Isaac communities commemorate Anzac Day Hundreds of people commemorated the Anzac Centenary at moving dawn and morning services across nine locations in the Isaac region on April 25. Mayor Anne Baker said young and old gathered to reflect on the service and sacrifice of Australian men and women who died or suffered in the great tragedy of war. “The strong crowds at local services held across the region reflect Anzac Day’s significance in the hearts and minds of all Australians.” “Together with veterans, servicemen and women, and RSL members, our communities marked this significant milestone in our nation’s history, the 100 year anniversary of the war in Gallipoli.”

“Anzac Day is the day we remember all Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations,” Mayor Baker said. “It was heartening to see so many young faces at the services and marching in the parades as we paid tribute to the ANZAC’s and their spirit of courage, mateship and sacrifice.” “We send our hopes to all those serving in current conflicts, war and peace keeping operations for a safe return to our shores.” “I am immensely proud of our community’s determination to maintain this special day to reflect on our freedom and ensure its meaning is passed onto our younger generations.”

“The commemorative services to honour our fallen countrymen were a credit to our local RSL committees and members, community groups, schools, businesses and everyone who contributed.” Moranbah RSL President Brady Cummins said the RSL was extremely happy with the turn out by the community. “The amount of kids that were at the Dawn service in Moranbah was amazing and shows the youth will remember them also.” “They were very special services that were fitting of such a significant ANZAC Day.”
