Snap up tickets for Isaac's night of nights Working together to fight the stigma surrounding mental illness is at the forefront of Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker's charitable extravaganza.

Mayor Baker, who is Director of the Isaac Regional Charity Fund, said the region needs to talk about mental illness openly.

Don’t miss out on your chance to dine, dance and make a difference by raising funds and awareness for this good cause.

“More than three million Australians are living with depression or anxiety and every day eight are taking their own life nationally,” Mayor Baker said.

Master of ceremonies Nigel the Entertainer will lead the show stopping line-up.

“In Isaac, in our communities, we need to raise awareness surrounding mental illness.

“Meaningful conversations change the way our communities think and I believe we can do this better, together.”

To join the fight against mental illness, tickets for the 2017 Mayor’s Charity Ball are set to go on sale this Friday, September 15.

Mayor Baker said the elegant black tie affair will include a three-course dinner, live music, prizes, a charity auction and much more.

“This is Isaac’s night of nights and please join me in leading the conversation about mental illness in our communities,” she said.

Opening act - talented young vocalist Kate Lockyer will perform popular covers from across the ages.

Enjoy the cabaret vocal stylings of Bek Andrews during dinner.

Headline act Mezzanine will perform chart toppers across the eras late into the night.

Council celebrates 325 years of loyalty and dedication to Isaac communities A group of men and women, who between them share 325 years of dedicated service towards building a better Isaac, have been honoured in a ceremony at Nebo Showground Undercover Arena on Thursday September 14.

Isaac Regional Council paid tribute to 11 of its long standing and valued staff members during a ceremony at Nebo Showground Undercover Arena.

Ms Jeffs was instrumental in helping to start two of the Isaac’s important cornerstones – Carmila and St Lawrence libraries.

CEO Gary Stevenson PSM said the most valuable asset for Council is its people.

“I enjoy working at Council because of the friendly customers who visit the library and the library staff I work with,” she said.

“This group helped lay the foundations of what Council is today,” he said.

“In doing this, they have spent a lot of time away from family and friends. Their tireless commitment, loyalty, and dedication is valued.

“They have set the standard that we can all embrace as a team. They are part of the heartbeat of our communities.”

Construction Resources Coordinator Ross Sorensen of Clermont said he was honoured to receive recognition of 40 years of dedicated service.

Mr Sorensen started his local government career in 1974 as a labourer and worked in various positions over the past four decades.

“I’m so honoured to be recognised for my service, it has been an absolute privilege to work for a community I adore.”

Groundsman Christopher Latemore and Accounts Receivable Officer Robert Holmes achieved 35 years of service and Grader Operator Michael Munster was awarded 30 years of service.

Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator Julie Smith, Town Coordinator William Bruggemann, Coordinator Payroll/Benefits Sandra Rasmussen, Trainer and Assessor for Plant and Machinery Alan Horton and Purchasing/Stores Officer Kevin Elliott received appreciations of 25 years of service.

“The one thing I love the most about working with Council is the people I work with,” he said.

While Truck Operator Robert Omodei was unable to attend, he was also acknowledged for his 25 years of service on the day.

“I have learnt so much over the years and I’ve enjoyed helping people from all walks of life.

Mr Stevenson said all of Council’s long serving employees are the epitome of dedication.

“Working at Council doesn’t feel like work at all when you work with good people.”

Re-register your mate and save Renewal notices to take advantage of Council’s early bird discount on dog registration will hit letterboxes soon.

To receive a generous 50% fee reduction, dog owners are encouraged to renew registrations during September - October 13.

Dog owners need to be responsible and make sure their dogs are registered, micro-chipped, properly fenced and cared for.

Unregistered dogs and first-time registrations will not receive a renewal notice and do not qualify for a discount.

Council advises if unregistered dogs are impounded, their owners will pay and impoundment fee and registration fee before their dog is released home.

Snip, snip session raises more than $10,000 for mental health initiatives in Isaac An arena used for rough and tough bull riding was transformed into a makeshift hair salon for a bunch of charitable employees willing to lose their locks.

Eleven Isaac Regional Council employees, led

by CEO Gary Stevenson PSM, raised more than $10,000 at the Nebo Undercover Arena on Thursday, September 14.

Mr Stevenson, who had part of his head shaved by Mayor Anne Baker, said the inaugural Great Isaac Charity Shave is about bringing the issues of mental illness into the open.

“We may have transformed hairstyles, but we are transforming the way we approach mental health,” he said.

“We can all create a culture where people feel confident in seeking help. These conversations will make a real difference to staff going through a tough time.”

Former State of Origin great Shane Webcke was also on hand to help raise money with Council employees.

“All proceeds are going to mental health initiatives in our communities through the Isaac Regional Charity Fund,” she said. “Through your generous support and the volunteers prepared to lose their locks, we have raised more than $10,000.”

The shave was also in conjunction with the national awareness event, R U OK? Day. Meanwhile, tickets are on sale for the 2017 Mayor’s Charity Ball which proudly supports mental health initiatives in Isaac. Controlled Hazard Reduction Burn Clermont update - change of date The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Clermont (QFES) are planning to undertake a hazard reduction control burn in the bushland at the rear of Clermont State Primary School on:

Saturday September 23 9am to 12pm (weather permitting) Properties on the following streets may be impacted by this activity: •

Hetherington Street, Carina Crescent, Davis Court, Francis Street, Lavarack Street and McDonald Flat Road

Council also advises residents to make preparations for possible smoke hazards and related health impacts.

It is recommend that residents take the following steps: • • • • • • • •

Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage Remove washing from clotheslines Ensure pets have a protected area and ample water Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on Sightseers must keep away from the controlled burn area for their own safety If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice

A controlled hazard reduction burn off is the best way to reduce the risk of an uncontrolled fire impacting our community. Council and QFES apologises for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation during this process.

Residents are encouraged to only call 000 if the situation is an emergency or if the situation is life threatening.

Clermont State Primary School Verse speaking success at Emerald Eisteddfod Verse Speaking is an important part of the English curriculum at Clermont State School. We use this opportunity each year to further develop our students’ oral language skills and vocabulary as well as to provide an opportunity for them to have fun with words as we develop their team work and performance skills.

It also teaches our children to be more physically and imaginatively involved in speaking and has benefits in learning to open the voice more, understanding breathe control and how to energize the organs of articulation.

The Clermont State School verse speaking groups competed against other schools in the Central Highlands at the Emerald Eisteddfod. Our 3 groups all performed admirably on the day, doing us proud and coming away with a place.

Their months of hard work and commitment paid off as they took to the stage as confident performers.

Our Intermediate Group, coached by Ms Goodwin and Mrs Keene performed "Supply Teacher" and "The Arm Pit of Doom" with much expression and were champions in this section taking home 1st place and the trophy out of 8 competitors.

And finally, our Senior Group, coached by Miss Smith and Mrs Archibald performed “Monster in the Garden" and "I Was Late For School" with much professionalism and took home 2nd place in this section of 6 entries.

Our Junior Group coached by Miss Beere and Mrs Mohr, performed "The Bullfrog Song" and "My Favourite Things" beautifully and even with a little mishap in the middle of the first piece they redeemed themselves to take home a Highly Commended placing out of 12 entrants.

A big thank you to our Head of Curriculum, Ms Goodwin who co-ordinates and drives this program in our school each year. She was very pleased to be bringing home the Intermediate trophy once again, to take pride of place in our trophy cabinet.

It was also great to see our only solo entrant, Alex Otto also get 2nd place in her section.

Retiring employee honoured for 43 years' service A man who has given most of his life serving Isaac communities has retired after 43 years of service.

Isaac Regional Council’s Bill Bruggemann, Division 6 Councillor Lyn Jones, Ray Scharf, Mayor Anne Baker and CEO Gary Stevenson PSM.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker and CEO Gary Stevenson PSM paid tribute to Ray Scharf during an intimate gathering in Clermont recently.

Working as a labourer and handy man, Mr Scharf said helping build Isaac through his work in construction and repair is among his proudest moments in his Council career.

“Being part of moving the region forward and seeing all the buildings and facilities that I have helped build and maintain is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life,” Mr Scharf said.

“We wish Ray all the best in his next chapter, we will miss his loyalty and dedication over the years.”

TerraCom - trucking of coal from Blair Athol Mine TerraCom is focussed on rehabilitating the Blair Athol Coal Mine and whilst doing so will mine the remaining economical reserves. The process of fully rehabilitating and closing the mine is envisaged to take 8-9 years.

TerraCom has taken onboard the recommendations of the Isaac Regional Council with regard to the safest most practical haul route and other recommendations from special interest groups.

TerraCom has successfully restarted the mine and is currently producing coal. The workforce at the mine will live in Clermont and some workers that had left town chasing work in the down-turn are now working at Blair Athol and are at home with their families.

Whilst the haul route does not pass through any townships, local communities are requested to contact TerraCom (admin@terracomresources.com) if a community event is planned, that the hauling may impact and arrangements will be considered that minimise disruption to such community events.

A company spokesperson stated, “We were unable to reach a feasible arrangement to load and rail coal via a neighbouring mine and the plan is to re-instate a nearby length of rail line into a siding which will take 4-6 months.”

TerraCom are completing the necessary studies and monitoring required by the Local and State Governments. Efforts are focussed on the rail siding project as well as any other options that enable getting the coal to port facilities via existing rail infrastructure.

TerraCom has been working with rail providers on this rail option since June and is focussed on this project, aiming where possible to compress the construction and approval schedule.

The TerraCom spokesperson closed by stating, “TerraCom is proud of its efforts to restart the mine and acknowledges the work and assistance of all involved. The target is to fully rehabilitate the site using local people and services wherever appropriate and commercially feasible. It is unfortunate that the first Coal has to be hauled by truck, but this is an interim measure and for the majority of the life of this project coal will be transported from site using rail infrastructure”.

In the interim period, TerraCom will truck coal to the nearest train load-out facility prepared to operationally and commercially receive BA coal and rail it through to port.

An estimated 5 truck paths per hour will be needed.

Yoga A class for everyone! For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

MetaPWR MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power.

All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles.

Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn.

The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Metafit This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results!

It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando,

Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
