PURE PEOPLE POWER TO HONOUR ANZAC’S SPIRIT IN ISAAC Standing shoulder-to-shoulder from the coast to the outback, Isaac residents will honour the nation’s most revered commemorative services this month. Residents are encouraged to attend dawn and morning services across nine towns in Isaac for Anzac Day services on Thursday, April 25. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the Isaac region will pay tribute to the sacrifices of diggers past and present. “We will remember the tenacity, resilience and heroism our soldiers have shown us,” Mayor Baker said. “We will honour the strong sense of solidarity, sentiment and pride as we come together

to remember the Anzacs and all those who fought for our country. “I encourage residents in the Isaac region to come together, not to glorify war, but to acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who contributed so much in shaping the identity of this proud nation, and those who continue to serve.” This year marks the 104th anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli. Council will host Anzac Day events across Isaac in partnership with local RSL groups and community organisations. Please see page 2 in this week’s Clermont Rag, for details on Clermont’s Anzac Day event.

CR JONES COLUMN Hasn’t the rain put a smile on everyone’s face. Last week when I went down the street everyone I met and spoke to and the ones that I just passed all smiled at me. I am pretty much guessing it was because of the rain and not because I had toilet paper stuck to the sole of my shoe. Our rodeo had to be cancelled due to wet weather, but it was just postponed and will be on again at a later date. More time for me to fine tune my rodeo skills (just joking). Had our hospital meeting last Thursday and it always amazes me the dedication and devotion that our local Director of Nursing has, not only for the hospital but to our residents in Montcler. Her job requires the patience of a saint, the energy of that little rabbit with never ending battery power and time management skills you would not believe. I truly do take my hat off to her. Last week also saw me attend the Annual Outback Sewing Retreat. Once again I was blown away by the number of ladies (and a few partners) who attended. They came from Port Douglas, Hughenden, Mackay, Charters Towers and Rockhampton. Most of these ladies travelled around floodwaters and made many a detour to get here.
All the ladies that I spoke to on Friday night and Saturday morning were overwhelmed by the generosity of spirit that we have in Clermont. I have always known this but it is always nice to have it said by strangers. Doesn’t the town and outlying areas look an absolute picture. Our Parks and Garden people do a wonderful job in making our town as attractive as it can be. Busy week for Council or Council-related meetings this week so I will be travelling back and forwards to Moranbah with meetings there and here. Not sure how Axel will get on as he usually sulks something fierce if he doesn’t see at least one of us for the day. I suppose he could come with me but I don’t think he would be appreciated in the boardroom even though I am absolutely sure he would be a good boy. What a lovely day it was for the Clermont Markets. Plenty for all to see and buy. Always a good morning. Notice the cool air in the early morning even more of late so I guess Autumn is here for a little while. Went to the football on Saturday night to watch the Bush Pigs with one of their biggest supporters – Marg. She probably got sick of me asking questions about Union, but if I don’t ask I won’t learn and as it is our one and only senior football team in Clermont this year I too will become a fan. Not long now and we will be able to open our new BMX track. Can’t actually see myself riding a bike on it but it will be fun to watch.
This event boosts our economy in Clermont no end; from the Hoey Moey, to Pennys and other local shops for providing food and accommodation, to the ladies doing a bus tour on Friday evening to Joy Wright’s sewing shop, then onto “Ornabellas” where they were given platters of nibbles whilst they shopped and lastly down to Sam’s shop “Vivians”.
School holidays are on so I bet there are a few parents hoping that the days all go off without too many incidents and if you have some spare time why not take the kids or any adults for that matter up to Montcler to have a chat with the oldies. They will appreciate the company also. That little rabbit I mentioned earlier will be a bit busy also giving out Easter eggs to the kids. Just what the parents need, kids hyped up on chocolate. Been this way forever and will probably always be. Let’s not forget Anzac Day either. Well that’s about it for this fortnight so until next time.....Lyn
IT’S ABSOLUTELY CRAB-ULOUS! MATT’S BACK FOR A SEA FOODIE FIESTA
A Queensland celebrity chef is set to serve up his so-fish-ticated passion for fresh seafood at St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend in June. Matt Golinski, who whisked his way around the Isaac’s premier nature adventure last year, is back with the Greater Whitsunday Food Network (GWFN) Farm to Plate celebrations. The 2019 GWFN Farm to Plate lunch and bus tour will showcase produce from St Lawrence and its surrounds, with a focus on fresh seafood from the Isaac coast including chili mud crab, barramundi and prawns. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the region is proud to whisk the former Ready, Steak, Cook star back to whip up some of the Isaac coast’s best produce. “Matt is an incredible and resilient human being and his passion for creating food and sharing his passion with us once again is absolutely crab-ulous,” Mayor Baker said. “He’s got a recipe for success and we are exceptionally proud to team up with Greater Whitsunday Food Network. “This is a seafood experience that will no doubt make those who miss out jellyfish.” Greater Whitsunday Food Network president Deb McLucas said Matt will be cooking up a storm for visitors and locals alike at Isaac’s premier nature adventure at St Lawrence. “Foodies can join in a full-day food sensation experience starting in Mackay which will then make its way to the award-winning Sarina Sugar Shed,” Ms McLucas said. “Then our foodies can indulge in a seafood lunch cooked by our celebrity chef Matt as part of the
St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend festival. “Visitors then can continue on to experience farm life in the Isaac, with local farm-gate stops and tastings.” The Greater Whitsunday Food Network Farm to Plate events are in their fifth year, with sponsorship and support from Reef Catchments through funding from the Australian Government National Landcare Program. This is the first time the network has teamed up with Isaac Regional Council’s premier regional nature event. The full-day food bus tour from Mackay to St Lawrence via the Sarina Sugar shed is $160. Attendees for the weekend festivities at the Wetlands Weekend can attend the lunch for $100. St Lawrence will burst into life with an immersive experience of creativity, education, family fun, live entertainment and mouth-watering food this June 7-9. Matt will join the line up with Costa Georgiadis, who is a presenter on ABC television’s Gardening Australia, will be digging into his field of knowledge to share at the St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend. Mackay band Mango Junction will be back again to rock the wetlands at the Bushman’s Dinner with award winning cooks the Bait Layers plus tours of the wetlands, historic town and bush skills workshops will spark the curiosity in festival-goers. Camping and caravan facilities are available onsite or stay in style in a glamping tent. Follow Isaac Regional Council’s Facebook page for when tickets go on sale on April 15.
PUBLIC NOTICES COMMUNITY ADVISORY Council has received an application from the Bob Brown Foundation to hire the Clermont Showgrounds from April 27-29. This application is for the purposes of accommodating participants in the organisation’s Stop Adani Convoy. A request has also been received from the organisation to utilise the Nebo Showgrounds for a short period on 27 April. Council is considering both matters in accordance with its assessment processes for the hire of community facilities. This includes consideration of the capability of both venues to support the activities proposed by the applicant. Council is also consulting with relevant agencies, such as the Queensland Police Service, which is protocol for large events.
