150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CLERMONT SHOW - THE ISAAC REGION’S SHOW contributed by Clermont Show Committee
We have been working hard and it’s all about to be on display at the 150th celebration Clermont Show being held from Monday, May 28 to Wednesday, May 30. A celebration for all ages and one definitely not too miss. Entertainment, trade sites, competitions, displays, woodchop, cattle, horses and of course, side show alley. Everything you need to celebrate what is fabulous about the Isaac Region. Rumour has it that the pumpkins are huge and the cattle are fat! Gate prices are the same whether attending for one day or two. $5 per adult, $3 for high school students and pensioners, free for children under 12. Visitors who attend on Tuesday may keep their ticket for free entry on Wednesday, the Show Public Holiday. It all begins on Monday May 28 with Beef Cattle Judging and Show Jumping starting at 9am. Dressage will then start in the centre ring at 10am. There will be plenty of hustle and bustle around the grounds with Stud Cattle arriving, Birds and Poultry being caged and Pavilion entries continuing to be dropped off. Hopefully everyone has a restful night Monday night because Tuesday is going to be huge. How huge? Think every Big Pumpkin you have seen plus 100kg – that’s how huge. Stud Cattle and Show Jumping are straight up 8am, followed by the Ring events at 8.30am and the Beef Cattle Sale at 9am.

If your Big Pumpkin is ready to go, these need to be dropped in by 11.30am and then hang around for a Taste Test of some of the best beef the Region has to offer at 12:30pm. Once your taste buds are satisfied, the Commercial Bull Sale will have started at 2pm in the Ladies Annexe next to the Main Bar and if bull’s aren’t really your thing, the Pavilion and Poultry Shed will be open for display. You then don’t have to move too far to enjoy the Six Bar Show Jumping which will then lead on to the amazing night of entertainment, wood chop and fireworks. See, we told you to make sure you get a good night’s sleep! Make sure you come back on Wednesday, using your entry ticket from Tuesday, for more Ring and Show Jumping, Wood Chop, Dairy Goat judging, Young Judging competitions and of course, the Grand Parade. There will be lots of roving entertainment, local dancing and musical acts and a show from the world renowned Rooftop Express. Plus a visit to see Reptile Luke and the Petting Zoo are a must. This year will also see the annual Beef Dinner on Tuesday night which also includes lots of displays and celebrations for the 150 Year Anniversary. continued over

LYRICAL OUTCOME TO HELP ARTS IN CULTURE IN ISAAC
Pure talent fuelled by people power will energise Isaac through a longstanding collaborative art funding effort. Four groups will benefit from more than $12,000 thanks to Round Two of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
“It will be wonderful to hear new songs written by Isaac performers. “Clermont Artslink is also hosting a singing workshop by cabaret performer Nadia Sunde in Clermont on Saturday, August 18.
Mayor Anne Baker said the latest round in funding is an investment in pure people power.
“Participants will be invited to sing with Nadia in her touring show, 1971 The Music at the Clermont Civic Centre in the evening.
“I’m proud to announce Queensland Music Festival (QMF), Clermont Artslink, Flaggy Rock Quilters and Nebo-based leathercraft artisan, Mary-Ellen McEvoy will benefit from this funding,” Mayor Baker said.
“Flaggy Rock Quilters are looking forward to learning new skills from Mirani-based textile artist, Stephanie Allen, during the two-day bag making workshop in June.
“Last year’s QMF production The Power Within, lit a fire within local musicians and singers especially those in Dysart, Clermont and Moranbah.
“Nebo-based leather artisan, Mary-Ellen McEvoy, is developing her leathercraft skills by attending workshops at a Brisbane conference featuring instructors from around the world.”
“QMF’s new project, The Power of Song, focuses on skills development through choral and song writing workshops to be conducted in June to August this year by the very talented singer song writers, Emma Dean and Leigh Carriage. “Workshop participants will hone their skills to incorporate into performance outcomes in their local communities.
The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, is contributing $2.08 million to the 201718 RADF partnership across 59 councils state-wide.
PHOTOGRAPHERS INVITED TO SHOWCASE THE ISAAC’S TRUE COLOURS Photographers are being encouraged to click creatively with the Isaac region’s picturesque wetlands, waterways and beaches in this year’s Colours of Isaac competition. The annual photographic contest provides an opportunity for photographers of all ages and abilities to capture imagery showcasing the wonders of the Isaac region.
Entries in the competition will be showcased on Council’s Facebook page, with a popular vote determining the five finalists. The ultimate winner will be selected from the final five by a panel of judges and announced at the St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend in early June. “Every year, the Colours of Isaac photographic competition harnesses the pure people power of camera lovers across the region to frame the wonder our stunning region through the lens,” Mayor Anne Baker said. “From the coast to the coalfields, the Isaac is home to a dynamic and beautiful landscape, with the focus of this year’s photographic competition being images inspired by wetlands, waterways and beaches. If the experience of previous years is a measure, we are expecting to see some outstanding examples of photography in 2018.”

THE NIGHT THE ROOS CAME IN contributed by Jumbo Burnett You could say it’s getting dry out here, The grass has all turned brown, And I am feeling quite forlorn, Next week the show’s in town. Well you know this is 150, it’s a really special show, And long ago I had decided to give giant pumpkins a go, I had bought my seed from Fiona; I thought I’d done all right, But I hadn’t calculated that the Roos would come at night! I knew that they were getting in to give the lawn a chew, It seemed to me that’s pretty cool, one less job to do! But today things don’t look so good, ‘mow natural’ is in doubt, As I’ve found my biggest pumpkin with a big bite taken out! I was out on the verandah, feeling rather smug, My pumpkin patch was looking good from that manure that I’d dug. But as I gazed out knowingly, just dreaming of my prize, I noticed something different; I could not believe my eyes!
Oh, what a dilemma, my heart was really beating. I could patch it up with Araldite, but I somehow think that’s cheating! My next one isn’t big enough; it wouldn’t win a prize, My last great chance for stardom has just flashed before my eyes! I tried to paint a picture, but that turned out a mess, So I started up my wood lathe, thought I’d make a set of Chess. But my standard’s pretty fussy; I made two pawns the first day, And I know Clermont Show 150 is just a week away! So I’ll have to have a look around to see what else is here, Perhaps I’ll take some fresh laid eggs or chutney for this year, One thing I know for certain, it really is quite true, For Show 150 to be special, it’s up to me and you!
I ran out for a closer look, you’d say I was bereft, For overnight it seemed quite clear, I’d suffered ‘Pumpkin Theft’! It was my biggest beauty, my pride and joy you’d say, And now the bloody ‘Roos had eaten half of it away!

PUBLIC NOTICES 1080 WILD DOG AND FERAL PIG BAITING PROGRAM 2018 Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that a second round of baiting will be conducted during the period below to provide landholders with an opportunity to undertake further control of wild dog and feral pig populations. Currently this baiting period is scheduled for the dates below:

FREE GREEN MULCH TRIAL CLERMONT WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY Isaac Regional Council advises that residents will be able to access free green waste mulch for their gardens from the Clermont Waste Management Facility on:
The last Sunday of each month starting from Sunday April 29 between 9am to 1pm Residents will be entitled to two cubic metres of free mulch until 30 June 2018 or until the stockpiles are exhausted. The trial will assist in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill through the recycling of green waste as quality mulch. The use of mulch as a conservation tool to reduce evaporation and to hamper underlying weed growth is widely accepted. For safety purposes, the mulch will need to be loaded by a Council-operated loader and not manually by hand, so customers will require a suitable utility or trailer for collection. Any children or animals accompanying a customer collecting mulch must remain within the vehicle at all times. It is also a requirement that the load be fully secured and covered by a tarpaulin or similar before departing the site. Customers will have to show they have a suitable cover before loading commences. Customers wishing to collect free mulch will be required to accept the full terms and conditions of the green mulch trial at the Waste Management Facility Gatehouse prior to the commencement of the loading process.

National Simultaneous Story Time is an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Service and aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Every year, a picture book written by an Australian author is chosen to be simultaneously read across Australia.

AXIS: Power to the core in 30 minutes. TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING: Every Suspension Training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants. THUMP: 1 hour boxing class. Boxing equipment is provided, inners must be worn and can be purchased for $5 from reception.
TRX FLEX incorporates strength through stretching. VIRTUAL REVOLUTION: Great music and a fantastic calorie burning hour of indoor cycling. You will learn correct technique for improved performance and have fun cycling. Bookings essential. This is a virtual run class - follow the instructor on the screen. YOGA: A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. This class is suitable for pregnant women. Screening will be conducted prior to participation. Bookings for Yoga are essential. BOOTCAMP: A fun (mostly bodyweight) class run by Lockie. Based around cardio fitness.

GOLF NEWS On Saturday May 19, Clermont Golf Club hosted the Glencore Mine Day. This was a 4 person Ambrose over 18 holes with 96 players hitting off. The wonderful collection of trophies were shared around very well. Clermont Golf Club would like to thank Glencore Clermont Mine for putting on a great day which was beneficial for the Club. Special mention to Dan Gosper who represented the mine. Thank you again to Glencore for hosting a great day for our Club.
HEALTH, FITNESS AND SOCIAL FUN MAD ABOUT FITNESS Contact: 0448 007 263 Address: 41 James Road All classes and open gym are $15. GUT AND BUTT BLAST: Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. OPEN GYM: This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. LETS LIFT: This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.
METAPWR: MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. CIRCUIT TRAINING: This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.
