Residents are being asked to nominate community members who make meaningful and outstanding contributions to the Isaac region.

Mayor Anne Baker said the annual Australia Day Awards were an opportunity to acknowledge and say thanks to remarkable residents.

“The Awards recognise people in Isaac communities who display exceptional dedication to making a difference.

“They celebrate outstanding achievements and acknowledge everyday people who make us proud to be Australian.

“Nominees can be from all walks of life from youth to community groups to senior citizens.

“We have three regional awards, and local achievement medallions across sport, culture and achievement for individuals and groups. I also am honoured to choose a recipient for the Mayor’s award in each community.

“The 2018 Australia Day Awards nominations close Friday December 8, 2017,” she said.

Mental health takes centre state at Charity Ball Tearing down the stigma around mental health hit the main stage as much-needed funds were raised at the 2017 Mayor’s Charity Ball last Saturday night, October 21.

Tearing down the stigma around mental health hit the main stage as much-needed funds were raised at the 2017 Mayor’s Charity Ball last Saturday night, October 21.

More than 250 guests not only enjoyed the glitz and glamour at the Moranbah Community Centre but openly shared their experiences.

The event, in its fourth year, has been championed

by Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker as the Isaac Regional Charity Fund Director.

Mayor Baker shared with dinner guests everyday things that make a real difference to people living with mental illness.

“Mental illness does not discriminate and is more common than we all think,” she said.

“Those in Isaac living with mental illness will often experience stigma and discrimination.

“These damaging attitudes can sometimes be a fear of the unknown or a lack of knowledge.

“So it’s important that we all have a better understanding of what people around us may be going through.”

Mayor Baker praised everyone who attended in raising money and awareness for mental health in Isaac.

“It was great to see on Saturday night people talk openly about mental health and what we can do to support one another in Isaac,” she said.

Mayor Baker said the money raised will directly benefit Isaac communities.

“Proceeds raised will be pledged to support local resources through the Isaac Regional Charity Fund,” Mayor Baker said.

“Working with generous sponsors, volunteers, attendees, organisations, community groups and charities to help raise funds and awareness of these issues have been some of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

“A huge thank you to all of the sponsors and guests of the 2017 Mayor’s Charity Ball and the hardworking organisers who put together a truly beautiful event.”

The elegant evening included a three-course meal, live entertainment by master of ceremonies Nigel the Entertainer, vocalist Kate Lockyer, cabaret singer Bek Andrews during dinner and headline act Mezzanine.

Mayor Baker said local businesses and organisations have sponsored the evening to support mental health initiatives in Isaac.

Isaac residents prepare to share to dream as Premier announces GC2018 Batonbearers Clermont residents are among the list of approximately 3,800 Australians revealed by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk who will have the honour of carrying the 2018 Queen’s Baton.

Residents will run and walk the baton across the celebration communities of Clermont, Coppabella, Moranbah and Nebo as part of its 100-day journey across the nation in the lead-up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Premier said the list of names, selected through a community nomination program, is a great reflection of Australia.

“The lists of names have been compiled by judging panels in each state and territory, allowing local knowledge to play the greatest possible role in the selection process,” the Premier said.

“The batonbearers recognise the achievements and aspirations of Australians from all walks of life, from ambitious 10-year-olds to humble volunteers and wellknown Australians from a variety of fields.

“Collectively, our batonbearers will take more than a million steps through every state and territory, sharing the excitement of GC2018 with regional and remote communities.

“There is a 90 year age range across the batonbearers, from 100 year old Bill Bruce from Nebo, to 10 year old Corbin Easton from Caloundra.

“In Queensland, there will be more than 1800 batonbearers, as the Relay travels to 83 communities over 33 days,” the Premier sad.

The Baton lands in Brisbane to start the final leg of its journey on Christmas Eve this year.

For one month during the school summer holidays, the Queen’s Baton will visit major events, iconic landmarks and children’s hospitals across the country.

The Baton’s activity during the school holidays and the street-level detail through celebration communities will be revealed on 17 November.

Since its launch from Buckingham Palace on 13 March 2017, the Baton has inspired athletes and fans across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas and Europe. Currently it is in Malaysia and is set to visit the remaining 15 Commonwealth nations in Asia and Oceania before arriving in Australia on Christmas Eve. It will be 60 years since a Baton first carried Her Majesty’s message to athletes of the Commonwealth at the Cardiff 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Wales.

Looks like November is shaping up to be a busy month in Clermont. The High School will have its presentations on November 15. Good luck to all those who will be accepting awards. Ladies and, of course, gents will be able to show off their finery on November 18 when the Clermont Races once again comes to town. This will be a great day as it usually is. Just keep in mind that at this time of the year it will be very hot. ICPA will celebrated 45 years on November 4. I am sure a lot of people in our district have used the services of this great organisation at some time and I am sure we all wish them well. Don’t forget that Council are taking nominations for Australia Day awards until December 8. Put your thinking caps on and nominate.

Public Notices Clermont Hardcourts - Works for Queensland Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program

1080 Wild Dog and Feral Pig Baiting Program 2017

Isaac Regional Council advises the Clermont community that construction on the Clermont Hardcourts Work for Queensland - Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program has commenced on:

Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that the baiting program for 2017 is scheduled as per the dates set out below. Please Note: Baiting will only be conducted during the below periods.

Thursday September 28 to Thursday November 30

Monday October 16 to Friday November 10 For this round of 1080 baiting, Council will strictly be delivering the following service provision:

6am to 6pm - Weather permitting

•

Wild Dog baits will be rolled.

During this construction period temporary fencing will be erected around the tennis, netball and basketball courts. There will be no public access to the construction site during this period, access will be restricted to contractors only.

•

Feral Pig baits will be injected.

Council and the contractors are mindful of residents needs and has programmed activities to minimise potential impacts and thanks the community for their cooperation during this construction period.

The Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair

‘Doggone’ factory baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date.

‘Doggone’ baits are supplied ‘at cost’. Factory baits are available for purchase through Council.

Temporary closure - Clermont Pool Isaac Regional Council advises the Clermont community that the Clermont Pool will be temporarily closed on:

Saturday November 4 8am to 6pm This temporary closure is due to a swimming carnival being held.

Temporary partial closure of Centenary Park, Clermont Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents that Centenary Park will be partially closed from: Friday October 13 The temporary closure is due to a roost of 6,000 little red flying foxes located in the trees on the south bank of Hoods Lagoon (corner of Capella and Lime Streets).

Little red flying foxes naturally migrate through our region from August to January and are known to establish temporary camps in residential areas.

Council advises residents not to disturb or attempt self-dispersal of flying foxes. Residents are reminded that it is against the law to harm or disturb a flying fox roost.

Council’s website contains answers to common questions around flying foxes at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/flying-foxes.

If you require further information please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).

Council will continue to monitor the roost and will provide the community with updates should there be any changes.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Clermont Gold and Coal Festival Committee will again host this year's Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon.

This will entail the sponsor contributing $25 per plate to fund the meal and contribute to the hall hire and drinks.

Last year's event was fully sponsored by local business, organisations, and community individuals in turn funding a beautiful luncheon for 110 of our local and district Senior Citizens.

Maryann and Steve Nicholson will be preparing the meal as they have each year.

To help fund this year's event we once again invite businesses, organisations and individuals to Sponsor a Plate.

All sponsors will have a plaque attached to the place setting with information about the sponsor and best wishes for the festive season.

TRX Suspension Training Every Suspension Training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once.

Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants.

Beginners L1 run Wednesday nights 6pm. A pair of inners to be worn under gloves can be purchased for $5.00 before class.

Yoga A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. This class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation.

BOOKINGS FOR YOGA ARE ESSENTIAL. $16.50 for casuals. $6.60 for children up to 14 years.

Power Yoga is not suitable for children under 10 years of age.

BOOT 45 to 60 minute fusion of cardio, strength, balance and flexibility.

Three levels of intensity to suit all fitness levels.

SPIN/Revolution You’ll learn correct technique for improved performance and have fun cycling.

Revolution Express is a halfhour session being added to the program. All indoor cycling classes are moderate to high intensity classes.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Metafit This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
