Isaac Regional Charity Fund supports training to recognise and respond to domestic violence The Isaac Regional Charity Fund (IRCF) has partnered with Clermont Community Housing and Other Services Incorporated (CCHAOSI) and CQ University to deliver training to recognise and respond to domestic and family violence.
Isaac Regional Charity Fund Director and Mayor Anne Baker said violence against women is at epidemic proportions. “Devastatingly, over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of intimate partner violence,” she said. “One in three women has been a victim of violence at the hands of someone they know. “This accredited training will help people in our region to effectively recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence. “Each May, Queensland marks Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. “This training is our opportunity to send a clear message that violence of this sort will not be tolerated.” The nationally recognised Community Services Training will help participants: •
increase skills in responding to domestic violence
•
build on understanding and knowledge of domestic violence
•
enhance practice responses to domestic violence
The sessions, delivered by CQ University and the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research training professionals, will be held on May 16 -17 from 8.30am to 4.30pm at the Moranbah Community Centre. “The training is made possible through funds raised from the 2015 Mayor’s Charity Ball to help end domestic violence,” Mayor Baker said. “Fifty percent of the $39,946 raised was donated to White Ribbon with the remaining being used to support worthwhile initiatives such as this. This outstanding result would not have been possible without the support of our generous supporters and sponsors.” There is a cost of $30 for catering with enrolments closing Wednesday May 10. For more information contact CCHAOSI Secretary Barbara Stranks on 0418 512 990.

Art lovers in for textile treat in Isaac Quilters and art lovers alike are in for a textile treat this May.
Curator and well-known textile artist Brenda Gael Smith is thrilled to present her latest curatorial project ‘A Matter of Time’ to Isaac.
Mayor Anne Baker said Isaac is welcoming an international touring exhibition of thirty-two contemporary textile artworks.
“The 32 selected works showcase a diverse range of styles, techniques and materials in both abstract and representational form.
“A Matter of Time: exploring the fourth dimension in cloth is coming to the Moranbah Coalface Art Gallery in May and then to the Dysart Library Artspace in June.
“Sub-themes include the seasons, eternity, evolution, ageing, time travel and story telling. “The participating artists are from across the world including Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Canada.
“I’m looking forward to viewing this vibrant exhibition. While the artists have expressed their ideas about time in their own unique style, the artworks are presented in a unified format.” Curator and well-known textile artist Brenda Gael Smith said she was thrilled to present her latest curatorial project to Isaac. “The notion of time is intriguing and sometimes paradoxical. It is at once rigid and fluid, fleeting and interminable, tangible but elusive, and abundant yet scarce,” she said. “How the ‘fourth dimension’ of time is observed, manifested and experienced is at the heart of this exhibition.
“After it leaves the Isaac region, the exhibition is going to Birmingham’s Festival of Quilts in the United Kingdom and then to New Zealand’s National Quilt Symposium.” The exhibition is generously supported by Brother International Australia. Save the dates – A Matter of Time will be on display in the Moranbah Coalface Art Gallery May 2 to 30 and in Dysart Library Artspace from June 5 to 30. For more details visit the exhibition website www.amatteroftimetextiles.com or call Council’s 24/7 Customer Service Centre 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227) or visit Moranbah or Dysart libraries.
“Ninety-nine artists responded to the challenge to explore the fourth dimension in cloth and, together, submitted 104 entries.

Fuzzbook contributed by Sarge First of all let me put my hand up to a slightly embarrassing incident before anybody gets some wild story started about the actual event, which is but a mere shadow of any rumour that may now be perpetuating. On a bright sunny day, that is right it was not dark and stormy, I happened to roll back into another much smaller vehicle in the main street with my 4WD. Slight damage to one number plate was quickly repaired and everyone was on their merry way. No vehicles rolled over, no one was choppered out and there was not a black dog or a white ute to be found, sorry to disappoint everyone! Now onto the real news. The campdraft seemed to go very smoothly with very few issues, and from all accounts everyone had a good time, except of course the horses and cattle who weren’t allowed to sit still for a minute. Everyone give Cameron a pat on the back for a job well done. Although he aged a few years in a few days he did a stellar job, of course assisted by his many helpers and committee.
I hope BA goes as well and hopefully we will see the rodeo back on again soon. A break in at the old Graincorp depot saw some damage committed to stock stored in the sheds there. There was also damage done to a tractor with the total cost of the damage and repairs still being added up. Police located some forensic evidence that will help in the detection of the criminals responsible. Anybody with any information, no matter how little please put it through to the Clermont Police Station or report it to Police Link on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. A visit from Sergeant Troy Amos of the Mackay Liquor Enforcement Squad met with praise from him towards our local publicans and licensees alike. Predominantly here for the campdraft and other activities Troy took the opportunity to check compliance at all hotels and establishments. Troy will be making regular visits to the area and may drop in on events anyone is hosting such as fundraisers, football, rodeos and the like.
The recent Police patrolling of Theresa Creek Dam may become a regular event with the news a boat may be posted out this way. Clermont Police will undergo training in small boat handling operations to facilitate these patrols. Current Drink Navigating Legislation dictates that below .05% on the water also. If you are detected drink navigating you will lose your drivers license also for your car etc. So drink responsibly while fishing and water skiing and you will end up having a good time. The next crop of 18 year olds are hitting the hotels constantly. One thing I would suggest to parents is to monitor your kids even though they have apparently grown up. Some young ones are hitting the liquor quite hard especially at parties with many instances told to me of people passing out. Liquor will do immense damage to young bodies the telltale signs of which will come in later life or even earlier if regularly undertaken dangerous consumption is had. Okay everybody stay safe until next week and please be good to each other. The Sarge

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.
Each week is a new and exciting full body program. No week is the same offering a variety and challenges for any fitness level. It’s a fun 30 minutes, while working hard on those fitness goals. Pilates Pilates classes build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine. Pilates has a focus on the core which can basically be thought of as the ‘powerhouse’ of you body, but also includes the pelvic floor and lower back. It’s a great low impact class for all ages. Spots are limited so please contact us to get yours today. Open gym This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. HIIT - High-Intensity Interval Training This training technique commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by active recovery periods. This for of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolising fat at the same time. Boxing 4 Fitness This is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility and coordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.
Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45mins whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Metafit This is a 30mins bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
