Isaac gears up for Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie oi, oi, oi seems to be the chant on everyone’s lips as Isaac Region gears up for Australia Day celebrations this year.

“Australia Day has always been great fun and each year I am impressed by the true sense of community spirit,” Mayor Baker said.

Many hands have come together to make the events possible with some local businesses and community groups jumping on board.

From a Citizenship ceremony and triathlon in Moranbah to a festive street parade in Clermont, seven planned events will bring a community together.

“It doesn’t matter your background or your story, Australians are a proud nation always ready to share a snag, lamington or pie with a mate.

Grab your family, flags and face paint and join in this year’s Australia Day fun.

Mayor Anne Baker said there would be Australia Day celebrations at Carmila, Clermont, Dysart, Glenden, Middlemount, Moranbah and St Lawrence.

“We will be shining light on some outstanding people this year by announcing Australia Day Award nominees and winners at the events.

Isaac a straight shooter Jugs,Ambassador Jocks and Frocks

Olympic medallist Ryan Tyack has been announced as Isaac region’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2018.

The champion archer made history at the 2016 Olympic Games as part of Australia’s first-ever medal winning team.

Competing at his first Olympics, he shared the bronze medal with archery squad teammates Alec Potts and Taylor Worth.

Acting Mayor Cr Geoff Bethel said Mr Tyack would be the occasional speaker at Australia Day events at Moranbah and Carmila on Friday, 26 January.

“We look forward to welcoming Ryan to the Isaac region and hearing about his experiences as a sportsperson representing Australia in the green and gold,” Cr Bethel said.

“It’s a great opportunity for our community, particularly our young people, to learn of Ryan’s journey to international success.

“He took up archery to make new friends after experiences of school yard bullying, winning his first State medal after nine months.”

In addition to Olympic success, Mr Tyack has previously won gold at the World Indoor Championships in 2014, the World Youth Archery Championships in 2008 and the Junior World Outdoor Target Championships in 2006.

He holds 75 state records, 29 national records and five international records. He has won Best All-Round Male Recurve Archer at the National Championships six times.

School News Clermont State High School SAVE THE DATE This year Clermont State School and Clermont State High School’s introduction of Stymie, an anonymous online bullying reporting site.

Rachel Downie from Stymie will come to both schools in Week 2 of Term 1 to educate students on what bullying is and how to report bullying using www.stymie.com.au.

GUARDIANS - Get Your Techno Power Back!

She will also run an information session for parents and guardians aimed at helping keep children safe online.

Rachel will give you tips on how to manage kids’ devices and which apps can potentially create problems in the lives of students and parents everywhere.

The parent session will be at Clermont State High School at 6pm on January 30, 2018.

We encourage all parents and guardians in the community to attend.

Councillor Lyn's column “ Australia Day is almost upon us and I hope that the community of Clermont will make this day as memorable as it should be because we really do live in the luckiest country on earth.

My memory takes me back to raft races on the lagoon as one of the favourites for Australia Day. Alas due to the rules and regulations that we have to comply with we cannot have one.

But the setting of our park and the beauty of our lagoon is still something to behold (with or without rafts upon it). However, there will be a lot of activities for the parents and the kids so please keep your eye out for any competitions etc that you may be able to participate in. Best dressed bicycle is always one that kids of any age can participate in and one that the kids can do themselves.

I hope to see and catch up with as many of you as I can and lets all have a great day.”

Big things achieved for kids of Clermont contributed by Jenny Ellis Clermont Kindy and Day Care Centre are proud to announce the near completion of our Pre-Kindy playground upgrade. It is very exciting for everyone involved with the Centre as well as future generations of children living in and around Clermont.

“Glencore is delighted to be able to support Clermont Kindy & Day Care in this way. It is a vital service to the area that supports so many working families,” Morné Van Zyl, Environment & Community Manager, Clermont Open Cut, Glencore.

Much of the work on the Pre-Kindy playground was carried out over the Christmas period while the centre was closed. Special thanks to Robertson Plumbing and Clermont Concrete for cutting their Christmas break short to carry out work at the Centre, as well as the staff and families who helped with the working bee.

The new ‘nature inspired’ play spaces are an integral part of the learning experiences for the children of the centre.

Jenny Ellis, parent at the Centre says, “There has been an enormous amount of effort put into fundraising, grant applications and working bees since early 2015 to get all of the amazing improvements happening.”

Clermont Kindy & Day Care would like to thank all contributors to this project – especially major sponsors Glencore with a donation of project management services and $135,000, Michelle Landry MP Stronger Communities Program 2017 for $15,000, Sip & Style 2017 Fundraising Event $13,000 and BA Bush Sports with a donation of $5000.

Minor sponsors include Keune Investments, Nascott Working Kelpies, Skinner Family, Clermont Concrete, BKN Building Solutions, O’Donohoe Contracting and Clermont Carrying.

We were also pleased to engage the services of as many local businesses as possible throughout the project, including Whitto’s Tree Lopping, Stanhope Transport, Clermont Signage, Robertson Plumbing, Jellis Creative and Clermont Concrete.

The upgraded areas built by Nature Inspired Playgrounds have been so desperately needed for many years and will be cherished for decades to come. All members of the community are invited to an official opening of the Pre-Kindy Playground at 9.30am, Thursday 1st February.

CLERMONT HISTORICAL CENTRE TEMPORARILY CLOSED Isaac Regional Council advises the Clermont Community and visitors that the Clermont Historical Centre is temporarily closed, for its annual maintenance shut-down and preparation for a new exhibition.

The Clermont Historical Centre will reopen on Wednesday, 7 March at 9am.

During this closure staff are developing and installing a fascinating new exhibition titled “100 Objects”.

Baby Bounce Come along on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years.

Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Storytime and Craft Time See you at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to prep age.

Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps.

This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Open gym This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

MetaPWR MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power.

All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles.

Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Metafit This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train.

Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
