Act now to save on rates Property owners have one week left to take advantage of Council’s 10% early bird discount on rates. The 10% discount for ratepayers and 30% discount for pensioners will end on Wednesday April 15. Acting Chief Executive Officer Graham Webb is encouraging ratepayers to take advantage of the discounts by making sure payment is received by Council on or prior to the discount date. “Some financial institutions can take up to three working days to process an electronic payment, so please check with your bank or credit union to ensure your payment is received by Council in time to secure your discount,” he said. “General rates contribute to the cost of vital community services in the region, including public facilities, environmental health, local roads, footpaths, bikeways, and much more.” Ratepayers are advised that Council rates and charges that remain unpaid after Wednesday April 15, 2015 will incur 11% interest, compounded daily.
To help with your online or over-the-phone payments please have your rates notice handy. Ratepayers who cannot make payment by the due date can apply to be considered for a payment arrangement. Nationally renowned milliner to bring Melbourne flare to local headwear Nationally renowned milliner, Waltraud Reiner, will bring a touch of Melbourne fashion to the Isaac region’s headwear, thanks to the latest round of Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants. Ms Reiner’s ‘Hatmobile’ workshops being held in Moranbah, Middlemount and Dysart in July will see novices crafting high-end fashion hats and fascinators. Mayor Anne Baker said the six RADF applications granted in round three would bring special workshops to the region including poetry, music and millinery. “I am particularly excited to welcome renowned milliner Waltraud Reiner, who will share her creative flare in hat and fascinator making, in time for our winter racing season,” Mayor Baker said. After establishing the Melbourne School of Millinery, Ms Reiner’s passion to share arts skills in rural communities saw her take to the
road with her ‘Hatmobile’ – a mobile millinery workshop. Mayor Baker said she was also looking forward to seeing the collection of portraits put together by Nebo photographer Davitt Ennis for his project ‘Faces of Nebo’. “Davitt and his wife Jennifer will be taking photos of local identities which will capture life in Nebo, to be published as photo book.” “This is a great project which will preserve our rich history and culture in Isaac for years to come,” she said. The Isaac Libraries Regional Library Services put out ‘a call to arms’ to Isaac communities to help make 500 poppies to commemorate the Centenary of the Anzacs and more than 800 poppies have been made across the Isaac Region. The Clermont Library has also set a goal of making 500 poppies for its Red Poppy display and are over the halfway mark. The poppies will also be used to commemorate Remembrance Day in November. Anzac Collection While visiting the Clermont Library to see the ANZAC100 Library Event exhibition or make a red poppy, take time to browse through the library’s Anzac Collection and borrow are few books from the Anzac Collection display. The Clermont Library has received many new books relating to the Anzacs, the Centenary of the Gallipoli Landing, the Battle of Gallipoli from the Turkish perspective. Public Notices Extension of 1080 wild dog and feral pig baiting program, round one Due to an increase in demand, Isaac Regional Council is extending round one of their free 1080 injected meat wild dog and feral pig baiting program for rural landowners. Round one will now extend for eight weeks until April 30. 1080 baiting programs will now occur during the following times: Round one Monday March 2 to Thursday April 30, 2015 Round two Monday October 12 to Thursday November 19, 2015 Landowners must confirm a booking with Council to participate in the above 1080
baiting rounds. If landowners are unable to participate in the above rounds and would like to conduct baiting programs, Council can supply pre-prepared factory produced baits. Orders for factory baits must be made in advance. Delivery of the baits is expected to be three weeks from date of ordering.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime and Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families. The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these sessions are a good way to connect with parents and young children. Bookings are essential please phone 4983 4746 or email Clermont.Library@isaac.qld.gov.au Rhymetime is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.

Pregnancy Pilates A low impact pilates class which focuses on pelvic floor, posture and general strength and well being for pregnant ladies who have been cleared to exercise during their pregnancy. Bookings essential. Pilates Level 1 Matwork 45 mins learn the fundamentals of Pilates in a low impact class for good posture, strength for pelvic floor, core and general toning. Mats required. SPIN/Revolution New equipment, great music and a fantastic calorie burning hour of indoor cycling. You’ll learn correct technique for improved performance and have fun cycling. Bookings essential. Revolution Express is a half hour session being added to the program in November all indoor cycling classes are moderate to high intensity classes. Class Description Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim
and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Workout Of the Day (WOD) This is a board based program, working along the principles of H.I.I.T where you are able to come in and complete the workout in your own time. What is H.I.I.T? High-intensity interval training is a training technique, which commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by active recovery periods. This form of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolizing fat at the same time. Open Gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. Lets Lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minute whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for every fitness level. Mad GRIT This is a 30min program incorporating core, strength and cardio based exercise, ideal for total fitness development. THUMP Boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.

Health Matters National Youth Week 10-19 April National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia. Part of their celebrations includes contributions from young people who share their stories and obstacles and how they overcame them. This is the story of 2014 Heywire winner, Trent Caldwell.
And when I woke up, the accident had brought on a shopping list of mental illnesses - epilepsy, ADHD, PTSD, anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder.
It was like my brain was saying things that I had no control over. I started attending a church, and was able to slowly ease off my medications. The best part was knowing that I was actually healing.
I started to self harm and needed medication and regular admissions to mental hospitals to keep me sane.
It’s now coming up to three years since the accident and I’ve become a youth mental health advocate here in Broome.
Me: What it really means to be tough
I couldn’t work, so chose to move to Broome to live with my mum.
As a teenager, I lived in a tough neighbourhood in the northern suburbs of Perth.
It took months but the relaxed lifestyle of the Kimberley started to help me .got well enough to get work.
I saw fights, drugs, and gangs fill the streets.
I loved my new job and my new community, but depression still made the smallest issue feel like the end of the world.
I got caught up in it, and was addicted to the danger. I thought living like this made me tough.
And I would sink back into depressive habits.
But my life turned on Good Friday 2012.
I needed help, not just medication.
I was 19 and down the park with my mates.
I needed to talk to someone.
It isn’t about how many dangerous situations you put yourself in. It’s about fighting through the trials life throws at you. It’s not about acting like you’re invincible; it’s about being brave enough to ask for help when you need it. If you ever need someone to talk to, remember that headspace.org.au, Lifeline 13 11 14, Kids Help Line 1800 55 1800, Reachout au.reachout.com and BeyondBlue beyondblue.org.au are all good places to start.
It wasn’t bolted in properly.
I decided to visit a Headspace youth health centre, even though I was pretty sure they wouldn’t be able to understand.
The goal post crushed my head, and instantly put me into a coma.
After all, even I couldn’t find the words to explain what was going on in my head.
My skull fractured in several places and I lost sight in one eye.
But as I talked I found myself saying things I had never even considered before.
I decided it would be a good idea to do chin-ups on a soccer crossbar.
I guess I have also learned a lot about what it really means to be tough.
And remember…. Protect, Prevent, Live Well
