Mini tech whizzes to converge at Dysart Library Coding and robotics has become as easy as A, B, C for a network of children ahead of logging into the ultimate robotics challenge in Isaac.

Brothers Henry and William Westcott are keen for the Isaac Libraries Tech Fest at Dysart Library on Saturday, October 21.

More than 40 children will converge at Dysart Library for the Isaac Libraries Tech Fest on Saturday, October 21.

“The Isaac Libraries Tech Fest will give children an advantage in the digital age and will have some of the world’s most sought-after skills.”

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said over the past 10 weeks children as young as nine has taken part in the Lego Robotics Program.

Isaac Libraries has had a special robotic guest on loan from the State Library of Queensland.

“Children from Moranbah, Clermont, Nebo, Glenden, Dysart and Middlemount will take part in the Tech Fest,” Mayor Baker said.

“Operating robots requires skills in science, technology, engineering and maths, otherwise known as STEM. “It’s estimated that 75 per cent of the fastest growing occupations require STEM-related skills and knowledge.

The NAO robot will visit schools in Isaac to promote robotics and coding workshops at the library.

NAO is a character made up of a multitude of sensors, motors and software piloted by a made-tomeasure operating system: NAOqi OS. The robot has a range of senses for natural interaction including moving, feeling, hearing and speaking, seeing, connecting and thinking.

Division 2 Councillor Nick Wheeler said Dysart is excited to hold the second robotics Tech Fest.

“We are proud to see our grassroots come together to learn, grow and prepare for their bright futures in an evolving business world,” Cr Wheeler said.

“Council wishes all participants and volunteers the best for the October 21 event.”

The Queensland Government, through State Library of Queensland, contributes funding to Isaac Regional Council to deliver library services to the public.

Where's Isaac jobs in this picture, Adani?

Mayor of Queensland's largest mining region Anne Baker has questioned Adani on where it stands on creating local jobs for local workers in Isaac.

It comes after Adani announced today it would split 2200 jobs into FIFO positions across North Queensland.

Mayor Baker said it is good news for Townsville and Rockhampton but the question is when will Isaac see what the local content looks like?

“Isaac is the host region to this major project and will bare all the impacts of Adani’s Carmichael Mine,” Mayor Baker said.

“As the rubber is about to hit the road with this project, we want to understand, we want to see how the Strong and Sustainable Resource Bill which was passed in Queensland Parliament in August will protect our established communities.

“What’s in this major project for our local communities, our local workers, our local businesses and our people?

“The question is simple - will workers be provided the opportunity to live and work in our region?”

Spoken work trumps at Bush Poet's Smoko A bronze drover, the spoken word and exultant hearty feed became the centrepieces of the Bush Poet's Smoko last weekend.

Emcee Dan Lockyer More than 70 people gathered at Nebo Museum as it came alive with history, tall tales and a swag of poetry on Sunday, October 8.

Isaac Regional Council Deputy Mayor Geoff Bethel, who officially opened the event, said the historic town celebrated 16 years of spinning bush yarns.

“Visitors were treated to an array of poetry and songs by performers of all ages,” Cr Bethel said.

“As well as Nebo locals, poets came from Mackay, Moranbah and Clermont to share their love of the spoken word.”

Poet Graeme Ware Emcee Dan Lockyer kept the program running smoothly and the highlight was seeing the children and adult performers from Moranbah Arts dressed in period costume.

Singer Kate Lockyer, sang while the audience tucked into a delicious barbecue catered by the QCWA’s Nebo Sarina Range branch.

People also enjoyed speaking with local artist Kay Paton who was in attendance with a display of her beautiful bronze sculptures.

1080 Wild Dog and Feral Pig Baiting Program 2017 Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that the baiting program for 2017 is scheduled as per the dates set out below. Please Note: Baiting will only be conducted during the below periods.

Monday October 16 to Friday November 10 For this round of 1080 baiting, Council will strictly be delivering the following service provision: •

Wild Dog baits will be rolled.

•

Feral Pig baits will be injected.

During this construction period temporary fencing will be erected around the tennis, netball and basketball courts. There will be no public access to the construction site during this period, access will be restricted to contractors only.

‘Doggone’ factory baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date.

Council and the contractors are mindful of residents needs and has programmed activities to minimise potential impacts and thanks the community for their cooperation during this construction period.

The Regional Hardcourt Renewal/Repair Program has been funded by the Queensland Government's Works for Queensland program.

Flying fox roost - Centenary Park, Clermont Isaac Regional Council is investigating options with ecology experts to manage the flying fox roost in Centenary Park, Clermont.

The roost of around 6,000 little red flying foxes are away from residential backyards, in the trees on the south bank of Hoods Lagoon (corner of Capella and Lime Streets).

Council will continue to monitor the flying fox roost and will provide the community with updates once a course of action is established.

Little red flying foxes naturally migrate through our region from August to January and are known to establish temporary camps in residential areas.

Council advises residents not to disturb or attempt self-dispersal of flying foxes. Residents are reminded that it is against the law to harm or disturb a flying fox roost.

We know it can sometimes be a challenge to get children to eat their vegies – perhaps our little Storytime friends will share their ideas on how to make vegies tasty to eat.

Project Gutenberg Top 100 Ebooks list has many classics, including Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

The ebooks can be read online or downloaded onto a device such as a Kindle or Ipad.

Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions.

They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children.

Rhymetime and Craft This is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs.

Baby Bounce Come along on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years.

Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

Storytime and Craft Time See you at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to prep age.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

MetaPWR MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power.

All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles.

Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn.

The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat.

Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using highintensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance.

An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness.

Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.

A Firearms Safety Course will be held on Sunday October 22 commencing at 8am.

If you wish to do the course there is a $25 non-refundable deposit, which will be deducted from the cost of the course when you attend.
