Cattle market’s optimistic picture painted An optimistic picture has been painted for Clermont’s cattle market with one agent adamant demand for beef to increase.
Isaac Regional Council’s cattle saleyards staged a solid May Store and Prime Sale in Clermont.
“Seems to be a fair supply of cattle on the market at present but as that lessens, demand should increase.”
Clermont combined agents sold 410 head of cattle, mainly from Aramac and Nebo, on Wednesday, May 10.
Highlights, provided by Hoch and Wilkinson, from the May Store and Prime Sale:
Isaac Regional Councillor Dale Appleton said Wayne Smith from family-run business Rosedale sold five cows and five calves at the sale, describing it as a record result.

The Salmond Family “Lestree Downs” Clermont sold Brahman heifers to 240c/kgs for 458kgs to come back at $1102.
•
Martina Hoch “Lake Huffer” Aramac sold Euro X Cows to 220c/kgs for 615kgs to return $1354 and the draft of feeder steers reached 317c/kg for 451kgs $1430.
•
Rob and Colleen Sturtzel sold Simmental X weaner steers 302kgs for 363c/kg to make $1096.
•
Michael Borg “Calveston” Clermont sold EU Gelbvieh X Steers 385c/kgs for 267kgs to come back at $1031.
•
The Finger family “Hillview” Clermont sold Simmental X heifers 220kgs for 320c/kg to return $705.
“It’s amazing to see our local producers get good prices like this,” Cr Appleton said. “Cattle producers in the Isaac region contribute $212 million a year to the beef industry, with agriculture the largest number of registered businesses in the district.” With all producers happy with the results, Hoch and Wilkinson partner Jake Passfield said it was a solid sale with good quality steers in particular in demand. The current market trends are looking quite positive with some good quality lines of young weaner sold to high demand. “There is a slight softening in the overall market due to supply and demand,” Mr Passfield said.

The weather is cooling down, the days are getting shorter. That can only mean one thing in the Isaac Region - it’s Clermont Show time.
Finalise your fine arts, polish your pumpkins, bake some biscuits, fertilize your ferns, organise your oranges or play music to your mandarins.
We are looking forward to seeing some monster-sized pumpkins again this year and checking out what a Giant Tomato actually looks like!
The Clermont Show Committee are in final preparations for a jam-packed three days of fun, entertainment and displays.
The Bull Bonanza – Commercial Bull Sale will be starting at 2.30pm at the Ladies Annex beside the main bar. This will see some of the best bulls in the region up for grabs in a Helmsman-style auction. Have a chat with your local agent for more information.
Gate entry prices for the Clermont Show have not changed for many years. Gate prices are the same whether attending for one or two days: $5 per adult, $3 High school students and pensioners, children under 12 free. Those who attend on Tuesday may use their ticket for free entry on Wednesday. Get ready for it all to begin on Monday with Beef Cattle judging as well as our Dressage competition in the morning from 9am sharp. This year, the Show Jumping has been moved even earlier and will begin on Monday morning at 9am. Check out this years’ Schedules at www.clermontshow.com.au for more details on when the events are beginning. Have you had a crack at this year’s new event – the Giant Tomato? Make sure your giant pumpkins and giant tomatoes are ready on Tuesday! Entries close at 11am and are to be delivered to the Heritage Building (brick building on top of the hill) ready for weighing and judging.
The 2017 Isaac Region’s Clermont Show has so many different entertainment options coming to entertain the crowds. There will be roving entertainment throughout the Show and Ranger Nick will also be there. Check out the horse riding trick rider that will leave you in awe. So, find your seat nice and early on Tuesday night and enjoy some six bar show jumping, some trick riding and then the awesome fireworks – how else would you rather spend a Tuesday night? After the fireworks on Tuesday night, we will again be holding our Young Farmers Challenge. Teams face four ‘farmers’ challenges and some entertaining obstacles’. This year will again be an event not to be missed – and to be involved in! Teams of four must be 18 years and over and be ready to face obstacles that are part of everyday life for many in the Isaac Region.

We will again have our travelling farm and don’t forget the pig races – and all the rest of the Show fun – show jumping, cattle events, ring events, working dog championships and trade & machinery displays. We will also have the dairy goats at the Show with some special milking demonstrations. Head up the hill near the Heritage Building to check this out. With so much fun to be had in Side Show Alley, there is more than two days’ worth of entertainment for the family to enjoy. Clermont Show Committee encourages all families and the whole community to attend the show to enjoy the colour and excitement of Sideshow Alley, as well as experience the huge array of local produce and the great entertainment. Isaac Regional Charity Fund supports care packs for domestic violence victims The Isaac Regional Charity Fund (IRCF) is supporting grassroots community organisations to deliver care packs to domestic violence victims in the region. IRCF has partnered with Emergency & Long Term Accommodation in Moranbah Inc (ELAM) and Clermont Community Housing and Other Services Incorporated (CCHAOSI) with assistance from and other organisations to make the project a reality. Isaac Regional Charity Fund Director and Mayor Anne Baker said violence against women is unacceptable and support must be given to victims.
IRCF has also partnered with Clermont Community Housing and Other Services Incorporated (CCHAOSI) and CQUniversity to deliver training to recognise and respond to domestic and family violence this week. The nationally recognised Community Services Training helped 17 participants: •

“ELAM identified that during this difficult time, they may not have been able to take any of their belongings and may not have funds to purchase essential hygiene and care items.
The sessions, delivered by CQUniversity and the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research training professionals, was held on May 1617 at the Moranbah Community Centre.
“These packs aim to provide clients with care packages in the first 24-48 hours following fleeing a domestic violence situation.
“The care packs and training is made possible through funds raised from the 2015 Mayor’s Charity Ball to help end domestic violence,” Mayor Baker said.
“These are women who have bravely left, sometimes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. These care packs are a way of showing them we care, they’re not alone and providing them with basic necessities. “Each May, Queensland marks Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.”
“Fifty percent of the $39,946 raised was donated to White Ribbon with the remaining being used to support worthwhile initiatives such as this. This outstanding result would not have been possible with the support of our generous supporters and sponsors.”
The funding will support four types of care packs: •
60 home packs including washing basket, washing powder, dishwashing liquid, dish cloth and toilet paper.
•
60 bath packs including shampoo and conditioner, soap or body wash, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, sanity items, and hair brush.
•
60 linen packs with towel, face washer, two pillows and pillowcases.
•
104 Children packs for children toothbrushes and toothpaste, baby shampoo and baby wipes. 50 of these packs will also contain $20 Coles gift cards to help with milk, bread, nappies and formula.

The RADF provides funding for local arts and cultural development and heritage projects. RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
Queensland Music Festival 2017 12 May 2017
Isaac Regional Council is requesting expressions of interest from stall holders of arts and crafts, food and refreshments to offer their services to cater for the large crowds expected to attend the Queensland Music Festival (QMF) world premiere musical spectacular to be held on Ted Rolfe Oval, Mills Avenue, Moranbah on Friday and Saturday 28 and 29 July. Each performance is free of charge to the public. Hundreds of local community members will star in an outdoor performance starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 8.00pm on each of those days. To deliver a more environmentally friendly event, Council advises potential stall holders that no polystyrene food/drink containers or disposable plastic water bottles are to be used. Stall holders must have their own power supply. Successful vendors will be contacted by 16 June 2017 Event Information Venue:

Join us for National Simultaneous Storytime
Are you a keen photographer?
National Simultaneous Storytime is back with this year’s book ‘The Cow Tripped Over the Moon’ by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood. Join the fun at Isaac Libraries this May.
The Colours of Isaac photography competition is open to people of all ages to show off their love for photography by capturing the Isaac region. The competition is run via Council’s Facebook page with the winners determined by public vote.
2017 Theme: Isaac inspires me because…
Photographers should submit photos which evoke a sense of wonder capturing an aspect of Isaac which inspires them. Entries open Monday May 22 until 5pm Friday June 2.
To Enter: Private message Council’s Facebook page with your image, full name and contact details. Please include the location the photo was taken.

TRX Suspension Training Every Suspension training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants. THUMP boxing for fitness 1 hour free for members. Beginners L1 run Wednesday nights 6pm. A pair of inners to be worn under gloves can be purchased for $5.00 before class. Boxing equipment provided for both classes. $16.50 per class, free for gym members. Indoor Volleyball Fixtures Thursday nights throughout Term 1 and 2 start times 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Tuesday Ladies Volleyball Fixtures Season 1 runs January to June. Game start times 9.30am. Yoga A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. This class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation. BOOKINGS FOR YOGA ARE ESSENTIAL. $16.50 for casuals. $6.60 for children up to 14 years. Power Yoga is not suitable for children under 10 years of age. BOOT 45 to 60 minute fusion of cardio, strength, balance and flexibility. 3 levels of intensity to suit all fitness levels.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Boot Camp Boot camp in the park does not only get you out of the house, but also the little ones. Each week is a new and exciting full body program.
No week is the same offering a variety and challenges for any fitness level. It’s a fun 30 minutes, while working hard on those fitness goals.
An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.
Pilates Pilates classes build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine.
Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45mins whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights.
Pilates has a focus on the core which can basically be thought of as the ‘powerhouse’ of you body, but also includes the pelvic floor and lower back. It’s a great low impact class for all ages. Spots are limited so please contact us to get yours today. Open gym This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. HIIT - High-Intensity Interval Training This training technique commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by active recovery periods. This for of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolising fat at the same time.
This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
