COUNCIL COMMUNITY CATCH-UP IN CLERMONT A workshop to learn about Isaac Regional Council’s role and responsibilities in disaster management will be held in Clermont next week. The Disaster Resilience Community Engagement Workshop will give residents an insight in how the Isaac Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) works. Mayor Anne Baker, who chairs the LDMG, said a member from Council’s Disaster Management team will explain Council’s role and legal responsibilities at Clermont Civic Centre Supper Room from 3pm to 4.30pm on Tuesday, 24 September 2019. “This workshop is an opportunity to find out about who the Local Disaster Management Group is, how this fits into the district and state level arrangements and what support can be accessed,” Mayor Baker said. “This is also an opportunity for the community to help further develop the Local Disaster Management Plan and to ensure capacity in responding to unfolding events. “This is part of a holistic engagement to all Isaac communities over a 12-18 month period to provide information for updates to the plan and sub-plans.”

LEGO ROBOTICS CHALLENGE PROGRAMMED FOR FUN

Tech-savvy kids across the Isaac region showcased their coding skills and knowledge in the ultimate Lego Robot Challenge on Saturday, 7 September.
“The teams all worked well together on the day and I am excited to see what the future holds for our Lego robotic engineers.”
Teams of children from Clermont, Dysart, Glenden, Moranbah and Nebo competed in the annual Lego Robotics Challenge, building their skills in science, technology, engineering, maths and teamwork.
Cr Nick Wheeler congratulated everyone involved for their participation in the innovative and fun program.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the creative and problem-solving skills that were learned for the challenge will continue to be an influence for the kids who participated. “Each year, Tech Fest provides a great opportunity to showcase the technology programs and opportunities available to our community,” Mayor Baker said. “It is a great day for teams engaged in the challenge. We see the fun they had working together and solving problems and the support from the mentors, families and members of the community who attended.
“Tech Fest is only made possible thanks to the efforts and commitment of Isaac Libraries’ staff and the volunteers and mentors who volunteered their time to help with the challenge.” “The teams, mentors and Libraries’ staff worked hard in preparation for this exciting event,” Cr Wheeler said. “Council is proud to play our part in supporting and encouraging children to engage with technology. “Isaac Libraries have so much more to offer than just books and I would encourage people to visit their local library to discover the great collection of free e-resources and apps available to everyone.”
PUBLIC NOTICES CATTLE DROVING ON KILCUMMIN DIAMOND DOWNS ROAD, CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise residents and users of the road network that a drover has been permitted under the Stock Route Management Act 2002 to be droving 1,700 head of stock along Kilcummin Diamond Downs Road through to the Wuthung Road:
All traffic travelling these roads are advised to be aware of the signage and slow down and take care around the cattle.

The network is utilised for moving large herds of cattle on foot from Council to Council and provides a valuable feed asset during times of drought.
The Stock Route Network within the Isaac Region is a valuable asset.
With much of the state still in drought, both graziers from within the Isaac region and from other areas are seeking much needed feed for their cattle to survive.
CLERMONT SPORTSGROUND EASTERN TOILET BLOCK CLOSURE Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents and sports ground users the eastern toilet block between the netball courts and main football field is closed until further notice. Council officers are evaluating the structural condition assessment advice recently received and will ensure the community is updated on any future actions associated with the facility. BABY BOUNCE, STORY TIME AND CRAFT The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a great way to connect with other parents with young children. BABY BOUNCE (0-2 years) Come along on Thursdays from 9.30am to 10am. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. STORY TIME AND CRAFT (0-5 years) This is held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 10.30am. Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.
FUN WITH SUN PRINTING Experimenting with sun printing is one of the fun holiday activities planned for the Clermont Library’s School Holiday Program that starts next week. Sun printing is a fun way of making pictures using paint, cotton fabric, everyday objects and sunshine. Other craft sessions include making boardgames and decorating bookends. This program aims to provide fun craft sessions for primary school-age children during school holidays. Sessions are limited to 15 places as this helps keep the sessions to a manageable and enjoyable level.
NEED A COMPUTER Did you know that there is more to the Clermont Library than borrowing books, audio books on CD and DVDs? People can use the public computers to access the internet, check their emails, create documents or spreadsheets at no cost. There is a small cost for printing. People can also have documents photocopied for a small fee and there are also scanning facilities available as well. You don’t need to be a Clermont Library member to use the computers, scanner or photocopier.

SPOTLIGHT ON JULIAN STOCKWIN English writer, Julian Stockwin has always had a fascination with the sea and joined the Royal Navy when he was fifteen. After his family emigrated to Australia, Stockwin transferred to the Royal Australian Navy and served with the RAN for eight years. He left the navy and studied at the University of Tasmania, graduating in Far Eastern studies and psychology. Stockwin’s wife, Kathy worked in journalism as a foreign correspondent and saw her husband’s potential as a writer. After being persuaded to give writing a go, Stockwin worked part-time as a lecturer while writing. Stockwin, who now lives in England, is well-known for writing the Thomas Kydd series.

Andrew Eaton is the Manager of the Clermont Saleyards. Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge with more than a decade of experience in saleyards operations including managing the Emerald Saleyards for seven years.

LIVESTOCK LEASING What Is It? Livestock Leasing is a product that has been developed specifically for the Beef Cattle Industry and allows customers to preserve their capital by using ours. As the cattle are used for the production of assessable income, Livestock Leasing may let customers structure their repayments to benefit business cash fl ow and taxation position. However, we recommend consultation with an Accountant for further advice in this area.
How Does It Work? Livestock Leasing allows you to finance the acquisition of a herd using the livestock as security. Pure Bred, Stud Cattle and Commercial Cross Bred cattle will be considered upon application. BOQ will not finance existing herds or a share of livestock. Only a Livestock Lease (Finance Lease) document can be used to finance livestock.
General Approval Criteria • Finance amount is restricted to a maximum of $500k • Must derive the majority of their income from livestock trading or breeding activities and have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Livestock Breeder or Grazier • Cannot be reliant upon the proposed income generated by the specific animals being financed for repayment capacity • Cannot be operating their core business in another industry and be seeking Livestock Leasing as a Tax Driven Investment
• All Livestock Leasing transactions are to go through a recognised Stock Agent and they must invoice the cattle to:BOQ Equipment Finance Limited, PO Box 3116, Brisbane QLD 4001
Repayment Options • Terms range from 12 months to a maximum of 60 months for Breeding Stock (Stud Cattle) • Interest Rate is fixed for the term of the Lease • Standard Residual Values apply as advised by the ATO, Tax Office Ruling IT213 • Repayments to be made in advance with options to pay monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, annually or by seasonal structure
Other Requirements Veterinary Certificates and Insurance: • For Breeding Stock (Stud Cattle) • Current Vet Certificates are required • Insurance must include:- Death (including calving death) - Theft - Loss of use or commercial incapacity e.g. permanent impotency, sterility or inability to perform due to accident, disease or illness. • For Non Breeding Stock (Commercial Cattle) - Only death cover is required
