Clermont celebrates best in beef A range of industry experts and producers from across Queensland braved the heat to gather at the Clermont showgrounds and saleyards for the third annual Clermont Beef Expo and Trade Display on Wednesday October 28. Mayor Anne Baker said Isaac Regional Council was proud to be a major sponsor and support the productive and sustainable industry that is helping to feed Australia and the world. “I would like to congratulate the event organisers Hoch and Wilkinson and Clermont Agencies for putting on a great day for industry.” “Also congratulations to all the award winners including local producer Peter Wharley from Reklaw Cattle Co who won the IRC Grand Champion Exhibit.” Mayor Baker said agriculture is a vital part of the Isaac region’s economy and way of life.
“Our farmers form a thriving $303 million industry in livestock, broad acre farming, sugar and fishing.” “Our crop producing and cattle country is among Australia’s most valuable, Isaac’s $212 million beef industry supplies 64% of the total gross livestock value for the broader Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region.” “Events like the Clermont Beef Expo, focused on sustainable production, are vital to our local producers”. A forum led by local cattle producer John Burnett at the expo addressed the ‘W.H.Y of Equity Partnerships’ addressing the benefits for producers and the agribusiness sector. The forum featured guest speakers John Kotzur, Partner at Hanrick Curran, Craig Price, General Manager Livestock at Kilcoy Pastoral Co, Mark Cook Managing Director of Cue Agribusiness, and Emma Robinson beef producer with her husband Michael Duckett, Mark Morton CEO of Practical Systems Ltd.

Exhibition wears heart on sleeve

Have your heart touched at a moving exhibition launch by DIGG IT Art & Co on Friday November 20.
Ms Zordan said she has been surprised by the sheer creative talent and innovative ideas on offer in Clermont.
Isaac Regional Councillor Barbara Stranks said ‘Heart on my sleeve’ includes the contemporary works of local artists Erin Zordan, Janiece Staier and Wendy Hallett and emerging artists Marcia Braxton and Sheree Murray.
“Despite experiencing economical constraints and logistical challenges most of these have been overcome via support and the generosity of people’s time to produce a polished exhibition.”
“These bright, honest contemporary paintings portray individual triumph over adversity and are a remarkable and incredible credit to these artists and tribute to the Clermont community.”
Proceeds of the fundraising auction and select items in the art sale will be donated to Clermont Artslink and RACQ CQ Rescue Service.
Event organiser artist Erin Zordan said the exhibition draws inspiration from Clermont.
Starting at 6pm in the Supper Room of the Clermont Civic Centre, entry is a gold coin donation.
“It examines the challenge faced by locals in remote and rural settings and the mental health issues arising from dealing with traumatic fragility.”
The exhibition was proudly supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund and Glencore.
“More than 50 bright, bold canvasses based on the theme ‘Heart on my sleeve’ explores this notion of vulnerability, distance, the distressing impact of an emergency experience.” “The exhibition expresses our belief that we all need to be rescued at some stage in our lives,” she said.
The Regional Arts Development Fund is a Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Isaac Regional Council partnership to support local arts and culture. For more information contact 0422 667 758 or visit www.diggiart.weebly.com

Isaac launches ‘save water, save money’ From 1 July 2016 saving water will save you money in the Isaac region. CEO Rod Ferguson said state legislation requires regions to take ownership of their utilities. “Isaac Regional Council is required to implement a user pays model for water by July 1 next year. “To minimise the impact of this change, Council is launching a ‘Save Water, Save Money’ campaign to provide tips and tools to help residents save water in and around their homes,” he said. “We want to help our residents and businesses prepare and to be on the front foot when the change comes.” “The focused campaign begins in November across television, radio, print and Council’s website and Facebook page up to June next year.”
“The campaign uses piggybanks fitted to taps, appliances, hoses and anywhere else residents use water around their home, to demonstrate how easy ‘saving water to save money’ can be.” Mr Ferguson said in a recent survey, 64% of Isaac residents felt they could do more to save water to save money. “Now is the time for residents to start thinking where their household could save and Council is going to provide a range of tips so the savings will soon add up.” “Outside our homes, we use up to 60% of our water, so following local water times in the early morning or evening and using a water timer will provide a great start.” For details visit www.isaac.qld.gov.au.
Nominate a young legend Help recognise our local young achievers by nominating them now for the Queensland Young Achiever Awards. THUMP boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.
