$4.2 MILLION TO RESTORE 94 SECTIONS OF ISAAC ROADS A major government-funded project will see 94 sections of road, spanning a total of 65 kilometres, across the Isaac region restored in a $4.2 million works program. Isaac Regional Council has awarded the multi-million dollar contract to Epoca Constructions to be delivered through Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), jointly funded through the Commonwealth and State. The works, to be carried out over a four-month period, include restoration of unsealed roads, reconstruction of sealed roads and reconstruction of drainage structures. Seven road teams will be dispatched to work sites around Clermont, Middlemount, Dysart, Moranbah, St Lawrence and Glenden. Mayor Anne Baker said restoring roads in Isaac brings a crucial contribution to economic development and growth and bring important social benefits. “They are of vital importance in order to make the region grow and develop especially following severe weather events,” Mayor Baker said. “We expect a total of 40 employees to be involved in the delivery of the contracted work and we look forward to the contractors spending local and energising

our economy. Council has undertaken emergent works to date to ensure safety of motorists up to this date. “Road infrastructure is among the most important of all our public assets and we will continue our focus on making our road infrastructure more resilient.” Mayor Baker said traffic control measures will be imposed on all the sites. “We encourage motorists to take extra care when driving through roadworks – this is for your safety and the safety of the road workers who are restoring our roads,” Mayor Baker said. “Council has undertaken a series of emergent works to date to ensure safety of motorists up to this date. “This program is extremely important to our future and for our mining, cattle, transport and tourism industries.” The funding, which comes under the NDRRA’s Restoration of Essential Public Assets, is essential to restore the road network from severe weather events.
