Isaac Regional Council has awarded 13 women from across the region with inaugural ‘Inspiring Women in Isaac’ awards.
“From young women beating the odds, to empowering business women to octogenarians who champion their local communities.
Award ceremonies were held at International Women’s Day events across Isaac (March 6 - 12).
“We received an incredible 56 award nominations for Inspiring Women and Inspiring Young Women around Isaac.
Mayor Anne Baker said she was pleased to recognise local women who were making a difference in the lives of others. “These awards are about thanking women who inspire, move and support those around them,” she said. “Every single award recipient has an uplifting and unique story.
“This is a fantastic response in our first year, and I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate. “Congratulations to each of our winners, you make your friends, families, communities and region proud.” Isaac Regional Council is proud to bring the Inspiring Women in Isaac awards and International Women’s Day to our communities.

Isaac Libraries hosts’ local author book launch Isaac Libraries is hosting Paula Heelan as she launches her new exceptional book sharing extraordinary real-life stories of governesses in the Australian outback. Mayor Anne Baker said the freelance photojournalist and author works from Ulcanbah Station outside of Clermont in Central Western Queensland. “It’s fantastic to see references to Clermont and district in Paula’s books and to host a national award-winning photographer and local author in our libraries,” she said. Outback Governesses with Paula’s other bestsellers, Australian Midwives and An Outback Life, will be available for sale and signing at the book launches in Moranbah, Dysart and Clermont libraries next week. Australian Midwives details real-life stories from thirteen Australian midwives working in the outback, where they share their experiences of that most commonplace but miraculous event, the birth of a child.

An Outback Life features heart-warming stories and stunning photography of rural Australia, and the extraordinary people who live there. An award-winning photographer, Paula Heelan captures the beauty, drama and romance of the outback in this stunning book.
Outback Governesses is a collection of eye-opening stories about fourteen governesses, teachers and home tutors.

Clermont water security one step closer Water security is one step closer with work beginning on Clermont’s Sustainable Water Strategy with Council endorsing the award of the tender last month.

Water security is one step closer with work beginning on Clermont’s Sustainable Water Strategy with Council endorsing the award of the tender last month. Mayor Anne Baker said it is great news for the Clermont community, businesses and industry. “It’s about providing water security and supporting economic growth for Clermont,” she said. “Council awarded the tender to AECOM Australia Pty Ltd to help produce a strategic framework to improve Clermont’s ageing water supply infrastructure. “AECOM brings a suitably qualified, multi-disciplinary consulting team to undertake the study. “This study is supported by funding from the Australian Government National Water Infrastructure Development Fund. “Council will commit up to $225,000 that will be matched from the fund, to develop this essential report.”
The feasibility study will have a focus on: •
evaluating the social, economic and environmental viability of potential new or augmented water infrastructure;

and inform investment decisions.
“This will enable Council to make the most cost effective and strategic decisions and responses to water issues. “This is essential to address existing limitations and risks, as well as permit potential growth.” “The strategy will cater for the continued development in the region’s mining, pastoral and agricultural industries. Council is committed to completing the study by the end of 2017.” The Australian Government National Water Infrastructure Development Fund is an initiative of the Northern Australia and Agricultural Competitiveness White Papers. Isaac welcomes eight new citizens Isaac’s newest Australian citizens were welcomed with an official ceremony in Moranbah.
Mayor Anne Baker welcomed eight new Australians living locally in the region. “Our new citizens have undertaken a journey much greater than most of us realise. “In some cases, and with a strong will to be Australians, the process has taken several years – and I congratulate them,” Mayor Baker said. “Welcoming new citizens with their family and friends is an honour. We are thrilled to help them embark on this exciting new journey in their lives.”
The new citizens are the Destura family – Edy, Michelle, Dylan and Khayene, Roldan Papio and Neri Pastolero from the Philippines, and Cynthia Voutier and Elysah Pitakia from the Solomon Islands. Michelle Destura, with her family, waited more than four years to become citizens since arriving in Australia in 2012. “I can’t express how I feel, it’s overwhelming, I’m just so happy,” she said. “It’s a privilege to become Australian citizens - for the safety of our children, security, mateship and simple living.”

Clermont Ladies Netball This season for ladies netball we have decided to do something different. We are hoping to run a split competition with two different grades: ‘competitive’ and ‘social’. The games will still be played on Tuesday nights and will run parallel with each other. We are taking individual and team nominations. To nominate a team: Message us with your team name, captain (inc contact number and email address), bib colour and your choice of whether you want to nominate for the social or competitive competition. To nominate as an individual: Message us with your name, contact number and email address, preferred playing positions, and which competition you would like to play in. PLEASE NOTE the split competition is entirely dependent on the number of nominations we receive. Neither grade can go ahead if we have less than four teams in each. In the event that we don’t reach the desired number of teams, we will consider other options on how to grade the competition (ie handicap points, incorporating grading rounds etc).

One Million Stars to End Violence Isaac Libraries will host star weaving work stations between August 2016 - July 2017. Everyone from individuals to community groups are invited to join the project and help weave stars. Help Isaac Libraries reach their goal of 10,000 stars
August 2016 - July 2017 One Million Stars to End Violence is a love and peace filled community project started by Brisbane artist Maryann Talia Pau and supported by Queensland State Government. The goal is to weave one million stars to display at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018.

Come and meet the Blue-Bots Blue-Bots have arrived at the Clermont Library and want playmates! Blue-Bots are Bluetooth floor robots that young children can learn sequencing, directionality, problemsolving, counting and estimation with by using simple command keys to make the Blue-Bots move about. Blue-Bot sessions are aimed at children aged from four years and are held on Thursdays from 3.15pm to 4pm until the start of Term 2. ‘4721 Star Challenge’ The Clermont community has made more than 2700 stars for the ‘One Million Stars to End Violence’ star weaving project.
As part of Youth Week celebrations - March 31 to April 9, Isaac Libraries will hold ‘Make a Scary Movie Trailer’ workshop where participants will plan, shoot and edit a 30 to 45 second scary film trailer. Clermont Library will hold the workshops on Tuesday 4 April and Thursday 6 April from 10am to 11.30am. These workshops are for children aged 10 years and up, and will be held in the first week of the School Holiday Activities Program. Easter-themed craft activities will be held on Tuesday 11 April and Thursday 13 April from 10am to 11am.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.
Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.
Rhymetime and Craft is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs.
Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.
Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years.
