STEP UP TO THE UPGRADED CAPELLA STREET FOOTPATH The Capella Street footpath reconstruction work between Herschel and Daintree Streets has been undertaken, thanks to funding provided under the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland (W4Q) program.
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Works For Queensland had a great track record of kickstarting jobs and investment in the Isaac Region, with the Council benefiting from $4.96 million over three rounds of the program.
Just under 800 square metres of footpath was demolished and replaced with a concrete and light charcoal finish, combined with an exposed honey-coloured aggregate for a pedestrian friendly surface.
“The Palaszczuk Government will continue to work with Isaac Regional Council to deliver new infrastructure that supports employment in the local community,” he said.
The works comprised of the eastern corner of Capella and Daintree streets at the Post Office, the western side of Capella Street between Hershel to Daintree Street and an accessibility ramp at Rose Harris Park. Mayor Anne Baker said the upgrade of the footpath came following community feedback in 2018. “Capella Street is the commercial activity centre of Clermont,” Mayor Baker said. “The community feedback allowed us to see what people considered the areas most in need of improvement and to design the surface to suit their needs.”

Division 6 Councillor Lyn Jones wanted to thank the community for their patience and input with the footpath. “The footpath was upgraded for aesthetic and safety reasons, while minimising disruption to the affected businesses and customers,” Cr Jones said. Mayor Baker said the upgrade was only made possible through the W4Q program. “Thank you to the Minister for Local Government Stirling Hinchliffe and the Palaszczuk Government for contributing $400,000 towards the project,” she said. “The works significantly improve the amenity of our beautiful town.”

NEEDLE LITTLE THREAD? SEW MUCH FABRIC IN EXHIBITION A travelling quilting exhibition is stitch-hiking its way to Isaac’s premier art space to put on a vibrant spread from August 1 until September 27. Coalface Art Gallery in Moranbah will present Reunited: A Queensland Quilters Inc State of the Art Retrospective which features a colourful selection of art quilts from past touring exhibitions.
There will be a fabric collage demonstration and sun printing technique workshop. This is a free events. For more information about what to bring and to book a place, call 1300 ISAACS (1300 47 22 27).
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the exhibition showcases a variety of quilting techniques. “Visitors will be able to appreciate the textile artform in all its myriad colours and styles,” Mayor Baker said. “It opens people’s eyes to the realisation that quilts may be artworks. “This exhibition and its supporting programming are helping to implement Isaac’s arts and cultural action plan by facilitating activities that build vibrancy, feed creativity, energise our communities and power our people.” Quilters, sewers and members of the wider general public are also invited to attend a travelling trunk show with Lajla Nystad and Christine Jones at the Supper Room of the Clermont Civic Centre on August 4. The trunk show will start at 10am and finish at 3pm.

PUBLIC NOTICES CLERMONT WASTE WATER MAINS CLEANING AND CCTV PROJECT CONTINUATION Clermont residents are advised Council will be continuing the waste water mains cleaning and CCTV inspection throughout the township as part of its commitment to improve waste water removal service quality and delivery. Council has engaged contractor Relining Solutions to undertake specialised cleaning of waste water mains in Clermont and conduct CCTV inspection of all waste water mains in the township. The Relining Solutions cleaning process involves cleaning waste water mains using steam cleaning technology. Once the mains are clean a CCTV camera will be used to conduct inspections of all waste water mains.

BABY BOUNCE, STORY TIME AND CRAFT BE ‘PAWS-ITIVE’ WITH DOG OWNERSHIP Have you seen the council’s public awareness campaign about responsible dog ownership? Owning a dog is a ‘paws-itive’ and rewarding experience but sometimes you may not understand your dog’s behavior and find your canine friend needs ‘time out’. The Clermont Library has books on understanding dog behavior, training dogs, how dogs help people, adventures of dogs and more.
The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a great way to connect with other parents with young children. BABY BOUNCE (0-2 years) Come along on Thursdays from 9.30am to 10am. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Susan Kyle worked as a journalist for 16 years before writing fiction.
The ‘Pop Up @ The Park’ will include a Story Time session that starts at 9.50am. Please bring along sunscreen, hat and water bottle. The First 5 Forever program, a state-wide initiative delivered by Isaac Libraries, provides strong early literacy foundations for all children aged between zero to five years.
She has also written under the names of Susan Kyle, Susan S Kyle, Diana Blayne and Katie Currie. Susan has had more than 150 books in print, many translated and published around the world. Her novel Diamond Girl was made into a tele-movie in 1988.
