Theresa Creek Dam nominated for Tourism Award For its family friendly camping, excellent facilities and ‘dam fine coffee’, the Isaac region’s serene inland water destination, Theresa Creek Dam, is nominated for a Mackay Region Tourism Award, with winners to be announced in Clermont on May 1. Dam caretakers Kim and Peter Bont said they were adding to visitors’ experiences and looked forward to discovering more at the Mackay Region Tourism Conference on April 30. “We’re excited to be in the running for an Award, but we’re also looking forward networking with other tourism operators and learning new ways of building our business,” Kim said. “As well as keeping our facilities and grounds clean and tidy, we’ve added outdoor movies and we make sure our coffee is always good.”

“We’re having a bumper Easter season, fish and red claw are being caught and campers are making the most of this good weather,” she said. Theresa Creek Dam, located 22km South West of Clermont, is nominated in the category ‘Tourist Attraction’. Isaac region Councillor and Mackay Tourism Board member, Geoff Bethel said tourism was a growing industry and encouraged local businesses to attend. “The region’s Tourism Conference and Awards is a good opportunity to learn more, grow business and support our region,” Cr Bethel said. “Peter and Kim provide a great offering to our region and to our tourism industry. I hope they are recognised for their contributions and dedication,” Cr Bethel said.

The Mackay Region Tourism Conference, being hosted by General Manager Consulting at EarthCheck and previously from Tourism Queensland Mark Olsen, is at the Clermont Historical Centre starting 8am to 5pm on April 30. Attendees will be able to finish the day with sunset drinks at Theresa Creek Dam. The Gala Awards Dinner featuring country singer Tania Kernaghan is on Friday May 1, starting at 6pm in a picturesque, outdoor setting at Hoods Lagoon. Tickets are on sale now until April 22 and can be purchased by visiting mackayregion.com.au.
