Cherwell Creek Bridge replacement on track • Work on the Cherwell Creek Bridge upgrade is full steam ahead after Tropical Cyclone Debbie’s setback. • $6 million upgrade will raise the bridge deck, widen the bridge and upgrade road approaches, allowing the speed limit to be raised.
Roadwork activity has hit overdrive for one of this year’s biggest road projects for Isaac Regional Council, after some delays due to Tropical Cyclone Debbie. Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the Australian Government is contributing up to $2.75 million toward the replacement of the Cherwell Creek Bridge. “We are seeing major headway as final concrete pours are conducted. Most importantly for the community the new two-lane concrete bridge will be seven metres higher than the current bridge, and have a one-in-100 year flood immunity,” Mr Chester said. Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said Tropical Cyclone Debbie caused damage to some of the repair works but the contractor delivering the project is now driving ahead. “I am extremely proud of the progress made on this vital project, which will improve traffic flow for
motorists, road safety, and flood immunity,” Ms Landry said. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said precast bridge components are expected to be delivered shortly and are expected to be installed later this month. “The bridge is expected to be completed in late 2017,” Cr Baker said. The Cherwell Creek Bridge Replacement project was jointly funded with the Australian Government providing $2.75 million under the Bridges Renewal Programme on a 50:50 funding share arrangement with Isaac Regional Council. The National Broadband Network (NBN) is coming to Clermont contributed by Jessica Vine - Ace Digital From July 7, all existing Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) connections in Clermont will be able to access NBN’s Fibre to the Node (FTTN).
What is Fibre to the Node? FTTN utilises the existing copper line running to your premises from the node - (the green boxes you may have noticed popping up around Clermont) and then back to the exchange via optical fibre. Most Internet service providers (ISP) will automatically switch you over with no change to your current plan. We do suggest calling them and asking for a better deal once connected, as the current FTTN packages are quite competitive amongst providers and can save you lots compared to the ADSL plans. When choosing a provider look out for conditions such as, connection fees, contract terms, cancellation fees and speed packages.
What speeds can I get? When you connect to the FTTN, you will be offered ‘speed packs’ by service providers. Unfortunately just because you pay for the 100/40mbps boost doesn’t mean you will achieve that. There are a number of factors that can determine the speed you will receive. The biggest factor is the condition and distance the copper line is from home to the node. The only way to determine the speed you’ll get is once connected call your ISP and get them to do a line check. You certainly don’t want to be paying for speed that you’ll never achieve.

If your modem causes interference with the network, NBN may cut services to your premises.
•
Placement of modem - Interference from microwaves, TVs and mobile phones can all have an impact of the speed you get via Wi-Fi. Always connect via ethernet instead of Wi-Fi where possible.

Amount of devices connected to the internet in your home.

Colonial Daughter out now contributed by Heather Garside Heather Garside has recently edited and re-released two earlier novels, The Cornstalk and A Hidden Legacy, under the new titles of Colonial Daughter and Colonial Legacy. Colonial Daughter was inspired by Heather’s parents’ stories of their pioneering ancestors. All four sets of her great-grandparents were involved in the grazing and carrying industries in the Capella, Clermont and Banana areas in the late 19th century. Banana was a busy teamsters’ hub in those years and the setting came alive for Heather when she read the town’s centenary book.
In its former incarnation as The Cornstalk, Colonial Daughter was a finalist in the Booksellers’ Best Award for an historical romance published in the USA. Colonial Daughter is available from Clermont News and is also available as an ebook from Amazon, iBooks and Kobo. Colonial Legacy is presently available as an ebook from Amazon, iBooks, Kobo. It will be released in paperback later this month.

Public Notices Water meter reading underway Isaac Regional Council’s water meter reading program will commence throughout the region as part of the introduction of the two-part water tariff.
This great tool allows you to set email and SMS alerts so you are notified of water leaks and high consumption within days of occurrence.
Following a 12-month reprieve by Council, water consumption charges take effect from July 1, 2017. Ratepayers will not be charged for water consumption for usage between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017.
For the safety of Council’s water meter reading contractors, please ensure your animals are enclosed within your property.
The first water notice issued will be for the period July 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 and will be issued during January 2018. To help ensure the charging system is accurate, efficient and reliable a manual water meter read program will take place Monday to Friday between the hours from 7am to 5pm:

Ozobots are back!
Library program/event bookings
Ozobots are small robots that can teach children basic programming and coding aimed at children aged from 4 years. Bookings are essential.

Children can draw tracks using red, blue, green and black markers for the Ozobot to read and move about. Holiday fun at the library Clermont Library will be holding children’s holiday craft sessions during the June/July school holidays. These sessions are suitable for children aged from five years and bookings are essential as each session is limited to 15 participants. All craft sessions will be held from 10am to 11am.

STEM: Ozobot sessions will be held on Thursdays from 3.30pm to 4pm. Indigenous artist Lloyd Hornsby returns Indigenous artist, Lloyd Hornsby will return to Isaac next month to hold workshops during NAIDOC Week, which is also the second week of the school holidays. Previously held workshops in Isaac for both adults and children have been very popular as every participant takes home a piece of artwork.
Please note: Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times when visiting the library, including during organised programs. 4721 Star Challenge - we did it! Well done Clermont community for your enthusiasm in supporting this challenge. Not only have we reached 4721 stars but have a tally to date of 4815. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. Special mention to Terry Widt and Jenny Abell who have excelled with their star making skills and made several hundred each. If you have taken ribbon to make stars, please drop them into the library before the end of June.

Clermont’s Water Treatment Plant: Isaac Regional Council (IRC) is progressing the Clermont Sustainable Water Strategy with project team IRC’s Water and Wastewater Capital Works Project Manager Bruce Waghorn, Acting Director of Water and Wastewater Robin Hagen, AECOM Project Lead Engineer Craig Forsyth and AECOM Associate Director Pedro Mendiolea.
Project Update June 2017 Work is progressing on the Sustainable Water Strategy for Clermont. Council endorsed the award of the tender in February to AECOM Australia Pty Ltd to help produce a strategic framework to improve Clermont’s ageing water supply infrastructure.
Outcomes The study is about providing water security and supporting economic growth for Clermont. The feasibility study will have a focus on: •
evaluating the social, economic and environmental viability of potential new or augmented water infrastructure;
•
and inform investment decisions.
This will enable Council to make the most cost effective and strategic decisions and responses to water issues. This is essential to address existing limitations and risks, as well as permit potential growth.
The strategy will cater for the continued development in the region’s mining, pastoral and agricultural industries. Council is committed to completing the study by the end of 2017.
Funding This study is supported by funding from the Australian Government National Water Infrastructure Development Fund. Council will commit up to $225,000 that will be matched from the fund, to develop this essential report.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Open gym This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.
MetaPWR MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Metafit This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
