HARNESS PURE PUP POWER AND REGISTER YOUR BEST MATE Isaac residents are being encouraged to take to the lead when it comes to responsible dog ownership as the Isaac region has one of the lowest dog registration rates in Queensland.
It’s not a fur-fetched idea to register your best friend now.
One in every six households that has a dog in Isaac is unregistered, a figure which has sparked the Paws-itive Blueprint for responsible dog ownership campaign.
Those residents who have registered dogs can take advantage of Council’s 50 per cent discount until 5pm 6 September.
One of the three main characters launched by Council in July, Bark Vader will be lighting up social media screens by reminding dog owners about their obligations – especially with registrations throughout August.
Registration fees help fund the running of the Moranbah and Middlemount pounds, provide education programs on responsible pet ownership as well as help to find your pet if it is lost.
Mayor Anne Baker said the community needed to work together to ensure all dog owners are held accountable if their pets are found wandering and unregistered.
It also helps assist with animal management staff to attend to nuisance complaints, investigate dog attacks, and collect and return stray animals to owners plus the management of dangerous and restricted breed dogs.
“Not only is this a danger to public safety, but it makes it difficult to return animals safely to their owners without registered details,” she said. “Ain’t nothing but a pound dog if it’s unregistered – owners will be up for an impoundment fee and registration fee before they’re released home. “To avoid this, harness pure pup power and register, microchip and make sure your yard is secure and safe. “The great thing about registering is that if Council picks up your dog, rangers return them for free in the first instance. “When you’ve got your dog’s obligations on side, anything is paw-sible.” During August, Council is giving dog owners in the Isaac Regional Council area a fur-real deal – 50 per cent off renewal for your registered pooch.

For those registering for the first time whether they’ve forgotten or moved to Isaac, you’ll be able to qualify for the 50 per cent discount next year.
Residents can visit www.isaac.qld.gov.au/our-pawsitiveblueprint or their local Council office to fill out the registration form and make payment. First-time registration and outside the discount period for de-sexed animals is $52, during the discount period for a registered and de-sex dog is $26 for 12 months. Assistance dogs are free and declared dogs are $500. For a dog older than three months that has not been de-sexed is $104. The reconstruction work of Capella St footpath between Herschel and Box Streets has been completed, thanks to funding provided under the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland (W4Q) program. Just under 800 square-metres of footpath was demolished and replaced with an exposed aggregate finish, resulting in a honey stone and concrete colour for a pedestrian friendly surface. The upgrade of the footpath is following community feedback in 2018.

PUBLIC NOTICES CLERMONT WASTE WATER MAINS CLEANING AND CCTV PROJECT CONTINUATION Clermont residents are advised Council will be continuing the waste water mains cleaning and CCTV inspection throughout the township as part of its commitment to improve waste water removal service quality and delivery. WHAT ARE WE DOING? Council has engaged contractor Relining Solutions to undertake specialised cleaning of waste water mains in Clermont and conduct CCTV inspection of all waste water mains in the township. The Relining Solutions cleaning process involves cleaning waste water mains using steam cleaning technology. Once the mains are clean a CCTV camera will be used to conduct inspections of all waste water mains.

WATER NOTICES SET TO ARRIVE FROM AUGUST 12 Isaac water users are urged to keep an eye on letterboxes for their water notices set to arrive from mid-August 2019. The water notices will be issued to more than 8,500 Isaac properties. The payable water notice has been issued for the period 16 January 2019 to 30 June 2019. Residents are encouraged to pay before 5pm on 12 September. Council’s ongoing water consumption charging program is now in effect across all Isaac communities. Council has worked hard to keep this as a fair system to stop lower water consumers subsidising heavy users.

CR JONES’ COLUMN Well, the races are done and dusted. Emphasis on the word “dust” and the fact that here everybody is all dressed up to the nines and we still stand at the fence near the finish line and get swamped with dust. Who can fathom that one? It was a great day with a large crowd enjoying it from start to finish. Fashions were there in all of their greatness, and all I can say is that vanity really does win with a lot of the fashions. By the time I got home, I could hardly walk (due to several inch stilettos), and all I could think was “just how dumb am I?” I’ve got to say though; there were a lot of the males that were giving the females a bit of a run for their money. Very classy. It is a bit different from the old “stubbies, singlet and thongs”. I haven’t had to go to Moranbah for almost two weeks. Almost could have said that I missed driving over, but it was alright because I have been to Mackay twice in that time. This was great as it gave me a couple of opportunities to see Mother Huston. Gosh, I miss our time together, but I also appreciate seeing her as much as I can get time. The reason for one visit to Mackay was for Marg and Nick’s daughter Lisa’s baby shower. I look at Lisa and think about how it doesn’t seem that long ago that we were all sitting in Mother Huston’s lounge waiting for her to be born. Thirty-five years have just flown by, and in a few weeks she will start her own journey along with her partner Mark to experience the joys of motherhood and parenting. Hopefully, I will be with Marg to witness the event. Don’t forget the Senior’s Luncheon on 21 August at 11am. This free lunch is held at the Leo Hotel in Capella Street. I can guarantee the food as I dine there at least once a week.

Clermont Bush Pigs – congratulations. You have made the Finals and good to know that they will be held in Clermont. There will be plenty of seating available if anyone is at all worried about the closure of the grandstand. Let’s make it a great day and wish our one-and-only senior football team the best. Know that Marg and I will be sitting out there. We are just hoping that Lisa times her birth with consideration to the finals. Apparently we are in for another cold few days at the end of the week. I hope to goodness that this will be the end of it and we can get back to normal. Hot, hot, hot... Sorry if you don’t like the heat, but I find it very hard to function in the cold weather. The days are too short, and I feel like I should have been born a bear and just hibernate through the winter. Don’t forget it’s time to renew our dog’s registrations. If you have a dog or two that are not registered, now is a good reminder to do so. Just remember that if they do get out of your yard, they can be easily identified by their registration tags and returned to you. Having said that I need to apply for a new tag as Axel (or Houdini) has managed to lose yet ANOTHER ONE. Fair dinkum! If he received pocket money I would make him pay for his own. He came up to Montcler with me to visit the residents, and I am still amazed that such a large dog is so gentle with them. Sadly, we have lost two of our residents of late. They will be sorely missed by everyone. That’s about all until next time........Lyn

The Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) has partnered with some impressive training providers to bring to the Isaac Region a range of projects for small businesses to build their capability and capacity. The Isaac Business Support Program, funded by the Local Buying Foundation, was developed to offer opportunities to grow responsive, successful and sustainable businesses in the Isaac region.
Queensland Globe Overlay information will be demonstrated which proves to be very useful for landholders.
GW3 Isaac Business Support Officers have laid out a plan for FY20, through funding from different partners including Glencore, Anglo American, Adani, Queensland Government, BHP and the Local Buying Foundation. This funding will help provide affordable training to businesses within the Isaac.
Covering topics such as marketing building blocks, standing out from a crowd and digital marketing unplugged. This workshop helps small businesses create targeted marketing campaigns and learn helpful hints and tips for marketing individual products and your whole business.
In Clermont during August there are opportunities for businesses to build skills in Property Mapping and Marketing.
For those interested in a longer-term Marketing Mentoring program, this workshop will be a feeder course into the three-month program based in Dysart starting in September, which includes three one-on-one mentoring sessions and workshops.

Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.

MATER FOUNDATION 2019 SMIDDY BOTTLEMART CHALLENGE The Clermont Community is again hosting the Cyclists on the Annual “Smiddy Bottlemart Challenge” for 2019. This Challenge supports the Mater Foundation which makes possible, important ongoing Cancer Research. These dedicated riders will be in our district on the night of Sunday 25th, August 2019 and it would be tremendous if you would consider offering your hospitality to the Riders for this year’s Smiling for Smiddy event. Collect their billet from the Clermont RSL Club from approximately 4.00pm on Sunday Take them home to relax, shower, take care of their laundry etc. Then accompany them for a Community Dinner at the Clermont Golf Club. Primarily responsible for face to face customer service activities, daily duties will include customer service and advice, inventory control, cash handling and store hygiene. This role will also provide challenges with social media functions and promotional activities. If you are computer literate, have a background in beef production and horsemanship and a genuine desire to help local producers and be involved in a local community, then we want to hear from you.
