AERODROME EXERCISE PASSES WITH FLYING COLOURS Isaac Regional Council has conducted an emergency exercise at the Clermont Aerodrome with Queensland Ambulance Service, State Emergency Service, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Police Service taking part in the event.
The scenario for the exercise was to simulate a ‘light airplane’ skidding off the runway after the front landing gear collapsed upon landing, with four passengers sustaining numerous injuries. In this simulation exercise the “light airplane” was a Mitsubishi Triton. Mayor Anne Baker said the aim of the emergency exercise was to test the on-site response of the services. “While it is not something we wish to happen, practicing our emergency exercise allows the various emergency services and Council to test the responses and capability of the teams to manage an incident of this kind at the Aerodrome,” Mayor Baker said. “Even though it was a planned exercise, the reaction time by emergency services to attend the accident and respond to the conditions and hazards was very good.” Volunteers from the Clermont Art Society were the “victims and bystanders” on the day, making the scene look realistic with fake blood and acting their injuries for the responders to consider during the exercise.

“I would like to thank the volunteers who gave up their time to assist in the exercise,” Mayor Baker said. “Many thanks also to the emergency services who participated to make sure everyone is practiced in the event of an emergency.” The exercise tested the Clermont Aerodrome onsite-response and the external emergency services capability to respond and manage an incident, from initial response to reporting. Mayor Baker said trained and operational responders were essential in a small community to ensure the maximum number of lives saved. “I am pleased the community of Clermont have the aerodrome facility to utilise when required, and emergency exercises like this are a great way to ensure we can provide a high-level emergency response.”

Words on pages of children’s books will spring into life through the magic of puppets. Mackay-based puppeteer Rosalyn Campbell will host free shows in Middlemount, Dysart, Moranbah and Clermont as part of Isaac Libraries’ First 5 Forever program. The Room on a Broom show will feature interactive moments for the young audience including re-enacting the story as it is being read, by operating puppets, making sound effects and working with props. The First 5 Forever program, a statewide initative delivered by Isaac Libraries, provides strong early literacy foundations for all children aged between 0-5 years.

The water notices will be issued to more than 8,500 Isaac properties. The payable water notice has been issued for the period 16 January 2019 to 30 June 2019. Residents are encouraged to pay before 5pm on 12 September. Council’s ongoing water consumption charging program is now in effect across all Isaac communities. Council has worked hard to keep this as a fair system to stop lower water consumers subsidising heavy users.\ Users can set email and SMS alerts and be notified of water leaks and high consumption within days of occurrence.

1080 WILD DOG AND FERAL PIG BAITING PROGRAM 2019 A second round of baiting will be conducted during the period below to provide landholders with an opportunity to undertake further control of wild dog and feral pig populations. Currently this baiting period is scheduled for the dates below.

CATTLE DROVING ON KILCUMMIN DIAMOND DOWNS ROAD, CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise residents and users of the road network that a drover has been permitted under the Stock Route Management Act 2002 to be droving 1,700 head of stock along Kilcummin Diamond Downs Road through to the Wuthung Road:
from August 2 to September 22 All traffic travelling these roads are advised to be aware of the signage and slow down and take care around the cattle.
The Stock Route Network within the Isaac Region is a valuable asset. The network is utilised for moving large herds of cattle on foot from Council to Council and provides a valuable feed asset during times of drought. With much of the state still in drought, both graziers from within the Isaac region and from other areas are seeking much needed feed for their cattle to survive.

GOLF NEWS There were no golf results for the 18th August but the club would like to thank Pam Pownell for sponsoring the day.
The Club hosted the Capella Scouts last Saturday and a good day was had by all, with a bit of rivalry between some fathers and daughters.
There was also no results for the 25th August the day was sponsored by Clermont Hydraulic, thank you Dianne Manley.
It was our normal shoot on Sunday, even though the numbers were low, because of Father’s Day a good day was had by all. The new Centre Fire range was also christened.
On the 1st September was a mixed draw for the John Jones memorial shield, this was kindly sponsored by Lee Gorden.

Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.

SPOTLIGHT ON PAULLINA SIMONS American writer, Paullina Simons was born in Russia and moved to the United States of America at the age of 10 with her family. She dreamed of becoming a writer and completed an early attempt at writing when she was 12 yearsold, in English. After attending colleges in America and England, Simons graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in political science. She worked as a financial journalist and translator before writing and releasing her first novel, Tully. Simons has since written 10 more novels, many of which have been international best sellers
