Mayor Anne Baker said the competitions were held in Clermont, the Isaac Coast, Dysart, Glenden, Middlemount, Moranbah and Nebo.

were also evidence based, I thought it might be a good idea to turn this into a program for schools. Turns out it wasn’t just schools that wanted to hear this message! This time around we have Martin Heppell coming and his story reads like this:

Have you already broken your 2018 New Year’s resolutions? Do you want to make the most of 2018? Want to know how to live in the moment, and become the most resilient person you can be this year? Jugs, Jocks and Frocks is the perfect start to 2018. The Resilience Project is returning to Clermont in 2018 and ladies, this time you are invited! The runaway success of Jugs & Jocks in 2017 has given us the impetus to invite The Resilience Project back to town for all of us to enjoy. After listening to Hugh last year, we thought it was totally unfair not to get the ladies of Clermont involved in this fantastic project, hence Jugs & Jocks has morphed into Jugs, Jocks and Frocks.

For those of you who don’t know what The Resilience Project is – the director and founder Hugh Van Cuylenburg explains it this way: In 2008, I was fortunate enough to spend a few months living and volunteering in the far north of India. In this desert community, there was no running water, no electricity and no beds; everyone slept on the floor of their desert hut. Despite the fact these people had very little to call their own, I was continually blown away by how happy they were. It was this experience, and subsequent post graduate studies, that have led me to some pretty simple conclusions about the things that we need to be doing here in Australia if we want to be happier. In a nutshell, I learnt in this desert village that practicing gratitude, empathy (compassion) and mindfulness leads us to a happier more fulfilling experience. Once I discovered these three principles

Martin’s background is unique. He spent a considerable amount of time growing up in Borneo (whilst his father studied an Iban Dayak headhunting tribe). He was also educated in different parts of South East Asia. He is heavily influenced by the morals and values that he and his family were surrounded by whilst living with the Iban. After finishing high school in Melbourne, Martin spent 3 years in the AFL system, playing AFL football for St Kilda and Melbourne and then for Norwood in the SANFL. Subsequent years were then spent travelling the world backpacking for nearly 3 years, and upon return to Australia, Martin studied primary teaching. After completing his degree at Melbourne University, he commenced teaching at Auburn Primary. After 4 years, he was appointed as the Assistant Principal at Auburn Primary where he held that role for another 4 years – focusing on student well-being, educational leadership and cultural change. He has also coached AFL football at the Box Hill Hawks, and as First XVIII coach at both Carey Grammar and Xavier College. In all environments, he has thrived in situations that have presented challenges and have required optimism. He is passionate about children being given the opportunity to be raised in a positive manner that evokes confidence and a zest for life. In Hugh’s own words – “I cannot wait for you to meet Martin!!! You are going to love him. He is the most inspiring bloke I know”. Jugs, Jocks and Frocks is on Thursday January 25 from 6.30pm at the Clermont Civic Centre. Tickets are $30/person and are available from Clermont Pharmacy. Hurry now because space is limited and tickets are selling fast.

Game, set, match for hardcourts in Isaac Residents are set to make a racquet this summer as the $1.71 million refresh on Isaac’s hardcourts is now ready for action.

The Isaac Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program included: •

Clermont Sports Precinct’s six tennis courts, two basketball courts and one netball surface rehabilitated while two netball courts were renewed with new court furniture.

•

Dysart Town Centre Tennis Courts’ two tennis courts were converted into new car parks and the other two underwent court surface rehabilitation and new court furniture installed..

•

Dysart Centenary Park’s netball court 2 had its court surface rehabilitated and court furniture repaired.

•

Middlemount Town Centre had two netball courts and two basketball courts renewed and new court furniture installed.

•

“The 56 jobs created during the Isaac Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program are a direct result of this funding and a boost for the community.”

Middlemount Tennis Club’s six tennis courts underwent considerable works with four courts renewed, two courts surface rehabilitated and all with new court furniture.

•

Mayor Anne Baker said the project was a gamechanger for sporting facilities in Isaac.

Nebo Multi-Purpose Court received a renewal of court, court fencing and all new court furniture.

•

"Our tennis, netball and basketball courts received a much-needed revamp in Clermont, Dysart, Middlemount, Nebo and St Lawrence,” Mayor Baker said.

St Lawrence Tennis Courts 1 and 2 were renewed to multipurpose courts, with new fencing, furniture and lighting installed.

The Works for Queensland Program is part of the State Infrastructure Fund.

Works on 24 courts in five Isaac towns finished on Thursday, November 30. The Isaac Regional Council in partnership with the State Government delivered the Isaac Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program. The program was funded under the Palaszczuk Government’s 2016-17 Works for Queensland program. Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said Works for Queensland is about supporting regional councils to create local jobs and improve their facilities. “Works for Queensland is delivering jobs and giving local economies throughout the State a real shot in the arm,” Mr Dick said.

“With many of our residents currently involved in field sports like rugby, soccer and cricket, Council hopes the renewed courts will encourage higher sporting participation. "This promotes healthy and active lifestyles."
