MANY PAY TRIBUTE AT ANZAC DAY SERVICES Thousands attended 16 Anzac Day services across the Isaac region last week.
Anzacs very much defining our national character and what it is to be Australian.
Mayor Anne Baker offered recognition toward those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and saw the spirit of Australia was still alive in the people who showed up at services.
“We paused today to acknowledge all current and former members of our defence forces, the brave men and women who represent our country on a daily basis.
“The names of fallen soldiers are not only etched in bronze and stone on memorials across Isaac, but also in the collective consciousness of a grateful nation,” Mayor Baker said.
“We paused to honour the heroism, tenacity, and resilience that permeates through our culture today because of the sacrifices made for us.
“Anzac Day remains a defining moment in the shared history of Australia and New Zealand.
“We paused to remind ourselves that our Anzac’s thought this wonderful country of ours was worth fighting and dying for.”

CR JONES’ COLUMN It has been a few weeks since my last column and my gosh it has been busy. A few Tuesdays ago saw me attend a Council Meeting in Moranbah and then got back in time to spend the last part of the Youth Week celebration at the Clermont Pool. The event was very well attended by our local community with Matt, Hayley (pool managers) and family giving their all to make sure the kids had a great time and that they all remained safe. That week-end I went to Mackay to see mother Huston. It was lovely to be able to spend some time with her. I certainly miss her not living just around the corner. Budget Workshops have been the flavour of the month for April. Don’t know what I will dream about once we have the budget sorted. Our Mayor Anne Baker and I had a lovely morning tea at our local Men’s Shed. How great is it to see the shed being utilised by so many, but I am guessing that they can always do with more members. Got to say the grape fruits from the garden were jolly nice. Thanks for that. After our morning there, the Mayor presided over five brand-new Australians who pledged their oath to Australia in a very moving Citizenship Ceremony. It was a very proud moment for all concerned. Our work camp men have been busy of late doing some work at the showgrounds in preparation for the annual show. They all do a wonderful job and I hope that all of our not-for-profit organisations can and do take advantage of the fact that they are there to help in our community. Just make inquiries at the front desk at the council office for any information that you may need. Jules our favourite lady at Montcler saw to it that all residents had a wonderful Easter morning tea. All the residents contributed their skills in making the
beautiful Easter decorations that were on the table. Great morning tea by the way. I know - yet another morning tea, is it any wonder that a person just cannot lose any weight. The Easter eggs consumed did not help either. The family got here for the Easter break and it was lovely to have them home even if it was only for a few days. Just on Easter, I hope everyone did have a bit of a break and that you all had plenty of eggs. Hate to think I was the only one giving the chocolate companies a real boost. Axel has been up visiting the residents at Montcler. For such a big boy he is surprisingly gentle around our oldies. I think he knows that he must be careful around them and is very cautious. This took us onto Anzac Day. Every year I say it and I will say it again, how wonderful it was to see so many people both at the Dawn service and the mid-morning service. A bit of rain at both services did not detract the large crowd who showed their respect to our fallen. Lunch was attended by past and present representatives and their families at the RSL. Yes I know, more food. Thank you to all that provided the beautiful luncheon. Starting to forget what you do with a stove... I know you are probably wanting me to comment on the activities of last week-end. However, I am not going to. With the amount of media attention given to our town by the TV, papers and social media (Facebook), I feel that our town has just about had enough of it. All I will say is that “not all publicity is good publicity”. Well, that’s just about it so until next time .... Lyn

TRAINER AND ASSESSOR CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS contributed by Lou Power
Well-qualified trainers and assessors are pivotal to the success of Australia’s VET system. The requirement for trainers and assessors to hold updated qualifications will now come into effect on July 01, from the previously scheduled April 01, bringing the requirements in line with 2016 changes to the Training and Education Training Package. Skills Ministers agreed to delay the introduction of the requirements following feedback from the vocational education and training (VET) sector. The Standards for RTOs 2015 have been amended accordingly. The Department of Education and Training has advised there will be no further extensions beyond July 01. It is a trainer/assessors’ responsibility to meet the new requirements.
The Training and Education (TAE) Training Package was updated in April 2016. The core units of competency of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment were updated to include the ‘design and develop assessment tools’ and ‘address adult language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills’. The core units of the Assessor Skill Set were updated to include the ‘Design and develop assessment tools’ unit of competency. To ensure the VET workforce has appropriate skills in designing and developing assessment tools and identifying and evaluating LLN requirements, the training and assessment credential requirements have been updated in line with the changes to the TAE Training Package. Trainers and assessors may use this training to contribute towards meeting professional development requirements outlined in the Standards for RTOs.

MENTORS WANTED Isaac Libraries are seeking expressions of interest for volunteers to offer their time as mentors for the Robotics Challenge Program. Do you work in the engineering, IT or science? Do you have a great interest in coding and robotics? You could be a Robotics Challenge Mentor. Team Mentors will work with Isaac Libraries staff to guide and assist teams of up to six children. Mentors will help children learn how to build
working robots, to solve problems and complete challenges. Teams will be based in: • Moranbah • Clermont • Dysart • Middlemount The program will run from June

RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. BABY BOUNCE, STORY TIME AND CRAFT SHOW YOUR CREATIVITY The Clermont Show – the Isaac Region’s Show will be held at the end of May. The Arts and Craft Pavilion always has a wonderful display of entries from talented people from the Isaac region and beyond. Needing some inspiration for quilting, painting, mixed media art projects or want a few tips on pastel drawing or painting with watercolours? Inspired to enter the cookery section and need a recipe for a delicious sponge cake? Come into the library and check out the cookery and arts books.

KIDS CLUB - LIFE CHURCH
We shoot on the first and third Sunday of every month. Arrive at the range at 9.30am to commence shooting at 10am. Anyone who is interested in shooting rifles or pistols are welcome to attend.
Kids Club runs from 4pm to 5.30pm every 2nd Friday of the month during term time. It is for kids from Prep to Grade 6 and held at Life Church, 58 Capella Street.

GOLF NEWS Last Sunday the 3rd 4 ball qualifier was played. Thanks to Clermont Butchery for their sponsorship. Ladies winners were Beryl Maguire and Sandy Rieck, runner ups Shirley Harvey and Nyla McKay. Doug Lawrence and Braydon Mahoney were the winners, with Jamie Beale and Ryan Nunan runner ups. Pin shots to Jamie Beale, Alan McGuiness, Doug Lawrence and Bill Moller.
Parents are to sign their children in and out when bringing them and a registration form will need to be completed on your child’s first attendance. Friday, May 10 - Minute to win it. Fast paced games for a fast paced night. Friday, June 14 - What’s in the box? You don’t find out till the end of the session. You must protect your team’s box at all costs through all the games.
