Veteran Councillor will leave lasting legacy Isaac Regional Councillor and Clermont cattle producer Dale Appleton has resigned from Council after nearly a decade of service. After more than eight years on Council, Cr Appleton said it’s been an honour to serve Isaac’s rural and remote communities. “My proudest moment with Council is seeing 28 kilometres of bitumen go on the Clermont-Alpha Road in a major win for our communities.” “I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built with fellow Councillors and staff over the years. “But the biggest thing I want to say is the respect I have for the Mayor, for putting faith in me to be not just a Councillor but Deputy Mayor.
A fourth generation Appleton in the Clermont district, Dale is a well-known, loved and respected Clermont community member. Cr Appleton decided to leave to focus on his expanding family organic beef business across seven properties Bulliwallah, Yarmina, Beelarong, Craven, Islay Plains, Tango, and Star Downs.
“I never thought I could run a meeting or do public speaking, but she gave me the opportunities and the confidence.” “I have the highest regard for Anne and I still do, she is a great leader and she’s genuine.” Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said Cr Appleton’s last day will be a sad day for Council and Isaac communities.
The Appleton family run up to 40,000 head of cattle on around 195,000 hectares.
“I have enormous respect for Dale and he leaves behind a lasting legacy and big boots to fill.
Finishing school in grade 9, Dale began his grazing career in his early twenties with a 526 hectare property bought from his uncle.
“What has always struck me about Dale is his dedication to rural and remote communities, strong business sense, and salt-of-the-earth approach to life.
“That’s the great thing you can do in this life, you can start small and keep expanding. There are great opportunities in the bush, you just have to make it work,” Cr Appleton said.
“He is a humble community leader, a tireless worker and has been a valuable asset to the Council team.”
“I’ve always believed ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Back then his thoughts were far from politics. It wasn’t until he was much older, his parents became ill and he wanted to be closer to town that he thought of throwing his hat in the ring and giving back to his community.
“We will greatly miss him at the table, he has worked incredibly hard on behalf of his division for better rural roads and livability.” Elected as Division 1 Councillor on May 14, 2009, Cr Appleton was Deputy Mayor from 2012 to 2016 and has represented the region as a member of AgForce, Mistake Creek Progress Association, and the Clermont Saleyards Committee. Cr Appleton’s resignation is effective from September 30, with a by-election to be held within the following 12 weeks. Isaac... helping to energise the world

Re-register your mate and save Renewal notices to take advantage of Council’s early bird discount on dog registration will hit letterboxes from September 11. To receive a generous 50% fee reduction, dog owners are encouraged to renew registrations during September 11 October 13. Dog owners need to be responsible and make sure their dogs are registered, micro-chipped, properly fenced and cared for. Unregistered dogs and first-time registrations will not receive a renewal notice and do not qualify for a discount. Events honouring the valuable contributions of our senior residents were hosted in seven Isaac communities, August 18 - 29.
“From lucky draw prizes, to games, raffles and guest speakers, attendees were treated to hours of fun, food and friendship.
“I hope that all attendees enjoyed their special day and felt genuine appreciation from their communities,” Mayor Baker said.
Mayor Anne Baker said the week was a chance for all residents to recognise Isaac’s ‘young at heart’ and celebrate all they have done for our region.
“Seniors Week is a real opportunity to build relationships between generations.
Isaac Regional Council hosted Seniors Week events in conjunction with local community groups and associations.
“The theme for Seniors Week this year was A Queensland for All Ages and there really was something for everyone,” she said.
“I love seeing students in Clermont volunteering to serve lunch to their seniors, and Nebo’s guitar group providing entertainment; what a great way to foster these connections.

Ratepayers who have encountered delays with the postal service in their area can register their email address with Council for an additional rates notice to be issued electronically. If you have recently moved or changed your contact details, please check that you have informed Council to ensure delivery of rates notices on time. Ratepayers who make prompt payment on or before Tuesday, October 10 will receive a 10 per cent discount on general rates. If you have not received your rates notice by Monday, September 18 please contact Council. The inner workings of a child’s imagination was in overdrive during celebrations themed Escape to Everywhere between August 19-26.
“Isaac Libraries are spaces where our children and our families can practice lifelong learning in a fun and safe environment.”
Mayor Anne Baker said children at libraries in Middlemount, Dysart, Moranbah, Nebo, Glenden, Carmila, Clermont and St Lawrence discovered new stories.
Escape to Everywhere took children on an adventure, exploring new stories and sharing the amazing shortlisted CBCA Children’s Books of the Year.
“What a wonderful way for children to delve into the delightful world of books,” Mayor Baker said.
The Queensland Government, through State Library of Queensland, contributes funding to Isaac Regional Council to deliver library services to the public.

A proud moment for Isaac's newest Aussies Two new proud citizens were flanked by family and friends in an intimate citizenship Ceremony in Clermont today. Hailing from India and the United Kingdom, Isaac’s newest Aussies pledged their loyalty to Australia and its people. Spring into gardening Spring has arrived and it’s a great time to get out into the garden. You may have noticed the grevilleas and bottlebrush trees in bloom around Clermont Library. The flowers have attracted many species of birds, serenading staff and patrons with their happy chirps. Spring into Gardening is the theme of one book display currently at the library so if you want some gardening tips or inspiration, come and have a look at the gardening books. If you want to know what plant species are growing around the library, ask our friendly staff.

Spotlight on Author – Karen Rose Karen Rose is an American romantic suspense novelist whose books have been translated into more than 20 languages. TRX Suspension Training Every Suspension Training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants. THUMP boxing for fitness 1 hour free for members. Beginners L1 run Wednesday nights 6pm. A pair of inners to be worn under gloves can be purchased for $5.00 before class. Boxing equipment provided for both classes. $16.50 per class, free for gym members. For ages 5 and up to 90 or more. You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. This class is suitable for pregnant women, screening will be conducted prior to participation.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Open gym This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.
MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Metafit This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.

Disability Action Week 2017 Isaac Libraries will be celebrating Disability Action Week with special Story Time Sessions. Activities are designed to give children an insight into what it might be like living with a disability. They will also give parents and caregivers an opportunity to begin discussions with their children about disability awareness and inclusiveness. Children will explore braille text books, listen to audio stories and take part in sensory activities which might make every day tasks a little bit harder.
