Hello, I’m Colleen Nicholas, long-time Clermont local, and during June/July I’ll be walking the 1000km Bibbulmun Track between Perth and Albany in Western Australia, to raise much needs funds for Cancer Council Qld on their mission to defeat cancer.
For me this journey of many thousands of steps, began last year when I completed the 916km Camino de Santiago Trail over the Pyrenees Mountains in Europe between France and Spain. Having reached Finisterre, Spain safely and successfully, I thought to myself ‘I need to do this in Australia’, followed by ‘I want to do it for my 60th birthday and while at it, why not add a few extra kilometres to do 1000kms’. Ultimately I want to do this because I can! This final thought made me realise that many aren’t given the opportunity to have this sort of experience because of illness and disease. So Colleen’s Walk for Cancer came into being. I am completing the Bibbulmun Track alone and unassisted. During the lead up of starting off on this adventure I will post food and supplies to myself along the track to enable me to replenish my stores of electrolytes, home dried food and other necessities.
Everything I need will be packed up snug in my backpack including food, water, cooking equipment, camping gear, medical supplies and my GPS Tracing device, so friends and family know that I’m safe and if anything goes a little off track I can send something a little more definite than a smoke signal! This disease has touched many in our local community including members of my own family and I am dedicated to helping support the Cancer Council. Every step, no matter how small, is a step forward. New breeding laws to affect Isaac dog owners Isaac Regional Council is urging all Isaac dog owners to be aware of new legislation that came into effect from Friday 26 May 2017.
“The Supply Number is attached to the breeder, not the dogs, so once you have a number it can be used across any number of litters.
From this date, any person giving away, selling, supplying or advertising dogs will be required to have a Supply Number identifying the registered breeder of the dogs.
“If your dog has an unplanned litter and you choose not to keep the pups, you will still need a Supply Number.
Mayor Anne Baker said state government is introducing the new laws to promote responsible dog breeding.
“Primary producers that breed working dogs do not have to register as breeders as long as they supply all of the dogs they breed to other primary producers as working dogs,” said Mayor Baker.
“The legislation applies only to dogs born on or after 26 May,” she said.

“Dog breeders will need to apply for a Supply Number through the Queensland Dog Breeder Register, and will need to provide this number when giving away or advertising dogs.

A familiarisation/training day for those interested in operational steam engines, hot bulb oil engines plus a wool press will be held at the Capella Pioneer Village on Saturday June 10. The vertical boilered Pratchitt steam engine powered a woolshed from the mid 1890s. The Austral hot bulb oil engine, made in 1919, powered the Abor Downs woolshed. The Ferrier wool press, built in 1911 was used in the Gordon Downs woolshed.

The Capella Pioneer Village, which is a charity registered volunteer managed museum, has an ongoing goal to encourage the next generations to learn how to safely maintain and operate various forms of vintage machinery, so as to keep those skills alive. 150 Years of Schooling contributed by Clermont State High School P & C Association Clermont State High School and Clermont State School will be commemorating 150 years of schooling in the Clermont area as well as a reunion of past and present students on the weekend commencing Friday August 18 and concluding on Sunday August 20. Below is the schedule of events proposed for the weekend: •
Open day with tours of the schools available from 9am12midday at both Clermont State High School and Clermont State School Friday August 18

Opening of time capsule at 2pm with refreshments Friday August 18

Morning tea at the museum commencing at 10am Saturday August 19

Commemorative dinner with arrival at 6pm for a 6.30pm start Saturday August 19. Tickets available from the high school costing $40 (prepayment required) with a bar operating and music throughout the evening

Street parade commencing at 10am Sunday August 20 making their way along Capella Street to Centenary Park followed by brunch/picnic at 11am
Laura Murphy, Librarian at the high school is looking for memorabilia/ stories for the display she is doing in the library. If you have anything regarding your time in our area and would like to donate it for the weekend, it will be catalogued with your details and returned at the end of the commemoration. It can be sent to the High School at 1 Kitchener Street, Clermont. Laura is also putting together a commemorative USB of all memorabilia received. Further details to follow.

A Star Student
contributed by Clermont Library Councillor Lyn Jones recently popped into the Clermont Library for a brief visit and had a lesson in making a woven star from local resident, Terry Widt. Terry has been a keen supporter of the ‘One Million Stars to End Violence’, star weaving project. The Clermont Library has put out the ‘4721 Star Challenge’ to our community to make 4721 stars to match our postcode. Clermont’s tally has reached 4200 stars. Well the countdown is on. Apparently as I looked at the roster, I only have a handful of shifts left before going on holidays and then transferring with the family to the Isa. The locals here of course have been very helpful telling me how bad the Isa is and how I’ll have my hands full and so on. Some have even regaled me with their tales of woe and how they played up and got tossed out of the hotels up there. Well I imagine this is just normal, you play up, you get tossed out probably the same everywhere. Anyway many have offered their collective well wishes for the journey. I just remind everyone we are having a farewell at the Commercial Hotel Beer Garden on Sunday June 18 commencing around 2pm with nibblies and a BBQ dinner available later on in the night catered by hotel staff. It would be great to see many of the friends our family has made over the last dozen years here, to come along and share a few tales. Now onto the news for the last couple of weeks. We had a bloke play up in the Commercial one night when he wanted to argue with staff and was asked to leave over a Keno ticket. He refused and police were called. He continued his belligerence with police and was arrested but put on a turn and the lone police officer was assisted by other patrons
in the bar that were also fed up with the idiot. I thank those individuals that assisted wholeheartedly and am glad of the outcome.
Often times we do not get the information as communications staff do not pass the work on until someone is working.
When I arrived old mate was still arguing the toss getting in the police cage.
Finally the hoons. Some of them have recently been getting tickets for their behaviour, losing their license and so on. This will continue.
That was shortly fixed and old mate was locked up for a while. He has since made a complaint of course, because of the way he was treated still claiming his innocence! On Sunday just before the show had calls from some concerned citizens regarding a bloke driving around at the showgrounds full of grog looking for work. Calls to police resulted in old mate getting stung for driving whilst under the influence, nearly five times the limit. He complained about it of course because he was trying to find work and now will not get any because of no license. I am not certain how that is my fault? Had a few calls recently about noisy parties. On some of those calls which are the early hours of the morning I have noticed people have been putting up with the noise for hours. Please ring when the noise is too loud for you, not when you get frustrated and a head of steam up. That way we can get there more than likely when we are working which is a lot easier than getting called out.
Hoons just a word of warning when we seize your car and put it before the judge to get it confiscated altogether do not go crying to mummy and daddy and tell them it is everyone elses fault. It is your fault pure and simple. If you are driving mummy and daddys car, we seize it, no ifs or buts, that’s the law. So continue hooning and you will get into a world of hurt. Anyway this is my last FUZZBOOK and in that light I hope the next officer in charge of the division continues with letting the locals know what is going on. I hope I have seen everyone at the Show and that the events go off without a hitch. It has been a chore at times writing this column due to the complainers, especially when it was ‘Sarges Soapbox’, but on balance it was a pleasure. Goodbye for now and all the best. The Sarge.

Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents that the Sports Precinct Grandstand will undergo repairs and maintenance:

Monday 5 June to Friday 30 June During this time the grandstand seating will be closed and there will be no access to the commentator area without approval. Repairs will involve a major upgrade to grandstand seating and repairs to tower lights.

Story Time Adventure Book Program - creating memories The Story Time Adventure Book Program has proven to be popular in creating memories for young children and their families. Each week has a different theme and today’s theme is Wild Animal Adventures.
Ozobots are back! The Ozobots are back for another ‘visit’. Ozobots are small robots that can teach children basic programming and coding. Children can draw tracks using red, blue, green and black markers for the Ozobot to read and move about. STEM: Ozobot sessions will be held at the Clermont Library on Thursdays from 3.30 to 4pm until early July. The sessions are aimed at children aged from four years and bookings are essential.
Don’t worry if you are unable to attend Storytime one week as all rhyme sheets and craft/activities sheets will be available for the duration of the 10-week program.

Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Rhymetime and Craft This is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce Come along on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

TRX Suspension Training Every Suspension training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Open gym This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.
MetaPWR MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45mins whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
