CLERMONT RAG FRIDAY JULY 6, 2018
Macy Lyons, Hannah Lyons, Abbi Lyons and Jorgie Mitchell are excited for the playground to open.
FAMILIES TO CREATE NEW MEMORIES THANKS TO COUNCIL’S LIVEABILITY UPGRADES Creating liveable spaces where residents in Clermont can enjoy with families and friends has been part of Isaac Regional Council’s list over the past 12 months.
“It is also used by community groups and schools who use the Sportsgrounds complex for functions and carnivals.”
As part of Council’s 2017-18 Building Isaac’s Future budget, a series of works have been completed in the historic town.
Acting Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said to complement Council’s completed a footpath renewal project at Hood’s Lagoon, funded by the Queensland Government’s 2017-19 Works for Queensland Program.
Division 6 Councillor Lyn Jones said from sporting grounds to newly installed play equipment, there’s a lot to enjoy in Clermont’s great outdoors. “We’re proud to announce the new play equipment and shade structure at the Skate Park is now complete,” she said. “Children and their families will be able to make new memories here with the new play equipment. “This includes a play tower, slide and track; and a two-bay swing set and the ground has sand soft fall and concrete edging.” Cr Jones said in May, the sportsground canteen and kiosk received an upgrade which included a new triple preparation sink and tapware, minor electrical work, internal walls sealed and made vermin proof. “This facility will be used by local and visiting sporting clubs including rugby league, rugby union and cricket,” Cr Jones said.

“The upgrade included more than 200m of footpath widening to cycleway standard,” she said. Cr Jones said the installation of new lights for the footpath are underway. “We are installing LED lights on the northern side; solar lights for the southern side; and pole replacement,” Cr Jones said. “New fencing was installed at the picnic tables and a new aerator installed in the lagoon.” Cr Vea Vea said while the region is rich in resources — its real wealth and biggest asset is its people and the lifestyle it brings. “It is clear Clermont’s future has an optimistic and motivated outlook,” she said. “We are investing in our parks and gardens to encourage healthy living and wellbeing.”

CR LYN’S COLUMN Well it has been a few weeks since my last chat and every week is becoming busier than the last. I have almost forgotten what I did in my previous life before I became your Councillor. Fairly sure it had something to do with trucks or this is what Straw tells me. There have been quite a few functions that I have gone to recently. Patch workers and quilters held their annual cent sale. I arrived late and won my usual amount of prizes. Yep, you guessed it – zero. However I did get to see some of the prizes that the residents of Monash Lodge won and, I have to say, I was rather envious and impressed at the beautiful work that the ladies do. The pony club’s camp draft has also come and gone for another year. I am going to declare that I was a lot less nervous this year while handing out ribbons to all of the winners. Think I may be getting a little more used to being so close to the horses. Still think I need to wear steel capped boots for the occasion. Now, I have had a few people mention to me about the number of trees that have been cut down around our town of late. Let me reassure everyone that the only trees that have been cut down have been either diseased or riddled with white ants. Much better to have them removed than fall on I joined the residents of Monash Lodge on a morning tea someone or their vehicles. outing to Theresa Creek Dam recently The walk around the lagoon is such a pleasure more so now since the boardwalk is opened and the paths widened in some sections. I don’t tend to take Axel on the paths very often as has almost dragged me into the water on several occasions and it’s too cold for a dip in the laggy at the moment.
I always thought that the older you get the more time you should have to do the things you never had the time to do. That’s another theory that has been proved to be wrong. Well that’s it until next time ... Lyn
Half the year has gone already. Where did the time go? I am sure the universe is moving quicker and quicker.
