COUNCIL MEETING MAKES A MOVE TO MISTAKE CREEK The Isaac region’s decision-making forum will head to a small rural community near Clermont to provide residents an opportunity to connect with Councillors. For the past two years, Isaac Regional Council has rotated the location of its Ordinary Monthly Meeting around the communities of the region on a bi-monthly basis. Mayor Anne Baker said Councillors would like to invite community members to view the process of local government in action at Mistake Creek State School. “This decision is about improving representation, inclusion and community engagement, which are key principles of the Local Government Act,” Mayor Baker said. “We cover more than 58,000 square kilometres and our region is home to 17 very unique communities. “The tyranny of distance means it is not always possible for people to make it to Moranbah. We’ve held meetings in Clermont, Middlemount, Nebo and Carmila this year and to great community success.

“This will provide local residents and community groups a greater opportunity to engage with the full council, in addition to their divisional representative.” Division 1 Cr Greg Austen said the community is invited to join Councillors of the Isaac region for a free community barbecue at Mistake Creek State School from 12.30pm to 2pm. “There will also be a roads update during this community catch-up,” he said. Division 6 Cr Lyn Jones said this is a chance to come and meet your Councillors and talk about issues of importance to your local community in a relaxed setting. “There will also be a community barbecue in the Clermont Civic Centre Supper Room from 5pm to 6.30pm,” Cr Jones said. “We’d love to see you there.”

Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 24 September at Mistake Creek.

PUBLIC NOTICES 1080 WILD DOG AND FERAL PIG BAITING PROGRAM 2019 A second round of baiting will be conducted during the period below to provide landholders with an opportunity to undertake further control of wild dog and feral pig populations. Currently this baiting period is scheduled for the dates below.

Monday 26 August to Friday 20 September Manufactured baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date.

Manufactured baits are supplied ‘at cost’ and are available for purchase through Council. To book a date or for further information about this program please phone Patti Ruth, Administration Officer on 4846 3733 or Council’s Customer Service team available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).

CATTLE DROVING ON KILCUMMIN DIAMOND DOWNS ROAD, CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise residents and users of the road network that a drover has been permitted under the Stock Route Management Act 2002 to be droving 1,700 head of stock along Kilcummin Diamond Downs Road through to the Wuthung Road:

from 2 August to 22 September

All traffic travelling these roads are advised to be aware of the signage and slow down and take care around the cattle. The Stock Route Network within the Isaac Region is a valuable asset. The network is utilised for moving large herds of cattle on foot from Council to Council and provides a valuable feed asset during times of drought. With much of the state still in drought, both graziers from within the Isaac region and from other areas are seeking much needed feed for their cattle to survive.

CR JONE’S COLUMN Spring has arrived. Thank goodness. I am sure there are many of you that will be sad that winter is now officially over, but with the way time flies it will be back before you know it. Reasonably full fortnight of meetings, functions to attend and queries to be answered. First off was the Senior’s Luncheon which was held at the Leo Hotel this year. Beautiful food, great company and prizes to give away which made our Isaac Regional Council annual event a tremendous success. Sad to say I did my usual and won not a thing. Getting a bit used to this I can tell you. However, I was the lucky door prize winner at the Glenden Senior’s Event. I had a great time in Glenden as I usually do, and it’s great that I am actually recognised by some of the locals. Everything I talk about is always centred around food. I have just had to resign myself to the fact that you can’t go to all of these events and not eat. I suppose I could always ask for an ‘AXEL’ bag, but he doesn’t need the extra goodies either. Emerald once again hosted the Divisional QCWA and I was honoured to be asked to attend. It always amazes me just what the QCWA achieves. All the work they do and the monies that they donate to so many different causes is remarkable, and the ordinary person on the street has no idea that this is what they do. Far more to this organisation then just the scones and cream. Clermont hosted the Battle of the Mines on Saturday, 31 August and what a great day it was. Overall men’s winners were - Peak Downs Mine and overall women’s were once again the Clermont Huntresses. Two on the trot for the ladies. Well done to everyone who participated.

Little bit more excitement for our town is that Dr Sarah has opened up her medical practice and named it “Clermont Country Practice”. Clermont Health Advisory Network Team surprised Sarah with a bunch of flowers along with our good wishes. This I am sure will ease the doctor problems we have been having in Clermont.

Left to right: Trudi Liekefett, Linda Reynolds, Dr Sarah McLay, Jan Faulconbridge and Cr Lyn Jones By the time you read this the Isaac Regional Council will have had their annual staff get together. This year it is being held in Middlemount and all employees of the Council will be in attendance. It is a great opportunity to see some of the employees that we only see occasionally. Well that is about it for now, until next time … Lyn and a little help from Axel.

The workshop is about ensuring the community is aware of the risk, develop the Local Disaster Management Plan and ensure capacity to respond to events. BE PREFERRED SUPPLIER! Would you like to become a preferred supplier with Council? On 30 September 2019, some of the current panels of preferred or pre-qualified suppliers will expire. FREE EVENT - CLERMONT HEALTH AND WELLNESS EXPO This Saturday 14 September 9am to 5pm Clermont & District Services Club (RSL) 72 Herschel Street, Clermont The Clermont Community and Business Group (CCBG) with funding from the Isaac Regional Charity Fund are hosting an action-packed day of presenters from our local health and wellness businesses and services in the community. The Health and Wellness EXPO came about by Sophie, Kate, Lou and Jackie (community members), meeting with the CCBG committee to see what could be done to create awareness of the health services available in the community. From this initial discussion an EXPO was decided to showcase local businesses who specialise in all health services to share their services with the community.

We felt the EXPO would create a greater community awareness of these services and the information sharing will allow the community to spread the word to help themselves and others. See below for the agenda of presenters. FREE event. Presentations all day. We will have Lotta Lattes van on hand for light refreshments and there will be lucky door prizes drawn throughout the day. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

BABY BOUNCE, STORY TIME AND CRAFT DISABILITY ACTION WEEK Disability Action Week will be held from 15 -22 September. Disability Action Week will be the focus of Story Time at the Clermont Library on Friday, 20 September. The Clermont Library is wheelchair-friendly with ramp access to the building, wide aisles between book shelves and a disabled access bathroom. People with vision impairment can borrow large print books, audio books on CDs and digital audiobooks. People who may have difficulty in holding a book, can download and read eBooks on a device.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM Planning is underway for the Clermont Library School Holiday Program. This program aims to provide fun craft sessions for primary school-age children during school holidays. Sessions are limited to 15 places as this helps keep the sessions to a manageable and enjoyable level. Bookings are essential as this enables staff to ensure there are enough resources prepared for all participants and are an indication of likely attendance.

SPOTLIGHT ON MITCH ALBOM As a child, Mitch Albom wanted to be a cartoonist, then a musician. He played in several bands as a teenager before studying at university and graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in sociology. After graduation, Albom worked for several years as a performer then developed an interest in journalism. He returned to studying and graduated with a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, followed by an MBA from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. Albom then worked full-time as a journalist. In 1995, he regularly visited a former college professor who was terminally ill. These visits led Albom to write his first book, Tuesdays with Morrie. Tuesdays with Morrie was the start of Albom’s career as a writer of many international bestsellers.

The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a great way to connect with other parents with young children. BABY BOUNCE (0-2 years) Come along on Thursdays from 9.30am to 10am. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. STORY TIME AND CRAFT (0-5 years) This is held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 10.30am. Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.

BOOKINGS Bookings are essential for all library programs and events. Please call Clermont Library on 4846 3746. Please note: Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times when visiting the library, including during organised programs.
