Plan to stay safe this disaster season Isaac Regional Council is urging residents to check their 'WHAT-IF' plan leading into disaster season.

Tropical Cyclone Debbie reminded us that extreme weather in Queensland is not an 'if' but a 'when', and planning ahead could save lives.

"Visit Get Ready Queensland’s website today https://getready.qld.gov.au for further ideas to assist you in being disaster ready.

Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Mayor Anne Baker said Queensland is at increased risk of natural disasters during November to April.

"As a community, if we each do a little, we all accomplish a lot. The more prepared we are, the faster we'll bounce back afterwards."

"Debbie taught us that natural disasters don’t discriminate when it comes to when and where they strike.

In the event of a disaster, visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for weather updates, contact the State Emergency Service (SES) on 132 500 for flood and storm assistance, and dial triple zero (000) for life-threatening emergencies.

“Get Ready Queensland Week prompts us to check our gardens are tidy, clean gutters and make sure insurances are up to date.

“Now is the time to prepare a household emergency plan and put together your evacuation and emergency kit.

Council opens career pathways through 2018 traineeship intake Isaac Regional Council has announced a new intake of trainees across the region who will start their career with Council in January 2018.

“This funding will provide additional personnel to support our communities; an important boost as we head into the disaster season,” he said.

“Council is committed to supporting genuine career pathways and employment opportunities.

“These positions combine hands-on work experience with a nationally recognised qualification.

“Each opportunity ranges between one to two years in duration, with positions available in administration, information digital media technology, land and conservation management, regulatory services, water and sewerage and libraries".

Applications close Sunday October 22, residents can view position descriptions and application instructions at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/employment.

Applications opened this week with eight positions available across the towns of Moranbah, Clermont, Middlemount and Dysart.

CEO Gary Stevenson said $87,500 from the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders For Work First Start and Community Recovery Programs have provided Council with a significant subsidy to boost their intake of trainees.

Council offers a range of career and employment opportunities for school leavers, professionals, tradespeople at family friendly locations throughout the region.

Heritage Day attracted largest attendance in several years contributed by Andy Plunkett Good weather and the largest attendance by visitors in some years witnessed a very successful Heritage Day held at the Capella Pioneer Village recently.

There were many families attending from Clermont and surrounding districts. A number of volunteers from the region were also involved in the operational display of vintage machinery and blacksmithing.

The Clermont Men’s Shed group attended in support of the Heritage Day and used the opportunity to promote their ethos and their developing facility located in the former Clermont Powerhouse.

To all from Clermont and districts further north your attendance and participation was appreciated by the committee of the Capella Pioneer Village.

Public Notices Clermont Hardcourts - Works for Queensland - Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program Isaac Regional Council advises the Clermont community that construction on the Clermont Hardcourts Work for Queensland - Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program has commenced on:

Thursday September 28 to Thursday November 30 6am to 6pm - Weather permitting

1080 Wild Dog and Feral Pig Baiting Program 2017 Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that the baiting program for 2017 is scheduled as per the dates set out below. Please Note: Baiting will only be conducted during the below periods.

Monday October 16 to Friday November 10 For this round of 1080 baiting, Council will strictly be delivering the following service provision: •

Wild Dog baits will be rolled.

•

Feral Pig baits will be injected.

During this construction period temporary fencing will be erected around the tennis, netball and basketball courts. There will be no public access to the construction site during this period, access will be restricted to contractors only.

‘Doggone’ factory baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date.

Council and the contractors are mindful of residents needs and has programmed activities to minimise potential impacts and thanks the community for their cooperation during this construction period.

The Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program has been funded by the Queensland Government's Works for Queensland program.

Temporary partial closure of Centenary Park, Clermont Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents that Centenary Park will be partially closed from: Friday October 13 The temporary closure is due to a roost of 6,000 little red flying foxes located in the trees on the south bank of Hoods Lagoon (corner of Capella and Lime Streets).

Little red flying foxes naturally migrate through our region from August to January and are known to establish temporary camps in residential areas.

Council advises residents not to disturb or attempt self-dispersal of flying foxes. Residents are reminded that it is against the law to harm or disturb a flying fox roost.

Council’s website contains answers to common questions around flying foxes at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/flying-foxes.

If you require further information please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).

Council will continue to monitor the roost and will provide the community with updates should there be any changes.

Historic Pasture Seed Grader donated to Capella Pioneer Village contributed by Andy Plunkett John Miles who was the CSIRO principal Research Officer for the introduction of Tropical Pasture Grasses in Australia was the original owner.

In 1957 John drew "Kilmalcom" in the Kilcummin Station ballot. John used the grader to further his passion for the development of pasture grasses.

In 1977, Len Nicholas of "Solferino" purchased the grader at the "Kilmalcom" clearing sale.

Colleen Nicholas recently donated this historic pasture seed grader to the Capella Pioneer Village where Reg Garside undertook a full restoration of the grader to working order.

The pasture seed grader was recently displayed at the Capella Pioneer Village Heritage Day.

Happy Grandparents Day! Grandparents will be special guests at Storytime today as we celebrate Grandparents Day. We all know how special grandparents are and they love spending time with their grandchildren, watching them grow and teaching them many things.

Teddy bears invited to sleepover Sleepovers are fun. To celebrate Children’s Week, Isaac Libraries invites teddy bears to a sleepover and picnic.

Clermont Library will hold its Teddy Bear Sleepover on Thursday, October 26 followed by a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Storytime on Friday, October 27.

If you would like your child’s teddy bear to participate, drop it off at the library on Thursday, October 26 between 9am and 4pm. The library staff promise to look after their special guests and make sure they don’t get homesick. Teddy bears will go home with pictures and an exciting story of their sleepover.

Children’s Week will be held from October 21-29 and is a national celebration of children’s rights, talents and citizenship.

It’s Flying Fox Season Do you know what to do?

Little red flying foxes naturally migrate through our region from August to January • and are known to establish temporary camps • in residential areas. It’s important we know what to do as a community and as individuals to help manage flying fox migrations safely.

1. Never disturb a flying fox - it makes the situation worse

•

Do not disturb flying foxes resting during the day. Day time harassment distresses the flying foxes and weakens them. This effects their ability to migrate, actually prolonging their stay. It’s in everyone’s best interest to keep flying foxes rested and minimise noise.

Minimise impact to you and your family Keep children away ‘do not touch’ Provide shelter for your pets and horses at night. If your dog or cat eats or bites a dead or live flying fox, take them directly to the vet.

To avoid flying fox droppings, bring your washing in at night and park your car underneath shelter.

If you notice anyone disturbing the flying foxes during the day, contact Council.

In the unlikely event you are scratched or bitten by a flying fox seek medical attention immediately.

2. They are in my yard or around town If you have flying foxes roosting in your trees or you see them foraging or roosting in town, contact Council immediately and our Environmental Team will investigate.

3. What’s all the fuss about?

Little red flying foxes are a protected species.

Flying foxes are vital pollinators for our native flora. Without flying foxes our bushland would be vastly different.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

MetaPWR MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power.

All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles.

Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn.

The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Metafit

Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.

We shoot on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. Arrive at range at 9.30am and commence shooting at 10am. You can also find us on Facebook @SSAA Clermont Branch Inc. A Firearms Safety Course will be held on Sunday October 22 commencing at 8am.

If you wish to do the course there is a $25 non-refundable deposit, which will be deducted from the cost of the course when you attend.
