PUBLIC NOTICES WATER RESTRICTIONS ADVISORY LEVEL 2, CLERMONT EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 5 Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents that Level 2 Water Restrictions have come into effect as from Friday, 5 October 2018.

Current storage in Theresa Creek Dam, which supplies the local water treatment plant, is presently more than 1.25 metres below spillway level, which is the trigger for Level 2 water restrictions.

LEVEL 2 WATER RESTRICTIONS No watering on any day between 9am and 5pm.

Automated Irrigation System (garden beds only, no grassed areas).

Watering permitted 5am to 9am and 5pm to 9pm on watering days (as below) using a: hand-held hose.

Watering Days Odd numbered houses water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Even numbered houses water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Properties without a street number on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Water Tankers Mobile water tankers, other than tankers directly used for firefighting purposes, must not be filled with water from the water supply system except by way of exemption from Isaac Regional Council. Filling must occur via a metered standpipe only used on designated watering days in the specific time period as per residential use.

Applications for an exemption must describe use and volumes required. Exemption approval will be based on social, health, environmental or economic considerations.

No water to be used for dust suppression.

PARTIAL TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF CENTENARY PARK, CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council advises that Centenary Park will be partially closed from:

Tuesday, October 9 Until further notice Part of the park is surrounded by temporary fencing to isolate a roost of up to 4,000 little red flying foxes that have recently arrived.

The roost is away from residential backyards, in the trees on the south bank of Hoods Lagoon (corner of Capella and Lime streets).

Council will continue to monitor the flying fox roost and will provide the community with updates once a course of action is established.

Earlier this year Council trimmed some trees in the park to try and discourage flying foxes from roosting in the area. We are currently reviewing whether this has had any effect on the current flying fox colony.

We are also seeking feedback to help develop a Statement of Management Intent for managing flying foxes.

WATER RESTRICTIONS ADVISORY FOR MOBILE TANKER USAGE AT CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council advises residents in Clermont that water restrictions are in place and that mobile tankers require an exemption to fill from a standpipe.

If you see a tanker filling from a standpipe please note the registration number of the vehicle and report it to Council for investigation.

At present, there are only two exemptions are in effect for the purposes of providing domestic water for residential and accommodation use only. No exemptions are in effect for other uses.

Applications for an exemption must describe use and volumes required.

Tankers have the same restriction for days and times as residential users •

CR LYN’S COLUMN Thank goodness I have got some time to finally get my column done. It is Saturday afternoon and I am sitting in the office and sweating my butt off. If I could find the air conditioner remote I would probably turn it on. I have lots of things to talk about but I think I should write a list so that I don’t just waffle on.

Ornabella’s opening was a real privilege for me to do and I believe it is being well supported. Can’t say enough about the chocolate wafer biscuits that are sold there, they are great. I have convinced myself they are good for you, so am just eating accordingly. After all, if you buy them from a wellness shop they have to be good for you, don’t they?

Went to the Battle of the Mines football day with my great friend and relation Marg Schifcofske to spend a few hours. Eight hours on and we were still sitting in the grandstand and enjoying every moment (definitely will be taking a cushion next time). The condition of our ovals and grounds was praised by everyone, both locals and all of the visitors that I spoke to.

Wish I could have got to the Peace Pole plantings.

The Mayor informed me it was a fantastic event and I would’ve loved to have been there, but it was Talwood’s 100-year school celebration. All of my siblings spent some of their primary school years there so Kris, Charlie and his wife Helen and myself travelled the 830km to attend the weekend event. Talwood is situated on the Queensland-NSW border and is only 90km from Goondiwindi. We did a quick trip into Goondi and did a fair bit of reminiscing. We were all born there and the hospital actually sits on the bank of the river which just happens to be the border. Came close to being a Cockroach. Could not get over how fantastic the town looked as they had not long ago had some decent rain. It was reassuring to see that somewhere got some and that it has not forgotten how to rain all together. Actually the country side from about St George did not look to bad at all.

Got back late Sunday afternoon and I don’t think I have stopped since. Axel looks at me like I have abandoned him and actually makes me feel a bit guilty. He plays on this a bit because he knows he gets more treats out of me.

Council went for a bus tour and we got to see a solar farm, mine site and proposed meatworks site. Did not think I would ever see the day that I wore steel capped boots, hi-vis jacket, hard hat and safety goggles, but there you go, a first time for everything. All of this just to be able to do the bus trip, but rules are rules.

We had our annual Council staff gathering in Clermont late September. Penny’s Cafe did the catering for this event and I can’t praise her and her staff enough.

They did a wonderful job and made sure everyone was well fed.

Glenden was the destination for our monthly meeting in September. It is such a pretty town but like everywhere it could do with a decent deluge of rain. An open lunch invitation was given to the town and I have to say that I didn’t shut up talking to the residents for the whole lunch period.

I hope everyone remembers that water restrictions are in place so let’s all do the right thing.

Well it is just about time for me to have a cuppa and a chocolate wafer biscuit (that are really good for you) and give Axel yet another treat.

Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a government requirement when you undertake any nationally recognised training and you will be asked to provide it to the training organisation delivering the course to you before it begins.

You may already have a USI if you been enrolled in or undertaken any nationally recognised training in the past, or you may have one that you created a while ago and forgotten about it if you have not used it recently.

You only ever need one USI. It is just like a tax file number – unique to you and yours for life. Once you have created your USI number, keep it in a secure place or save it to your phone/device for future reference.

Who needs a USI and why?

SPOTLIGHT ON FIONA PALMER Fiona Palmer is a Western Australian author who lives in the small rural town of Pingaring, where she was raised.

Palmer worked numerous odd jobs before completing a secretarial course.

She then worked as a secretary in local government for three years and later, as a teacher’s assistant.

In 2006, while running a Pingaring business in partnership with her mother, Palmer began writing her first book, The Family Farm, which was the start of her writing career.

Her books have a distinct ‘Australiana’ theme and are best sellers.

This is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday.

STORY TIME AND CRAFT (0-5 years) This is held on Fridays from 9.30am to 10.30am.

Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.

GUT AND BUTT BLAST: is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps.

This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas.

Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

METAPWR: is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body, involving your upper and lower body and core muscles.

Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn.

The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat.

LET’S LIFT: this program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout.

This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights.

This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

CIRCUIT TRAINING: this is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program.

It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

METAFIT: this is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train.

Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.

FIGHT CLUB JIU JITSU Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art specialising in submission grappling.

It is a non-striking sport that promotes fitness, self-confidence, respect, flexibility and teaches self defence strategies.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes have now started for Adults and Kids (8+).

Both Gi and no-Gi classes are being offered.

SOCIAL TENNIS NIGHT A Social Tennis Night will be held on Saturday October 13 commencing at 5pm, following on from a very successful Social Day on Sunday September 16, when we had around 40 players.

This night is open to anyone in the community who may like to come along and have a game or two and a night out.

We intend to have a sausage sizzle on the night with BYO drinks if you wish to do so.

Kangatrainers are also trained in babywearing best practices and can help mums ensure the safest and most comfortable carrying positions for their babies.

TRX FLEX/STRETCH TRX flex incorporates strength through training, this class is capped at 6 people. 30-45 minutes.

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS Functional fitness trains your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports.

While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasise core stability.

STRETCH CLASS Improve the flexibility of your joints and muscles with our stretch classes. Stretching is a vital component in any fitness regime, whether you’re a fitness newbie or a professional level athlete, it can boost the effectiveness of your workout routine.

THUMP A 1 hour boxing for fitness class, boxing equipment is provided (gloved, focus pads, kickshields, etc). Inners must be work, these can be purchased from reception for $5 previous to beginning the session.

VIRTUAL RIP A high intensity strength conditioning class using barbell and light dumbbell weights. 45 minutes – 1 hour in duration.

VIRTUAL CYCLE CHALLENGE Revolution by group Rx is a cycling program that brings the outdoor ride – inside. Interval bases cadence training takes your classes through sprints, hill and mountains, to achieve results and personal goals.

Revolution is a 60-minute cycling program tailor-made for anyone who can ride a bike. This class is capped at 10 participants.

KANGA TRAINING Kanga training is a complete workout during which both cardiovascular endurance/flexibility and muscular capacity/strength are enhanced. Unlike traditional exercise classes, new mums need not worry about finding a babysitter or minding an unsettled baby during class because the babies are worn on them and get to be part of the action!
