Promising sales for Isaac cattle producers It was a promising sale for Isaac cattle producers at Clermont’s recent Prime and Store Cattle Sale, with 1912 head of cattle and 22 calves yarded and prices seeing higher returns than last year. Taking place at the Clermont Sale Yards on Wednesday February 18, the sale saw Weaner Steers topping at $248.2 c/kg and best of the cows at $205.2c/kg. The Sale’s Market Report shows prices came in across the board but were up from last year’s final sale, giving promising signs for the year ahead.
Hoch & Wilkinson agent, Jake Passfield was impressed on how prices held up considering the number of cattle hitting the market at the moment. “Considering the 1900 head local cattle being offered for sale, prices held relatively stable throughout the day. The quality of yarding was also very good,” he said. Isaac Regional Councillor and grazier Dale Appleton said the local confidence in the Beef Industry has picked up. “It’s good to see the market stabilising in a positive direction.
We’re all hoping this is a good sign for the year ahead,” he said. “There’s a new vet crush here at the yards and I’m glad that was ready to be put to work,” Cr Appleton said. Market highlights from the sale include: Gay Deaves “Mt. Commissioner” sold a quality line of Droughtmaster steers with the lead pen selling for 230.2c/kg weighing an average of 324kg to return $747.38/Hd along with a stylish pen of Droughtmaster heifers reaching to 204.2c/kg
with a weight of 281kg to return $575.16/Hd. Doug Finch “The Springs” sold a pen of Braford steers that made 220.2c/kg, weighing 396kg Av. to return a nice $873.46/Hd. Jade & Melisa Schafer sold a pen of steers making 221.2c/kg weighing in at 340kg to return $752/Hd. Sales at the Clermont Sale Yards take place on the second Wednesday of each month. The CLERMONT RAG Isaac sends support to communities impacted by Tropical Cyclone Marcia As Rockhampton Regional Council continues recovery efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Marcia, Isaac Regional Council is lending helping hands. Isaac Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Mayor Anne Baker said Isaac staff were enthusiastic to lend their support and skills to help their neighbours. “Around 20 Isaac staff with vehicles and equipment are being deployed to Rockhampton Regional Council over the next week to help with the cyclone cleanup efforts including removing debris from roads.” “The workers, from our land care, road works and SES crews are keen to help the devastated region in its time of need.” “Seven Isaac SES members, two vehicles and storm damage equipment are returned recently after spending five days helping the Capricorn coast with chainsawing fallen trees, clearing debris and tarping roofs.”
“I thank our staff for their dedication and commitment, particularly our SES members who are all volunteers.” Mayor Baker encouraged community and corporate members who wish to help our neighbours, to jump on the website www.givit.org.au and donate. Australian charity GIVIT is a grassroots charity that connects those in need with those willing to give. In addition to donated goods, Isaac residents can give money via the GIVIT website of which 100% is used to purchase essential items from local businesses. GIVIT always, wherever possible, purchases items from local providers to support the local economy as it also recovers. To pledge your donation or offer of assistance please visit www.givit.org.au.

CLERMONT RODEO COMMITTEE NEEDS YOUR HELP! The 2015 Clermont Rodeo is planned for Saturday 11 April at the Clermont Showgrounds. After rescheduling three times, to suit different committee members, the Annual General Meeting has not taken place. Unless a number of interested rodeo enthusiasts come forward by the 20th March, to assist with the running of this popular community event, it is possible that there will be NO CLERMONT RODEO IN 2015. With the introduction of contract stock for rodeos and the services offered by rodeo associations and contractors, there is not as much preparation needed as there once was, but one member cannot do it all by himself. The facility available for this event is possibly the best in the area and it would be most disappointing if the event has to cancel. Assistance is needed with the following: • Set up panels, tents and other preparation on Friday 10 April • Assistance during the event • Clean-up and dismantle on Sunday 12 April If you wish to ensure a 2015 Clermont Rodeo, please contact: Matt or Lana Doring on 0419 787 183 or doringcontracting@bigpond.com or CR&SS President, Les Flohr on 49 831 701 or les.flohr@bigpond.com

Library events calendar online To keep up with Isaac Library events go to www.isaac.qld. gov.au/library-programs ‘Call to Arms’ for poppy makers Isaac Libraries have put out a ‘call to arms’ to local communities to help make 500 poppies to commemorate the Centenary of the Anzacs. The Isaac Regional Library Service will start a regional program using the craft skills of library patrons and other community members to make 500 poppies for the Isaac Region. The Clermont Library will have a variety of paper, crochet, felt, material, knitting patterns and other craft resources for everyone to use in making poppies at workshops. We will be holding poppy making workshops on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3pm and Saturdays from 9.30am to 10.30am. Drop-ins will be welcome at any time. If you have a spare moment while in town waiting for the car to be serviced or feel like getting together with friends, grab a coffee and drop-in to make a few poppies. Young children are welcome to join in and create an easier version of a poppy.
The poppies will also be used to commemorate Remembrance Day in November. April 25, 2015 will mark the Centenary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops – the Anzacs – at Gallipoli during World War One. The Australian colonies came together on January 1, 1901 to form the Commonwealth of Australia but many Australians say Australia truly became a country following the landing of the Anzacs at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915. recognised as the best treatment during those years and was said to have saved the country from a national disaster.
International Women’s Day, held globally on March 8 each year, celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future
In support of local women and to build on the Make it Happen theme, the Clermont business group is having a luncheon today Friday March 6.
This year’s theme, ‘Make it happen’, encourages women to actively pursue their goals and aspirations, by developing:
Times may have changed since our pioneering and resilient forbearers fought for positive health, but the connections, confidence and engagement of current women remains as powerful, especially when it comes to being proactive about our health and the health of those around us.

connections to support, services and mentors, education and the confidence it instils, and engagement and collaboration with other women
To celebrate this international day, here are the stories of two inspirational women in Australia whose ‘Make It Happen’ attitude made a difference for the health of many.
And remember…. Protect, Prevent, Live Well
Mary McConnel (1824-1910). Originally from Scotland, Mary migrated to Australia with her husband in 1848 and settled near Moreton Bay. She was the mother of six children. When she was in an adult hospital, she asked to bring her sick son in for treatment, but was told children under five years old could not be admitted. Without treatment, Mary’s son died. She asked the Treasurer of Qld at that time for money to start a children’s hospital but was told it was a low priority. Mary worked hard for 15 years and raised money and rented a little house in Spring Hill which became the Hospital for sick children in 1878. She brought a matron and nurse from England as there were no children’s nurses in Brisbane. In that first year 105 children were admitted to the tiny 15 bed hospital. This service eventually grew to become the Royal Children’s hospital, Brisbane, which services more than 37,000 children each year. Sister Elizabeth Kenny (1880-1952). Elizabeth was a Darling Downs community member who began her nursing career by volunteering her services to anyone who called her, riding her horse to visit patients. She then served as a nurse in World War 1. After returning home to Australia, she worked with a Toowoomba surgeon to treat cases of polio with hot baths and limb movement, instead of the immobilisation methods used by doctors at the time. Many patients recovered. Sister Kenny received support from Qld government to establish clinics to treat long term polio cases in Townsville and Brisbane, which attracted interstate and overseas patients. However many Australian doctors did not believe her therapies worked. In 1937, a polio epidemic struck Australia and Elizabeth published a book about her treatments. In 1940, Elizabeth was invited to the US where she started a training school for therapists. A wave of polio outbreaks hit America during the war years. In 1946 Minneapolis suffered its worse polio epidemic and more than 2000 people died. Elizabeth’s ideas were

Class Description Gut and Butt blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Workout Of the Day (WOD) This is a board based program, working along the principles of H.I.I.T where you are able to come in and complete the workout in your own time. What is H.I.I.T? High-intensity interval training is a training technique, which commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of
exercise followed by active recovery periods. This form of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolizing fat at the same time. Open Gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. Lets Lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minute whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for every fitness level. Mad GRIT This is a 30min program incorporating core, strength and cardio based exercise, ideal for total fitness development. THUMP Boxing Is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.

The official season kicks off this Saturday, March 7 with the tee off times as follows – 18 Holes – 7am 9 Holes – 8am 6 Holes – 8.30am 3 Holes – 9am With so many enthusiastic little ones the committee are looking to utilize club funding and as well as grants and sponsorship to provide a number of opportunities throughout the season for development and coaching and have already made contact with professionals in the region who are very keen to get on board with the club to further enhance the skills of our juniors. Club President, Christian Verschoor spoke to the crowd of the importance of supporting the children by encouraging good sportsmanship and unity as a club as well as taking advantage of the upcoming coaching clinics and round days to gain more skills and experience. Parents are encouraged to read through the rules of the game before each round and to help their children gain an understanding to the rules and etiquette of the game.
