IT’S ALL ABOUT YOUTH - #ISOCREATE INSPIRES DOZENS Ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness are in high supply among the youth of Isaac, as 176 participants got involved in the #isocreate competition celebrating Queensland Youth Week, 1-9 April.

“Congratulations to everyone who submitted their work – electronically – and participated in #isocreate. Times might be tough, but our youth are resilient and worth celebrating.

Participants had #isocreate kits delivered contactless to their door, filled with 15 different items to develop a product, make an invention, create artwork, design a display, build a costume, make a game or anything they could imagine, with items sourced from local Isaac businesses.

“And a big congratulations to our winner and runners up.”

Isaac Regional Council CEO Gary Stevenson PSM said the response was phenomenal, showcasing the resilient and creative nature of the youth across the Isaac region during these trying times. “We had an unprecedented number of youth registering for their #isocreate kits, and what they created has blown me away,” Mr Stevenson said. “From model aeroplanes and artwork to board games and everything in between, we can rest assured we have a great generation of inventors and creators coming up through the ranks.”

CLERMONT MEALS ON WHEELS Contributed by the Clermont Meals on Wheels Committee Clermont Meals on Wheels was incorporated on 27 June, 1988 and is a not-for-profit organisation. It is a vital part of our community and has been delivering meals since that time. Over the years many changes have been made. At present we have 50 delivery volunteers and we are very grateful to have them. Meals are prepared at our local hospital by the kitchens staff five days a week. Frozen meals are available on weekends if you require meals seven days a week. These meals are delivered by our band of local volunteers to approximately 18 clients. These numbers vary from week to week depending on daily needs of our clients. For some of our clients this in the only daily contact that they have with others. No doctors referral is required if you wish to receive meals. A telephone call to one of our committee members by your self or the community nurse is all that is required. There is no specific age group that can receive these meals. If you have been unwell, recently released from hospital or have had an accident and can’t cook for yourself then we are only to pleased to assist.

Each daily meal consists of soup, hot main meal and dessert. Juice is also available on Mondays with your daily delivery. All meals are required to be placed in approved packaging and then placed in individual eskies for delivery, for which our Association pays for. Cost of these meals is $9.00 per meal and monthly accounts are issued to each client. Our Association is charged by Mackay District Health Service for each meal that leaves the hospital. We do not receive any government funding for these services. As we know, nothing is free these days and at present the Meals on Wheels car travels approximately 125 kilometres per week. Our Association owns this vehicle and we have the cost of the upkeep of fuel, tyres, registration, insurance and regular servicing of the vehicle. If you come across a fundraiser around town being held on behalf of Meals on Wheels please take the time to support us and your local community. PUBLIC NOTICES CUSTOMER SERVICE COUNTERS AND FOYERS - SERVICE INTERRUPTION In accordance with Australian Government directive issued Sunday 29 March by the Prime Minister, operations at all customer service counters and Council foyers will be suspended from close of business, Monday, 30 March 2020, until further notice. Operations affected include: Customer service counters and Council foyers at Clermont, Dysart, Glenden, Middlemount, Moranbah, Nebo and St Lawrence. Council recognises that these steps are unfortunate and may cause inconvenience, however, the decision to suspend these services indefinitely has not been taken lightly and is implemented in accordance with current Federal and State guidelines and in the interests of the health and well-being of our residents.

SKATE PARKS, PLAYGROUNDS, OUTSIDE GYMS, PUBLIC BBQ FACILITIES CLOSURES In accordance with Australian Government directive issued Sunday, 29 March 2020 by the Prime Minister, Council is required to close Council operated skate parks, playgrounds and outside gyms in public outdoor areas. By order of Isaac Regional Council, closures will include all barbeque facilities in public outdoor areas. Public park areas remain open however may change at a future date.

CAMPGROUND CLOSURES Following the Queensland Government announcement on Wednesday, 25 March 2020 in relation to the closure of all campgrounds in national parks, state forests and state managed recreation and protected areas, in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, Council is now also required to do the same for all Council-operated camp sites. This includes all sites within the Isaac region as outlined below: • St Lawrence Recreation Grounds • Carmila Beach • Notch Point/Yarrawonga • Lake Elphinstone • Mt Britton • Theresa Creek Dam • Flaggy Rock The closure of camping grounds does not include residential caravan parks. People who have camp sites booked will receive a full refund for unused camping permits.

PUBLIC NOTICE CLERMONT WASTEWATER SEWER MAINS RELINING Clermont residents are advised Council will be undertaking repairs to the sewer mains within the township, as part of Isaac Regional Council’s commitment to improve wastewater removal service quality and delivery.

Only some residences will be affected, as such prior to entry a formal notice will be issued by a Council liaison officer 2 days prior to the works taking place. WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?

FOSSICKING GENERAL PERMISSION AREAS GPA’S CLOSED Following the Queensland Government announcement on Monday, 30 March 2020 in relation to the closure of all Fossicking General Permission Areas (GPA’s), in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. Council is now required to close GPA’s which we have tenure of within the region on State land until further notice. This includes sites the below fossicking areas outlined below: • Flat Diggings GPA, Clermont • Black Ridge GPA, Clermont • Town Reserve GPA, Clermont • Museum Reserve GPA, Clermont

HAVE YOUR SAY - FEEDBACK ON CAPRICORN STREET CYCLE TRACK Isaac Regional Council is inviting feedback from the Clermont community for a proposed Capricorn Street cycle track. Council has been successful as part of the 2019-20 Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program by Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) for funding to develop a two-way cycle track. The 450m cycle track will start from the Capricorn Street – Sirius Street intersection and go down to the Capricorn Street – Kitchener Street Intersection.

Community feedback is welcome until 5pm on Friday, 8 May 2020.

COUNCIL ENACTS CLERMONT WATER REMISSIONS POLICY Isaac Regional Council has endorsed the application of the Utility Charges Remission - Extraordinary Circumstances Policy, as adopted on Tuesday, 17 March 2020 in response to the recent water discolouration event in Clermont. Residents have been granted to receive an annualised 17-day proportional rates remission for Clermont properties which receive water consumption and infrastructure charges for the period between 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2020. This remission will be applied as a financial adjustment to the property owner’s next bill issued in the 2020-21. financial year. Clermont Show - The Isaac Region’s Show Giant Pumpkin & Tomato Competition

I’ve tired of growing pumpkins; I just can’t take a trick. Now I’ve tried everything I know, but they still look pretty sick. So, I went to see Fiona down at Elders, for a lead, I did not want more pumpkins, did not want tomato seed. But she had grown tomato seedlings in punnets, ready to go. “Plant now!” she said, “There’s still time to be ready for the show!” Well, she caught me in the moment, I couldn’t believe my eyes, For there, in misty vision stood the “GIANT TOMATO” prize! I took a seedling home with me; I could not muck around. I found a tank down at the dump and set it on the ground. I filled it full of bullsh...t, to make that seedling grow, A little like this story, but all was good to go. Tomato watered every day, well, we were on a roll, It grew and grew, and still looks good, it’s enough to sooth your soul! The tank kept all the Roos out, the plant grew tall and strong. A net to keep the grubs off, what could possibly go wrong? The garden blooms with confidence, looks better every day. But now Corona Virus has stolen my dreams away! Because of this pandemic, there won’t be any show. But I say, “Stuff you, Covid!” We can still have a go! Side Show Alley won’t be here, and no fat cattle too, The ring events have all been canned, so now it’s me and you! There can’t be a pavilion, Stud Bulls are not the go. But big pumpkins and tomatoes, we should hold a “VIRTUAL SHOW”! Take a picture of your produce, this could be all the rage. Then send it to the Clermont Rag, and on the Facebook page. Just add a little story. (It doesn’t need to rhyme) Attach your name and where you live, and perhaps the date and time. All judge the “Ugliest Pumpkin” there, your ‘likes’ will be your choice, For with this isolation, Facebook will be your voice. And then the “Have a go Award” can be the best yarn spun Of all the ‘hard luck stories’, of the battles fought and won. Take your Giants down to Elders’ Yard, Show Tuesday is the Date, Fiona will have scales on hand to verify the weight, Then place the produce on display inside the compound fence, For Wednesday is Show Holiday, this town’s pride is immense. I know that we must isolate from family and friends, But you could help your neighbour through a telephoto lens. We know you’ve done the hard yards. You have planted, had a go. So now, let’s make it happen - A “VIRTUAL CLERMONT SHOW!!” Written by John Burnett

The World Trade Press junior databases are great for kids to research different countries and finding out the answers to questions about the world around us. Many families are homeschooling their children and a fun learning activity for the whole family could be to choose a country, research that country’s culture and then cook some traditional dishes – all with the help of World Trade Press.

A great opportunity has become available for an Early Childhood qualified Teacher to work as a Kindergarten Teacher at Clermont Kindergarten Day Care. Clermont Kindergarten Day Care provides a high quality early child care experience in their areas of operations. This is a position will commence August 2020.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of children and contribute their knowledge, skills and experience to the current Kindergarten Program. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain some experience, maintain their skills or further their career in the early childcare industry.

The position is being offered on a Full Time basis, 36 hours a week, with the expected working hours being between 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is planning day and hours will be 8:00am – 2pm. Clermont Kindergarten Day Care are willing to negotiate flexibility to secure the best employee.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to work in a team. Demonstrated time management and organisation skills. Ability to develop and implement a developmentally appropriate program. Demonstrated experience supervising children in early child care. Demonstrated knowledge of the National Quality Framework and its application to Kindergartens. Demonstrated ability to liaise respectfully with parents.
