CLERMONT RAG FRIDAY MAY 04, 2018

Scott Hensley, representing the proud history of the light horsemen, leads the Anzac Day Parade.

ANZACS HONOURED ACROSS ISAAC A strong sense of solidarity and sentiment honoured the memory of our Anzacs with over 16 services held across Isaac.

“In pausing to commemorate those who have served and sacrificed, our thoughts also go out to those who are still serving on the frontlines.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker offered solemn recognition toward those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

“To our army, air force and navy personnel presently on active service overseas, those supporting them and the families who are waiting for their loved ones to return.”

“The names of fallen soldiers are not only etched in bronze and stone on memorials across Isaac, but also in the collective consciousness of a grateful nation,” Mayor Baker said. “Anzac Day remains a defining moment in the shared history of Australia and New Zealand. “That legacy lives on, with the qualities of mateship, courage and sacrifice embodied by those first Anzacs very much defining our national character and what it is to be Australian.

The services were held in partnership with local RSL groups and community organisations. This year marked the centenary of the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux. On April 24, 1918, Australian troops staged a daring attack under the cover of darkness to recapture the town from German forces. Following a night of house-to-house fighting, Australian forces liberated the village by dawn on Anzac Day, 1918.

WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITIES LABOUR DAY CLOSURES Isaac Regional Council advises the community of the following closures of Waste Management Facilities for Labour Day:

Clermont, Dysart, Glenden, Moranbah, Nebo and St Lawrence Monday May 7 The Waste Management Facilities will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday May 8.

FREE GREEN MULCH TRIAL CLERMONT WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY Isaac Regional Council advises that residents will be able to access free green waste mulch for their gardens from the Clermont Waste Management Facility on:

The last Sunday of each month starting from Sunday April 29 between 9am to 1pm Residents will be entitled to two cubic metres of free mulch until 30 June 2018 or until the stockpiles are exhausted. The trial will assist in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill through the recycling of green waste as quality mulch. The use of mulch as a conservation tool to reduce evaporation and to hamper underlying weed growth is widely accepted. For safety purposes, the mulch will need to be loaded by a Council-operated loader and not manually by hand, so customers will require a suitable utility or trailer for collection. Any children or animals accompanying a customer collecting mulch must remain within the vehicle at all times. It is also a requirement that the load be fully secured and covered by a tarpaulin or similar before departing the site. Customers will have to show they have a suitable cover before loading commences. Customers wishing to collect free mulch will be required to accept the full terms and conditions of the green mulch trial at the Waste Management Facility Gatehouse prior to the commencement of the loading process. If you require further information please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 ISAACS (1300 47 22 27). ON THE SHELF

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN MAY May is the month to celebrate Mother’s Day, the Clermont Show and National Simultaneous Story Time. Story Time today will be about birds. Mother’s Day will be the theme for Story Time on May 11. During craft, children will make a lovely present to give on Mother’s Day. Story Time will focus on the Clermont Show on May 18. National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) will be held on Wednesday, May 23 and the Clermont Library will hold its NSS event during Story Time on Friday, May 25.

HAVE YOU GOT?? Have you got an author or book in mind that you want but don’t know if it’s available at the Clermont Library? Ask the friendly staff about it and they will assist you with your query. If the book is not held in the Clermont Library collection but available at another Isaac Library, staff can arrange for a hold to be put on the book and sent to the Clermont Library. If it is an adult fiction or adult non-fiction book not held in the Isaac Libraries collection, staff may be able to arrange an Interlibrary Loan from a library outside the Isaac region. Library staff may also be able to arrange a collection of Languages Other Than English (LOTE) books from the State Library of Queensland, if requested.

SPOTLIGHT ON AUTHOR Donna Douglas is an English author, best known for the nursing-themed Nightingale and Steeple Street series. HEALTH, FITNESS AND SOCIAL FUN MAD ABOUT FITNESS Contact: 0448 007 263 Address: 41 James Road All classes and open gym are $15. GUT AND BUTT BLAST: Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. OPEN GYM: This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. LETS LIFT: This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

METAPWR: MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body, involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. CIRCUIT TRAINING: This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. METAFIT: This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
