, to help graziers improve their farm practices and demonstrate sustainable and ethical beef production.”

The five modules include: soil health, animal health and welfare, grazing land management, animal production and people and business. Graziers will get the chance to begin their Grazing BMP Self-Assessment at the workshops, which involves answering questions about their current practices.

“While working through the modules graziers will be able to see how they stack up against industry standard and identify areas for improvement within their own practices to become ‘at’ or ‘above’ industry standard.”

“Grazing BMP then provides a conduit for graziers to upskill or adjust their practices according to their identified areas that need improvement,” Mr Burke said.

“Sustainably produced food is becoming a mainstream consumer expectation rather than a novelty, the Grazing BMP program demonstrates graziers are addressing consumer demands, while continuing to protect the environment.”

The workshops will also feature guest speakers, including: Noel Brinsmead from AgForce Projects; Bob Shepard and Jo Robertson from QDAF and Corrie Grimmett from Livestock Biosecurity Network.

contributed by Sarge Well sorry to disappoint so many with not having my articles in but I was on a spot of leave.

Firstly hasn’t the place greened up a bit and oh my how the mowers have sung. It is a pity that so many grumble about the mowing. You can’t have a green lawn without the rain and you certainly can’t expect the grass to grow just enough to stay under the mower blades! But I do have one request.

With so many kids walking to and from school I notice that some yards are very overgrown and with that comes brown snakes. Children are inquisitive and dare each other the most ridiculous brave tasks. Don’t want to see anyone bitten, so if we could all keep footpaths and debris to a minimum around our houses it would be best for everyone and especially good for any emergency services workers when they come to help you in your time of need.

Kids and bikes. Look 95% are doing the right thing and it is bad that some get stereotyped in with the rest. The other 5% are dodging the rules. I do not care if it is uncomfortable, hot or simply uncool to wear a helmet on your head. It is the law and it is to protect the brain matter of the kids. It does not wash with me that Little Billy or Johnny left their helmet at home or they do not have one. Simply leave the bike at home and walk. I of course think it is suspicious when kids are walking their bikes to school. Bikes that get seized from children will be waiting at the police station for the parents to pick up and explain their child’s actions.

On the highway it seems definite now that traffic has slowed down and definitely thinned out more than my hair. But we still keep getting speeders. The speeds have reduced overall which is a good thing and locals seem to have learned their lessons than people travelling through.

For P plate drivers, the P plate is essential. It avoids you getting a fine and tells other drivers that although some of you think you are Skafey you may not necessarily have the skill to pull it off. If you don’t know who that is ask your parents.

Learner drivers, same deal tell everyone your a learner, and for both lots of drivers make sure you take the plates back off again if mum or dad are driving as this can fetch a hefty fine also.

Still no information has come in regarding a rear window on a white utility at the hospital being smashed. If anyone knows anything ring the station and tell us what you know. Anonymity is assured, well unless your the one that did it. Information is also sought on some road signs that were damaged on the Clermont Alpha Road near Cremorne Station about 90 kilometres towards Alpha. It would appear someone travelling to the Alpha Rodeo may have decided to smash some signs up. Fortunately no one was hurt but it was a dangerous situation as motorists could have crashed into a concrete wall without the detouring signs. So if you have anything please call the station.

Lastly I would like to talk about trespassing. If you do not own the land you are walking on, get off it unless you have permission to be there from the owner. This includes the government in some situations. Lately people have been taking liberties when they spot a mountain, an interesting spur, or a water hole they want to go and explore. This is not on people and large fines await anyone that flaunts landowners rites. Some farmers and business owners have to pay huge sums of insurance just to operate their business. They don’t need some Leyland brother type explorer traipsing through their paddocks, getting hurt and then deciding it was everyone elses fault when they end up in that predicament. So to reiterate, stay out of other peoples property.

That’s about it for now. Keep up the good work and be patient when you get pulled up for an RBT and spoken to by the police. That’s our job!!

Should have a contest on social media or something to see who gets tested the most for the year, the winner certainly would not get a carton of beer!

First Five Forever The First Five Forever program aims is to give children from birth to five years old the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families.

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.

Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years.

Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.

The Clermont Library runs three children’s sessions a week and all programs are aimed at helping young children develop their literacy, numeracy and language skills from a young age, through singing nursery rhymes, performing action songs and reading books.

Pregnancy Pilates A low impact pilates class which focuses on pelvic floor, posture and general strength and well being for pregnant ladies who have been cleared to exercise during their pregnancy.

Yoga A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility.

SPIN/Revolution Great music and a fantastic calorie burning hour of indoor cycling. You’ll learn correct technique for improved performance and have fun cycling.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane.

While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps.

This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Aqua Fit An excellent fitness class in the water for all ages groups and fitness levels, the class is a combination of deep water and shallow water aquatic exercises designed to improve flexibility, aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains.

Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!

Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

THUMP boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.

Winners of the1st qualifying round of the 4BBB were Reg Olzard and Troy Frazer on a count back from Peter Messer and Warren Marr. Open pin shot to Troy Frazer and approach shots to Jamie Beale , John Wood and Cec Mooney.

Ladies winners were Olly Faros and Essie Wood. Open pin shot to Sandy Rieck and approach shots to Sharon Gowing and Essie Wood.

This Saturday Mixed Ambrose Championship and on Sunday 27 hole Ambrose Championship. Hit off at 1pm on Saturday and on Sunday ladies hit off at 9.30am and men at 10am.

Vets golf

Vets braved the heat for their weekly competition and the winner was Essie Wood with run downs to Doug Lawrence and Tony Henn. Least putts to Essie Wood and Doug Lawrence.
