CHRISTMAS LIGHTS BRIGHTENING UP HOUSES A WHOLE ‘WATT’
Christmas cheer and festivities are rolling out across Isaac as the 2019 Isaac region Christmas Lights competition switches on.

Isaac Regional Council is encouraging residents to raise the bar on their creativity along with raising Christmas lights and decorations on homes and businesses in local communities.
“Our partnerships with these valuable community organisations are a welcome change to the coordination of the competition with Council remaining the major sponsor across the Isaac region,” Mayor Baker said.

“The Christmas lights competition aims to develop a sense of connectedness and generate some fun and festive community spirit. We are thrilled to continue the tradition this year.”

CR JONE’S COLUMN It seems as though we have had a fortnight of memories to commemorate. The Moranbah Miners’ Memorial was officially opened in Town Square at Moranbah earlier this month. What a truly moving ceremony with many heartfelt words spoken. On November 11, we observed Remembrance Day, recognised with a service at the memorial in front of the Clermont Civic Centre. I wore Uncle Theo’s medals for the first time and it seemed to make the day even more special. Thank you to those who attended. The older you get the more special some memories are. Mr Ivan Bettridge and Mr Bernie Bettridge have told me the story of the pit ponies that worked at the Blair Athol Coal Mine. My heart felt so very heavy when hearing that these horses spent their entire adult lives down in the pits and only came to the surface to die when they got too old to work. When they returned to the surface they were blind as they had lived in permanent darkness for some it was up to seven years and had to then be destroyed. Ivan did say he recollected that there were two or three horses that did manage to have their sight restored. One of these horses had actually saved the life of a miner on two occasions by stopping and not moving forward just prior to the collapse of a portion of the roof. So in return this miner gradually acclimatised these couple of horses to the sunlight. Conditions were so different back in those days.
Our regional street sweeper has been busy cleaning our streets. Wish we could have something like it to do the housework. Make life a bit easier. By the time you read this we will have had our suit and tie meeting in Glenden. It will be good to see some familiar faces at the meet and greet after our meeting. Bush fires are causing havoc and danger throughout our State. Let’s hope everyone abides by the public notifications that are being put out to try and keep everyone safe. Axel took a trip to Mackay the other day. Have to say it was the best he has behaved on a car trip. You would think for a dog who just loves to ride around town that he would enjoy a longer trip. But of course not. He won’t drink or eat the entire trip. Thank goodness he has a bit of a surplus to rely on. I attended the high school award presentations on 13 November. Congratulations to those who received awards and to all of the students who managed to complete another year of their education. The best of luck to those in Year 12 who will now have to go out and face the real world. It can be tough and a real challenge but we all got through it. I hope everyone remembers to drink plenty of water as it has been so hot. Well that’s about it for this fortnight. Until next time ... Lyn and her sidekick.

Rural towns like Clermont suffer a loss of population without seniors living options and choices available. As retirement approaches, community members begin to plan where they might move to that has the services that they need – and often their families will follow. The present aged care facilities available in Clermont include: •
High Care: Queensland Health opened a new purpose-built facility at the Clermont Hospital grounds in October 2018. This is a high care facility, built behind the existing MontCler facility that accommodates residents requiring higher levels of care.

In-Home Care: The only other option available to Clermont residents is to remain in their own home with Commonwealth Government funded services, such as Home Care Packages (where residents are provided with support ranging from domestic assistance, personal hygiene through to nursing care and other complex care, depending on needs). The services are consumer directed within a budget (subsidy plus client payment).
The Belyando Enterprise Network Inc (BENI) are making progress with the Seniors Living Project in Clermont. As part of the project, ongoing research and discussions have shown a recent increase in the ways that other rural and regional communities have found innovative solutions to aged care deficiencies. If you are interested in this project, please join us for a Community Update on Wednesday, November 27 from 4.30pm to 6pm, at The Grand Hotel Function Room. The new Library Management System, Libero, will provide improved online library services. Library patrons who use the online library services such as the online catalogue and digital collections will need to reset their password. Patrons will need to update their birth date details at their local library as it will be their default password when moving to Libero. To reset your password: Go to Isaac.libero.com.au Click on Member Services, enter your membership number as user ID and use your date of birth as the password (DDMMYYYY) to login.
