COMMUNITY FEEDBACK PLANS MONASH LODGE’S NEXT STAGE An engaging discussion has paved the direction for Monash Lodge’s future at one of the most historic towns in Central Queensland.
In March, Council resolved that service delivery and concept proposals would be considered when the process begins.
Monash Lodge was the centrepiece of aged care services in our historic mining and agricultural town of Clermont since 1990.
Division 6 Councillor Lyn Jones said the expressions of interest will also have portions of possible tenure options.
More than 50 residents who attended an InfoShare session with Isaac Regional Council earlier this year have voiced for a reinvigoration of the facility for the delivery of aged care services. Council, which owns the building that sits on Queensland Government land, will begin an expressions of interest round later this year to help re-energise the facility. Mayor Anne Baker said Council supported the strong community sentiment that Monash Lodge should be again made available for aged care purposes. “Monash Lodge is a fantastic facility that has served the community for many years and all stakeholders want to see it in continuing its role in community service,” she said. “We have listened, put your concerns on the record and we are working towards an expressions of interest process.”

“This being the Monash Lodge facility, with or without the vacant parcel of land on the same lot, and with or without expression of interest for the tenure and management of the Blair Athol and Frank Dennis lodge units and the requirement of any applicant to provide evidence of the sustainability of their submitted proposal,” Cr Jones said. “There will be more detail to this when we see who’s out there who’s interested to helping fill this gap our community needs filled.” If the process does not result in any acceptable proposal, Council will conduct another round of community engagement to consider options at that stage. A Monash Lodge expression of interest will be advertised in the coming months.
NEW ONLINE ENGAGEMENT PLATFORM ASKING ISAAC TO SPEAK UP

Mayor Anne Baker said by using the technology available to us, Council can continue to innovate the way it engages with the community. “The current atmosphere has made it more apparent than ever the importance of staying connected and engaging with each other when we can’t be face-toface,” Mayor Baker said. “Speak Up Isaac will provide the Isaac community with an online platform for engagement and consultation in a safe and supported environment. “Council will be utilising Speak Up Isaac for community consultation projects, community feedback, events, volunteer registrations and so much more.” Mayor Baker said the information provided by the community will help deliver projects and activities that they value the most.

COUNCILLOR JONES’ COLUMN Time for some more light hearted banter. I don’t think it hurts for any of us to crack a joke and brighten up the day for someone if you can. Have heaps and heaps of jokes but I fear with my sense of humour I would probably be the only one to find them funny. In my last Rag item I described some of my very early memories of Clermont and I urged everyone to do the same. I hope you had a crack at this as it really does make your brain work. One of my memories of my high school days was how I looked at a couple of my lessons - mainly from the outside of the class room looking in. I am fairly certain I never ever completed a full lesson in music and the same could be said for Religion instructions. Those many, many hours that were spent outside that door were some of the most reflective times of my life. In other words – very little productivity and a lot of gazing around. This is where I should mention quite a few of my class mates did exactly the same, however to save them the embarrassment I won’t mention any names. Not yet anyway. Funny how things turn out. I now live across from the school but when I was attending that school, many a time I had to walk home (and it was a significant distance) in the heat because I didn’t have the full uniform on, either - no hat, different length socks, shoes not polished, mind you it was a lot stricter in those days and in summer it did make sense to have your hat on. How many of us can remember Capella Street, The Mainy being any other way then what it is now? Its very unique bump, bump is known and appreciated by a lot of travellers as having its own quirkiness. For those that don’t appreciate its uniqueness then it really does only take a minute or so to drive from one end to the other. ANZAC Day. How different was it this year? No marching at dawn or our service later on in the morning along Memorial Way at the lagoon. It was still remembered by so many of our community but in a different way with a 6am vigil at the end of our driveways. Not the same I know but respect shown. I was very saddened to hear that the state of our cemetery had come under some criticism. Particularly around the state of the Gallipoli Pine trees in the Returned Serviceman’s
section and the general untidiness of the old section. This has been noted by Council and we will endeavour to make certain that the situation is resolved. Can you believe how quick the lagoon is dropping and how the lovely green grass is now turning brown. Our follow up rain just has not eventuated, however we just have to hope that it will come. Gosh, I was pleased to see that the grass at the lagoon edge has been mowed and all tidied up. Thank you once again to our Parks and Gardens staff who are still working flat out. Axel had a trip to the vets recently. Nothing serious, just a sore foot. He never ceases to amaze me at how much he loves going to the vet. We go in the front door and he immediately steps on the scales, waits for the digital numbers to stop, then he gets off. If only I could teach him to stay out of my bed then … I would feel suitably impressed. Councillor business is ticking along as normal with the help of technology. Most of the time it does do my head in but am getting better with the process. Computers and me have never been real friends, just acquaintances that I have to put up with. Thank you to Graham our Council IT guru based here in Clermont. He has certainly put himself out to make sure that my computer does not end up out my kitchen door. Montcler certainly did its best (thanks to Jules) to make sure ANZAC Day was well and truly remembered by the residents. Their skills were put to good use by the making of many craft items to commemorate the occasion. We also must remember that we have two of the Magnificent Seven as residents at Montcler, Mr Ivan Bettridge and Mr Roy Richardson. Well that’s it until next time. Lyn and Axel…
PUBLIC NOTICES CUSTOMER SERVICE COUNTERS AND FOYERS - SERVICE INTERRUPTION In accordance with Australian Government directive issued Sunday 29 March by the Prime Minister, operations at all customer service counters and Council foyers will be suspended from close of business, Monday, 30 March 2020, until further notice. Operations affected include: Customer service counters and Council foyers at Clermont, Dysart, Glenden, Middlemount, Moranbah, Nebo and St Lawrence.
Council recognises that these steps are unfortunate and may cause inconvenience, however, the decision to suspend these services indefinitely has not been taken lightly and is implemented in accordance with current Federal and State guidelines and in the interests of the health and well-being of our residents.
SKATE PARKS, PLAYGROUNDS, OUTSIDE GYMS, PUBLIC BBQ FACILITIES CLOSURES In accordance with Australian Government directive issued Sunday, 29 March 2020 by the Prime Minister, Council is required to close Council operated skate parks, playgrounds and outside gyms in public outdoor areas. By order of Isaac Regional Council, closures will include all barbeque facilities in public outdoor areas. Public park areas remain open however may change at a future date.
CAMPGROUND CLOSURES Following the Queensland Government announcement on Wednesday, 25 March 2020 in relation to the closure of all campgrounds in national parks, state forests and state managed recreation and protected areas, in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, Council is now also required to do the same for all Council-operated camp sites. The closure of camping grounds does not include residential caravan parks. People who have camp sites booked will receive a full refund for unused camping permits.
LIBRARIES, MUSEUMS, GALLERIES AND COMMUNITY AND RECREATION CENTRES - SERVICE INTERRUPTION Operations to Council libraries, museums, galleries and community and recreation centres will be suspended to meet the latest Australian Government directives from close of business, Wednesday, 25 March 2020. PUBLIC NOTICES CLERMONT WASTEWATER SEWER MAINS RELINING Clermont residents are advised Council will be undertaking repairs to the sewer mains within the township, as part of Isaac Regional Council’s commitment to improve wastewater removal service quality and delivery. WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Only some residences will be affected, as such prior to entry a formal notice will be issued by a Council liaison officer 2 days prior to the works taking place. WHEN IS IT HAPPENING? To minimise disruption to households these works will be undertaken:

COUNCIL ENACTS CLERMONT WATER REMISSIONS POLICY Isaac Regional Council has endorsed the application of the Utility Charges Remission - Extraordinary Circumstances Policy, as adopted on Tuesday, 17 March 2020 in response to the recent water discolouration event in Clermont. Residents have been granted to receive an annualised 17-day proportional rates remission for Clermont
properties which receive water consumption and infrastructure charges for the period between 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2020. This remission will be applied as a financial adjustment to the property owner’s next bill issued in the 2020-21. financial year.

ISAAC REGION COMMUNITY CHEST FUND - UP TO $10,000 The program is available for small to medium businesses located and operating in the Isaac region and is inclusive of sole traders and partnerships. This grant provides short-term business continuity and longerterm resilience assistance such as professional advice, diversification, re-establishment costs or paying outgoing costs such as bills and rent.
SPECIAL EMERGENCY COMMUNITY GRANTS OF UP TO $5,000 Isaac is a region in transition. It is a diverse and fiercely independent community which has had its fair share of challenging times in recent years.
Council has repurposed its 2019-2020 Community Grants program to provide direct financial assistance to the numerous community, cultural and sporting organisations in the region.
Now faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and short-term economic instability, our resilience and determination will be our greatest assets as we embrace change and chart our own course to a sustainable future during these unprecedented times.
Council acknowledges community groups may be experiencing financial hardship due to social restrictions preventing events or activities from being held which would normally be a source of revenue to fund recurrent expenses supporting the operations and memberships of organisations.
