The Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) has partnered with some impressive training providers to bring to the Isaac Region a range of projects for small businesses to build their capability and capacity. The Isaac Business Support Program, funded by the Local Buying Foundation, was developed to offer opportunities to grow responsive, successful and sustainable businesses in the Isaac region. GW3 Isaac Business Support Officers have laid out a plan for FY20, through funding from different partners including Glencore, Anglo American, Adani, Qld Government, BHP and the Local Buying Foundation. This funding will help provide affordable training to businesses within the Isaac. In Clermont during August there are opportunities for businesses to build skills in Property Mapping and Marketing.

Monday 19 August – Property Mapping GW3 are offering a Property Mapping course in partnership with CHRRUP. Understanding natural resources and infrastructure is critical when purchasing or managing a property. CHRRUP provides GIS/ Mapping solutions which assist in planning and decision making. Information available includes land types, soil conditions, historic and current ground cover and property infrastructure. This course will provide attendees with the skills to learn how to map paddocks, waters and other infrastructure quickly and easily. QLD Globe Overlay information will be demonstrated which proves to be very useful for landholders.

Thursday 29 August – Master your Marketing This full day workshop presented by Vicki Smith from Concept Consulting will provide business owners with the knowledge of the fundamentals of marketing. Covering topics such as marketing building blocks, standing out from a crowd and digital marketing unplugged. This workshop helps small businesses create targeted marketing campaigns and learn helpful hints and tips for marketing individual products and your whole business. For those interested in a longer-term Marketing Mentoring program, this workshop will be a feeder course into the three-month program based in Dysart starting in September, which includes three oneon-one mentoring sessions and workshops. For the rest of the year the Isaac region will have a range of workshops and mentoring opportunities available across Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount, Moranbah, Nebo and Glenden. Available courses include: Marketing Mentoring, Business Strategy, Leadership Development, Digital and IT Development and Safe Station. PUBLIC NOTICES CLERMONT WASTE WATER MAINS CLEANING AND CCTV PROJECT CONTINUATION Clermont residents are advised Council will be continuing the waste water mains cleaning and CCTV inspection throughout the township as part of its commitment to improve waste water removal service quality and delivery. WHAT ARE WE DOING? Council has engaged contractor Relining Solutions to undertake specialised cleaning of waste water mains in Clermont and conduct CCTV inspection of all waste water mains in the township. The Relining Solutions cleaning process involves cleaning waste water mains using steam cleaning technology. Once the mains are clean a CCTV camera will be used to conduct inspections of all waste water mains.

WATER NOTICES SET TO ARRIVE FROM AUGUST 12 Isaac water users are urged to keep an eye on letterboxes for their water notices set to arrive from mid-August 2019.

Users can set email and SMS alerts and be notified of water leaks and high consumption within days of occurrence.

The water notices will be issued to more than 8,500 Isaac properties.

Ratepayers can sign up to online at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/miwater.

The payable water notice has been issued for the period 16 January 2019 to 30 June 2019.

1080 WILD DOG AND FERAL PIG BAITING PROGRAM 2019 A second round of baiting will be conducted during the period below to provide landholders with an opportunity to undertake further control of wild dog and feral pig populations. Currently this baiting period is scheduled for the dates below.

Monday August 26 to Friday September 20 Manufactured baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date.

Manufactured baits are supplied ‘at cost’ and are available for purchase through Council. CATTLE DROVING ON KILCUMMIN DIAMOND DOWNS ROAD, CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise residents and users of the road network that a drover has been permitted under the Stock Route Management Act 2002 to be droving 1,700 head of stock along Kilcummin Diamond Downs Road through to the Wuthung Road:

All traffic travelling these roads are advised to be aware of the signage and slow down and take care around the cattle. The Stock Route Network within the Isaac Region is a valuable asset. The network is utilised for moving large herds of cattle on foot from Council to Council and provides a valuable feed asset during times of drought. With much of the state still in drought, both graziers from within the Isaac region and from other areas are seeking much needed feed for their cattle to survive.

Children aged from 9 years are invited to attend an Immersive Technology Digital Taster session being held from 3.30pm to 4.30pm and learn about 360 videos, 360 photos, virtual reality and augmented reality.

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK Children’s Book Week will be held from 19 – 23 August and is a celebration of Australian Children’s Literature. Isaac Libraries will celebrate Children’s Book Week with Special Story Time events during the week. Many Isaac Libraries staff will also dress up as a storybook character. Clermont Library will hold its Children’s Book Week celebration at Story Time on Friday, 23 August from 9.30am to 10.30am. Story Timers of all ages are welcome to dress up as their favourite storybook character.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM Planning is underway for the Clermont Library School Holiday Program. This program aims to provide fun craft sessions for primary school-age children during school holidays.

Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.

SPOTLIGHT ON CHRISTINE FEEHAN Christine Feehan is an American paranormal romance writer who, as a child, frequently got into trouble at school for writing instead of doing the school work she was supposed to do.
