Council opens career pathways Isaac Regional Council has announced a new intake of trainees and apprentices across the region.

“These positions combine hands-on work experience with a nationally recognised qualification.”

Applications opened Friday March 18 with fourteen positions available across the towns of Moranbah, Clermont, Middlemount and Dysart.

“Each opportunity ranges between one to four years in duration, with positions available in business administration, horticulture, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plant operations, water and sewerage and libraries.

Acting CEO Aaron Johansson said $137,500 from the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders For Work First Start Program has provided Council with a significant subsidy to boost their intake of trainees and apprentices. “The funding will provide ten more positions and supports long-term learning and development in the region.” “In addition Council is funding four more positions. Council is committed to supporting genuine career pathways and employment opportunities,” he said.

“We are excited to also have two school-based traineeships available at our Moranbah Library as part of this intake. Students interested in the Moranbah school-based traineeships should contact their school Careers Transition Officer. Road survey vehicle cruising Isaac Isaac Regional Council is keeping a close eye on roads with a survey vehicle hitting the streets soon.

The road survey is the first phase of a long term Asset Management Plan for the Isaac region.

Acting CEO Aaron Johansson said residents can expect to see the vehicle in April.

The plan will include an extensive audit of roads, water and sewerage network, parks and gardens as well as council buildings, vehicles and machinery.

“Council has enlisted the help of the ARRB Group to bring the Hawkeye 2000 Series dedicated Network Survey Vehicle to the Isaac region. “The specialist vehicle is equipped with cameras and lasers to assess the condition of roads.

“It will conduct a large-scale network survey of 3000km’s of Isaac roads over six to eight weeks. “The equipment can detect everything from pavement defects like cracks and potholes, to line marking and road surface roughness. “The survey data will help Council better distribute roads funding and project where funding will be needed into the future. “This information can also help assess damage caused by future flooding events. “The survey demonstrates our commitment to effective and sustainable infrastructure that supports our communities and its economic sectors.”

State announcement huge win for workers The Mayor of Queensland’s largest mining region has welcomed the State Government recommendation for legislative reform on 100% fly in/fly out (FIFO). Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the news is a long-awaited, positive step forward for Queensland workers and their families. “We’ve been working hard for so many years for all Queensland workers to have genuine choice,” she said. “As a region that is home to two 100% FIFO mines, this is a fantastic win for our resource communities, regional centres and our next generations.

“It’s vital that people across regional Queensland have the opportunity to apply for local mining jobs, and this legislation will mean workers can no longer be locked out of local employment. “Our communities will benefit from this progress in so many areas—employment, training, local business, accommodation and importantly, the health and wellbeing of our people.” “We look forward to assessing the detail of the Queensland Government’s comprehensive policy and legislative framework later in the year,” Mayor Baker said.

1080 Wild Dog and Feral Pig Meat Baiting Program for 2016 extended

Clermont Community that it acknowledges the Centenary of the Great Flood, 2016 and would like to advise Council is engaging with key stakeholders to commemorate this historical event.

Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that the baiting program for 2016 has been extended as per the dates set out below. Please Note: Baiting will only be conducted during the below periods.

Monday March 14 to Friday May 27 A second round of baiting will be conducted during the period below to provide landholders with an opportunity to undertake further control of wild dog and feral pig populations. Currently this baiting period is scheduled for the dates below:

Monday September 12 to Friday October 7 ‘Doggone’ factory baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date. ‘Doggone’ baits are supplied ‘at cost’. Prices will be confirmed at the time of ordering and baits will not be released before payment has been made to Council. Contact Council to enquire about available dates.

Clermont reseal works Isaac Regional Council would like to advise motorists that reseal works will commence in the following area, weather and contractor scheduling permitting, from Tuesday March 29 to

Council is seeking quality arts and cultural experiences for Isaac communities. Particularly opportunities for our regional young people aged 13 to 30 years. Support for emerging artists and cultural workers is a funding priority. Round two of the Isaac Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is now open and closes 5pm April 18. The partnership with the state

government supports art and cultural projects in regional areas. From children’s workshops to festivals, the program delivers great outcomes for our region. Children’s Easter Holidays activities The Clermont Library will be holding children’s holiday activities for primary school-age children during the Easter school holidays. Holiday activity sessions will be held on Tuesday March 29 and April 5, and Thursday March 31and April 7, from 11am to 12pm. The Ozobots are back and Ozobot sessions will be held on Thursday mornings during the school holidays. Ozobots are small robots that can be programmed with special codes drawn with marker pens. Different coloured marker pens are used to draw the code and give directions to the Ozobot. Craft sessions will be held on Tuesday mornings and include making a Japanese Carp kite and experimenting with bleeding tissue/crepe paper art. Bookings are essential for the Holiday Craft sessions and all children aged 12 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian. The ‘First Five Forever’ programs will continue to be held during the Easter Holidays at the normal times. First Five Forever The First Five Forever program aims to give children from birth to five years old the best chance in life and improve literacy outcomes. The Clermont Library runs three children’s sessions a week and all programs are aimed at helping young children develop their literacy, numeracy and language skills from a young age, through singing nursery rhymes, performing action songs and reading books. Book Sale Have you checked out the range of preloved library books, CDs and DVDs on sale at the Clermont Library? The shelves are constantly being refilled and all books are in good condition and include fiction, non-fiction and large print. Come in, browse and purchase a hard back for $3, paper back for $2, CD for $2, DVD for $3, or for a bargain, fill an Isaac Libraries Bag for $12. Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families. The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age. QCoal Community Dental Service bringing bright smiles to Clermont Residents of Clermont and the surrounding areas are encouraged to book an appointment with the QCoal Community Dental Service during its visit. This free service, delivered by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, will be in Clermont March 14 – 24. Comprising two dental surgeries in a purpose-built semi-trailer, the service provides dental care and treatment in communities where there is limited access to oral health services. The service is funded by the independently owned Queensland mining company QCoal Group through the QCoal Foundation. Anyone can make an appointment, and there is no out-ofpocket cost for patients. QCoal Group Managing Director Christopher Wallin said the service aimed to bring quality oral health care to people in rural and remote communities. “QCoal Foundation was established to enrich rural and remote communities, and I know from talking to our own employees and their families that a lack of access to dental care is a major concern for them,” Mr Wallin said. “Thanks to this service, they can now get the care they need on their doorstep, free of charge,” he said.

RFDS State Services Manager, Lauren Jesberg said the partnership between the RFDS and the QCoal Foundation was last year extended for another three years and represents a significant win for those living and working in rural and remote communities where access to dental care is a major concern. “Our dental experts can provide everything from a simple check and clean, through to an extraction or X-ray. “Booking in advance is crucial, so if you need to see a dentist don’t delay and call 1800 002 507 to make an appointment.” Ms Jesberg said the results supported research that highlighted a lack of access to oral health care in regional communities. “So far we have provided a significant amount of acute treatment. The data we’ve collected well and truly supports the need for the service which has been made possible by QCoal Foundation,” she said. Together, the Flying Doctor and QCoal Foundation will continue to look at ways to enhance the service and partner with Government to ensure the people who live in rural and remote Queensland have access to the same level of oral health care as their metropolitan counterparts. The Fun in the Fleece Woolshed Ball will be held from 6pm on Saturday 23rd April 2016 in the R.C.B Whelan Pavilion at the Clermont Showgrounds.

Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador Events Steward, Miss Marricka Clancy said, “We are designing the night to be a cultural experience that will engage, educate and entertain, with all the buzz of a Woolshed”. On the night, entrants in the Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador competition will participate in a Mini Young Farmers Challenge with the theme of ‘getting ready for the ball’.

Young Farmers Challenge Steward, Miss Ria Garside wanted to bring a taste of the Farmers Challenge to the event to boost the profile of the competition after it was introduced to the Clermont Show in 2015. There will be a Lamb’s Corner for the kids featuring AgForce’s children’s activities from Beef Week 2015. Guests will be treated to a complimentary drink upon arriving at the Woolshed, followed by a two-course Woolshed themed meal by Maryann Nicholson to delight the taste buds. A photo booth and dancing are sure to entertain, and a licensed bar will be operating. Buses will be operating to and from the event, departing at 5:30pm and 6:00pm from schools in Clermont and returning people to town from 10:30pm. Tickets are $50 per person for guest over 12 years, and $15 per child aged 5-12 years. Children under 5 years are free.

CWA Clermont news contributed by Jenny Wilby CWA Clermont branch are involved in the Country Kitchens programme. They had their first workshop in Mermaid Beach recently so thought you may like to see what it is all about. They will be here on the Thursday May 12 with the workshop starting at 12 noon to 3 pm and then each month for a total of five workshops. Each session costs $10.00 each and hopefully participants will committ to the five sessions. This money stays in branch for other CK programes. We have limited places. So if you are interested and want to hear
