CLERMONT SHOW CRACKS 150 YEARS A cracker-of-a-time was enjoyed at the 150th Clermont Show The Isaac Region’s Show, last week. From fireworks to dances, petting zoos to amusing rides, the Isaac region show was good old fashioned fun. Mayor Anne Baker said the 150 Year Dinner Dance was a highlight.
“Each year the show is driven by pure people power and showcases rural living at its finest. Primary producers were awarded at Tuesday night’s annual Beef Dinner, held as part of the three-day Clermont Show extravaganza. Local Clermont Councillor Lyn Jones said it was great to see local producers recognised at Tuesday’s dinner.
“Isaac Regional Council presented the Clermont Show Society with a plaque commemorating the 150 year milestone,” Mayor Baker said.
“Our cattle producers contribute millions to the beef industry and its producers like those awarded who are the backbone of our local economy,” Cr Jones said.
“Council is proud to be a major sponsor of the show and it was great to recognise our long-standing partnership.
“Congratulations to all the winners along with every hardworking producer who contributes to our region”.

COUNCIL LAUNCHES ONE-STOP EMERGENCY DESKTOP Isaac residents now have access to a one-stop desktop for information during emergency and disaster situations with the launch of the Isaac Region Disaster Dashboard. Mayor Anne Baker, who also chairs the Isaac Region Local Disaster Management Group, said Council was committed to ensuring local communities remained well-informed during significant natural events. “With 17 communities spread across 58,000 square kilometres from the coast to the coalfields, it is crucial that we maintain connectivity and information flows to residents,” she said. “Communication is a vital element of disaster preparation, response and community recovery, and the more barriers we can remove, the better.” Mayor Baker said the new Isaac Region Disaster Dashboard brought together a range of information frequently sought after by the community during disaster events at one convenient website.
“Instead of having to visit multiple sites to gather information on what’s happening, residents can now access much of this data direct from the dashboard,” she said. “This includes important updates from the Local Disaster Coordination Centre; road closures and conditions from Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads; power outages from Ergon Energy, weather warnings and radar imagery from the Bureau of Meteorology; and social media updates from Council, emergency agencies and support services.” Mayor Baker said the dashboard site was mobile device friendly for users on phones, tablets, laptop or desktop computers. “Importantly, this is a free service to the community, there is no need to subscribe or log-in to access the features of the Disaster Dashboard,” she said. SOAK UP WATER-SAVING KNOWLEDGE WITH MIWATER Householders in Isaac have tapped into water saving habits to help conserve the region’s precious commodity. MiWater, a website that provides water consumption information, has proved to be a vital and useful tool for residents since the water charging program began 12 months ago following a delay. Deputy Mayor Kelly Vea Vea has praised residents who have taken advantage of the free tool to help save water and save money. “With the growing demand, it is vital for Council to future-proof its water security, in the past 12 months we’ve invested a total of $28 million in water and sewerage maintenance and infrastructure,” she said. “This significant investment in water security for the region is important for residents today and tomorrow. “Conserving and maintaining water quality is especially important in Australia, the world’s driest inhabited continent. “We all have a part to play in managing our important resource.
“It’s not too late to sign up to MiWater and I encourage residents to adopt water-saving behaviours.” Cr Vea Vea said Council understands the economic realities for our region and the ongoing impact. “We have worked hard to keep this as a fair system to stop lower water consumers subsidising heavy users to comply with the Local Government Act 2009,” she said. “This covers the cost of owning, operating, maintaining and managing the water supply facilities and network across Isaac.” Isaac communities water notices will be issued for the period July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018 during late January/early February, 2019. Ratepayers can sign up to online at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/miwater. Users can set email and SMS alerts and be notified of water leaks and high consumption within days of occurrence. CR LYN’S COLUMN
Well, what a week or so of entertainment for Clermont and surrounding district. We have had the 150th celebratory Show which went down a treat for young and old. Congratulations to everyone who participated in any way to this event.
One of my favourite events at the show is the young people that judge the bulls. I did some presentations for that event and as usual I was very impressed with their knowledge and ease with which they handle these large animals. All of the functions that went with the Show this year were well attended and enjoyed by all. Now I know why I have a very extensive wardrobe of clothes and shoes. My feet are still suffering but you have to wear the right shoes for the different outfits no matter how impractical.
The Showgrounds complex I have to say looked totally amazing. This is mainly due to Manager Andy and staff. Well done! Winter seems to have hit us like a sledge hammer but I guess we do have to have some cold weather. I just checked on Axel and he is at the back of the office soaking up all the sunshine. I think I will take my cuppa out there and join him shortly. Friday and Saturday saw our Back to the 80’s concert here and both nights were well and truly booked out. It was good to see the local community get behind these type of events and show their appreciation to the dedication and hard work that all the cast put into it. This did actually remind me of the “Good Old Days” when we had Myalla Theatre productions in the Civic Centre. Gosh that’s really showing my age! I can actually remember participating in one or two of them when I was much, much younger. Oh well, time does march on. Until next time....Lyn

PUBLIC NOTICES 1080 WILD DOG AND FERAL PIG BAITING PROGRAM 2018 Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that a second round of baiting will be conducted during the period below to provide landholders with an opportunity to undertake further control of wild dog and feral pig populations. Currently this baiting period is scheduled for the dates below:
Monday August 27 to Friday September 21 Manufactured baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date. Manufactured baits are supplied ‘at cost’ and are available for purchase through Council. FREE GREEN MULCH TRIAL CLERMONT WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY Isaac Regional Council advises that residents will be able to access free green waste mulch for their gardens from the Clermont Waste Management Facility on:
The last Sunday of each month starting from Sunday April 29 between 9am to 1pm Residents will be entitled to two cubic metres of free mulch until 30 June 2018 or until the stockpiles are exhausted. The trial will assist in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill through the recycling of green waste as quality mulch. The use of mulch as a conservation tool to reduce evaporation and to hamper underlying weed growth is widely accepted. For safety purposes, the mulch will need to be loaded by a Council-operated loader and not manually by hand, so customers will require a suitable utility or trailer for collection. Any children or animals accompanying a customer collecting mulch must remain within the vehicle at all times. It is also a requirement that the load be fully secured and covered by a tarpaulin or similar before departing the site. Customers will have to show they have a suitable cover before loading commences. Customers wishing to collect free mulch will be required to accept the full terms and conditions of the green mulch trial at the Waste Management Facility Gatehouse prior to the commencement of the loading process. TECH BUILDERS WANTED Wanted- aspiring young tech builders for the 2018 Isaac Libraries Robotics Challenge Program. Expressions of interest are sought from children aged 9 to 16 years to form a team to represent Clermont in the Isaac Libraries Robotics Challenge. A team of up to 10 members will learn how to build working robots to solve problems and complete challenges. BABY BOUNCE, STORYTIME, CRAFT AND RHYMETIME The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. RHYMETIME AND CRAFT This is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. BABY BOUNCE Come along on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am, Baby Bounce is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.
SPOTLIGHT ON SHEILA O’FLANAGAN Sheila O’Flanagan is a successful Irish fiction author. She enjoyed reading and telling stories as a child and thought her future career would be in literature, but instead, worked in financial services. O’Flanagan wrote her first book in her thirties and sent it off to an Irish publisher. She was offered a publishing deal but only if she wrote a different book. O’Flanagan has written more than 20 novels, many of them best sellers.

RIP: A high intensity strength conditioning class using barbell and light weights. 45-1 hour in duration. Bring towel and water bottle. RIP EXPRESS is a 45 minute major muscle group workout. AXIS: Power to the core in 30 minutes. TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING: Every Suspension Training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants. THUMP: 1 hour boxing class. Boxing equipment is provided, inners must be worn and can be purchased for $5 from reception.
TRX FLEX incorporates strength through stretching.

Bookings essential. This is a virtual run class - follow the instructor on the screen. YOGA: A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. This class is suitable for pregnant women. Screening will be conducted prior to participation.
BOOTCAMP: A fun (mostly bodyweight) class run by Lockie. Based around cardio fitness.

GUT AND BUTT BLAST: Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. OPEN GYM: This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. LETS LIFT: This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.
METAPWR: MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. CIRCUIT TRAINING: This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
