TAKE A WHISK, CLERMONT AND SIGN UP TO JAMIE’S MINISTRY OF FOOD Jamie’s Ministry of Food is set to launch a five-week online cooking program exclusively to Isaac region residents from their home kitchens in October. Open to residents aged 12 and above who are living and working in Isaac’s 17 unique communities will learn how to make meals from scratch. Acting Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said Isaac Regional Council is proud to offer this world-class course to residents to help develop and sharpen their cooking skills. “With funding contribution from the Queensland Government and with the support of Health and Wellbeing Queensland, Jamie’s Ministry of Food is committed to improving the nutritional education and cooking skills for locals and priority groups,” Cr Vea Vea said. “Thank you to The Good Foundation and Jamie’s Ministry for Food in providing this prime opportunity to help teach residents how to bring the best flavours out of fresh ingredients and how to meal plan on a budget, so food goes further.

“We are a region that feeds, powers and builds communities and this program exemplifies Isaac’s mission.” The Good Foundation CEO Siobhan Boyle said the program will teach participants the basics of food, nutrition and cooking, as well as some of Jamie’s special tips and tricks. “Isaac locals will learn how to make meals from scratch, by baking, grilling, sautéing, boiling and roasting fresh ingredients,” Ms Boyle said. “The program equips people with skills that make it simpler and quicker to cook healthy, delicious meals. Maintaining a healthy diet is always important and particularly during these difficult times.” The program is open to Isaac region residents aged 12 and above every Monday from 5.30pm starting from 12 October to 9 November 2020. Places are limited at $10, booking your spot by visiting https://bit.ly/JMOFIsaac or for more information visit https://bit.ly/3cftWmo Learn skills from some of Jamie’s Ministry for Food trainers, including Laura Duff and Jayde Cesarec, pictured above.

ISAAC’S NATURAL BEAUTY ON DISPLAY The beauty of the Isaac region will be displayed in a new exhibition going up at the Coalface Art Gallery. From Monday (September 21), the best of the entries in the recent #ourisaac photo competition will grace the gallery walls. “The beauty and variety of our region has been captured spectacularly by the marvellous photographs entered in the #ourisaac photo competition,” Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said. “Now, the best of these photos will be on display for three weeks at the Coalface Art Gallery. “From coastal pandanus to rugged caves to sweeping vistas, it is all here, and more. Who could view the selection of competition photos on display here and not want to visit our region?” Mayor Baker said that, with international travel suspended and Queenslanders re-discovering domestic holiday destinations, there is no better time to have had a promotion such as this. “While the Isaac is known as home to half the coal mines in the State, and the source of billions of dollars in royalties and other revenue for Queensland, it also attracts a considerable number of tourists. “However, there is still room for more. We are a big region – almost 60,000 square kilometres – with lots of beautiful beaches and bush to explore, and Council wants to see the number of tourist visits increase significantly.

Clermont’s Julie Turner captured this beautiful #ourisaac image

“Already, tourism is the third most valuable industry in the Isaac region, worth more than $190 million a year and directly employing approximately 1,000 people. “However, Council is working hard on a number of fronts to increase tourist visits and to make Queenslanders and interstate visitors aware of the attractions in our region. “Promotions like the photo competition – and this exhibition that has followed – will certainly help us achieve that goal.” The #ourisaac in pictures exhibition runs until Friday, 9 October at the Coalface Art Gallery and will be open during business hours.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 2020 ISAAC REGION AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS Nominations for those who truly embody Isaac’s mantra of pure people power are now open for the 2021 Isaac Region Australia Day Awards. Residents are encouraged to nominate their community champion, the quiet go-getter or perhaps the humble hero by Sunday, 30 November 2020. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the annual awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and say thanks to some of the region’s most noteworthy residents. “We are region rich in resources, but we are also blessed with the greatest resource of all - our people,” Mayor Baker said. “The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that even though we have to stay apart at times, human

connection in communities is ever so important. “We continue to show that our pure people power is helping our communities to thrive as we continue to help energise the world. In Isaac, we’re used to meeting new people and no-one stays a stranger for long. “We enjoy sharing our enthusiasm and pride of our region with each other and this is the chance to celebrate that person we all think highly of.” Mayor Baker said the awards are a chance to honour those individuals, groups and organisations who have made a significant contribution to our social, civic, sporting and cultural life locally, nationally and internationally. “Nominees can be from all walks of life from youth, to community groups, to senior citizens,” she said. “We want to shine a light on the outstanding achievements of everyday people who make us proud to be Australian.”

CLERMONT WATER QUALITY RESPONSE PLAN Council has developed a plan to outline what changes and improvements are planned for the Clermont Water Treatment Plant and network. Isaac Regional Council is committed to maintaining, renewing and expanding its water infrastructure to meet the present and future needs of the communities of the region. In partnership with government and industry, Council continues to invest significantly in this essential function as part of a focus on improving water infrastructure and service delivery. Council acknowledges the region’s communities have experienced past issues in relation to water supply, but is working hard to deliver long-term solutions, particularly in the area of drinking water quality. In 2019-20, Council is spending over $1M on maintaining and improving the region’s water infrastructure. In 20/21, over $2.5M has been approved and additional funds are also proposed to be spent specifically on projects relating to the sustainability of the Clermont water supply network. Council is committed to providing regular updates on the progress of the actions outlined in the Clermont Water Quality Response Plan. Regular updates on the progress will be made on Council’s website. Each item outlined in the Clermont Water Quality Response Plan will be updated on the website so the Clermont community can regularly keep track of the progress.
